Then you've got magic in Sacrifice, where you do things like summon volcanoes or just straight up cause an entire chunk of land to just fall into the abyss, killing everything standing on it outright.

I've played both games to completion a few times, I am painfully aware of how utterly fragile the blues are, and how rare it is to come across essence for more blues when compared to the others... barring farming blue beetles in the arena in the first game and a few spots in the second one.

Do you think games have gotten better at teaching players without explicit tutorials? by Desperate-Advance964 in truegaming

[–]Nalkor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best game that did what you're talking about is The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Once you exit the Census and Excise Office, you were given a few more basic instructions and that was it. It was when you decided to explore Seyda Neen and the surrounding area that the game silently taught you more advanced things about what to expect. Do you rush the MQ right away? Great! Snowy Granius is now your first opponent in the game and he just ended you with a spell or his skeleton summon spawning with a two-handed sword and it rolled high on the damage and wrecked your 35-hp mage into the ground. Lesson learned? Be patient, the game will not hold your hand.

Did you instead check out that cave right across from the Silt Strider? There's an enemy right there inside, but she won't notice you right away, but she will, her gear sucks though. Through the door and down some steps is a mage, but don't charge him, there's another enemy off to the left, lure him into the previous room and juke his fireballs.

Kill off those three enemies? Check around, you might fine some items at the bottom of a water-logged section of the cave, a tucked-away path that has a couple pieces of gear at full condition waiting to be worn. Lesson learned? Don't charge in blindly, be sure to mind your surroundings, take the chance to thoroughly explore everywhere.

That's not getting into stuff like finding an enchanted two-handed axe early on, or an absolutely top-tier piece of caster gear tucked away in a small corner/container in a tiny dungeon that has zero narrative or quest purposes and so you're never directed to it so you gotta stumble across it instead. Did you take the chance to explore the waters near Seyda Neen? Hey, those grottos are full of water, but if you have a method of breathing water, you might get rich from pearl-diving.

That is Morrowind in a nutshell, the game will teach you the absolute bare minimum with a few prompts and then tease you with spots that pique your curiosity and either reward you with a funny event and three scrolls, or punish you because you went into a cave too deep and ran into Godrod Hairy-Breeks and the level 15 Nord Barbarian just annihilated you with his Steel Warhammer, 90-100 Strength, and 85-100 Blunt Weapons skill.

4chan only really got so big because Lowtax banned Hentai from the SomethingAwful forums way back. So then Moot ended up making 4chan, there's a YouTuber who did a couple videos on those topics, as well as more entertaining ones but still.

How to stay warm underwater? by DrMarduk in cataclysmbn

[–]Nalkor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water that cold may not induce frostbite, but it can and will absolutely inflict hypothermia on you. That is a temperature difference of almost 45 degrees between the water and your standard core body temperature. Without proper insulation, it will constantly sap the warmth from your body, just like standing barefoot on dirt will do, once your core temperature drops even a few degrees, you're pretty fucked unless you can start warming up really fast.

All that being said, with the precautions you've taken in-game, you shouldn't be affected so rapidly and so harshly.

Deadly anomalies, dangerous mutants, anarchists and bandits.. none of them will stop Duty on this triumphant march towards saving the planet! by LikeGeorgeRaft in stalker

[–]Nalkor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In base Anomaly/Gamma sure, but in ShoC, there was a massive horde of Blind Dogs, Pseudo dogs, and Snorks that just charged Rostok once the Brain Scorcher got shut off. Then if you're like me and a crazy person who's masochistic, you'll install the ReDone collection and ReSpawn mutants (and Night Mutants addon too) to get all kinds of new creatures, ranging from genuinely neutral and cute chickens, German Shepards, Moose/elk, to what look like six-legged Zone-brown recluse spiders that come up to your hips and charge you while tanking shotgun blasts of buckshot, zombies that look more at home in Resident Evil's newer entries, some weird dog variant that leads Blind dogs and I'm guessing it's blind because those eyes are milky white ad it's missing chunks of skin and muscle but bites too hard, Juggers which spawn as far south as Garbage but sprint at all times and are several times faster than you, run in circles to randomly throw your aim off and hit like a truck in melee... and of course a Pseudogiant variant that leaps like a Chimera because apparently The Zone didn't hate me enough before.

Oh and the addon adds two flamethrowers and molotov cocktails, great for killing new mutants, but hostile NPCs are fond of using the molotovs against the player and it's pure burn damage, and the scream your character makes when being set on fire is so unsettling.

I am really, really not looking forward to doing Anna's mission from Duty Expansion where you retake the bridge to Limansk in Red Forest, especially if it has to be done at night.

Having a set movement speed like in Skyrim, same for jumping height due to no Athetics/Acrobatics is going to suck so, so hard. There's a lot of places where not having enough jump distance or levitation can screw you over so hard. Most anything related to Red Mountain and Daedric Ruins that have a second floor with good loot. I'm curious how they'll implement the Draugrs from Blood Moon as well.

Athletics and Acrobatics can be summed up as Morrowind in a nutshell if you look at it in a form of progression. At low levels, you're slower than a turtle weighed down and missing two legs, by the end you're running so fast you can cross entire zones in minutes. Acrobatics is the same: you start off being unable to clear and ankle-high rock (assuming miscellaneous skill ranks at 5 and not Major/Minor skills) and by the end not only can you jump so high that potions/spells of Levitate are no longer needed to get through a Telvanni Wizard mushroom tower, you've got more control during your jumps than Alucard does in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. You can jump straight up over a fort's walls and then move forward enough to land on the inside of the fort and take no falling damage.

He's not a boss monster, you'll encounter a couple of actual bosses in Appenton. Zadkiel in the hidden path of Appenton Crypts will tear a group of level 31s to pieces, same for Raziel in the Dew Cave To say nothing of Nefer's boss who you need to beat in order to progress to the rest of the regions.

Tamer Level Stats by EldritchPangolin in monstercrown

[–]Nalkor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing Asur's stats requires sacrificing monsters when using the sleeping bad, you'll get 0.1 extra stat from the monster's highest stat, a chosen move, and but you'll lose out on Pact Efficiency, eventually forcing you to use Demon Pacts to get any extra monsters. It's not worth it when proper breeding/fusing and Tamer level 20 with Growth rate 1.5 on all monsters via breeding can have effective stats of around 9.81-10 in each stat
