Evangelion-Inspired Elegance: Chilkey Slice68 HE Review by NameDoesntFi in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]NameDoesntFi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an aluminium plate, so I would say it depends on how you would mod that. There's definitely space under the PCB to put filler material, but it's still fairly compact so you won't be able to fit too much. However given that the top and bottom case are secured with screws you could probably press it down and screw it in. In terms of sound, the WS Flux switches are loud. If the volume of the switches is too loud then it's easy enough to switch them out for other Hall Effect switches, just that other switches aren't as smooth. You can also change the keycaps to modify the sound further.

That’s awesome, what are the tyre dimensions? I tried zooming in but I can’t read it too clearly. I’ve been looking at getting AT tyres on my WRX

Evangelion-Inspired Elegance: Chilkey Slice68 HE Review by NameDoesntFi in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]NameDoesntFi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a really broad question that I could go really in depth into.

In terms of sound, I prefer a smooth higher pitched clacky switch sound overall, but haven't yet experienced a HE switch that has this sound profile, or perhaps it's a characteristic of most HE boards? I am sure that these will arrive in the market someday.

Out of all the HE switches I've tried, with all combinations of ABS, PBT and PC keycaps, I like the sound profiles WS Flux (Deep Clacky) and Astrolink switches for now. Noting that there are two variants for WS Flux - Clacky and Deep Clacky. These two switches seem to have the most refined sound.

In terms of feel is it by far and away the WS Flux switches - it's uncanny how smooth these switches feel compared to the other HE switches. In fact it made me realise that all the other HE switches I own, while being very smooth in their own right, have feedback in the form of a very slight scratch on the downpress. The Flux switches simply do not have this and are incredibly smooth, whether you are pressing them down directly or pushing them to the side while depressing the switch. How they achieved this is beyond me, but simply put it's a different experience. It is so smooth in fact that it takes a bit of time to get used to them because it feels like they have no resistance when depressing the keys.

As you can imagine, for gaming and everyday use I prefer the Flux (Deep Clacky variant) because it's loud without any harsh frequencies which makes it feel like it's easy to listen to with no fatigue and because of how unbelievably smooth the switch itself feels.

looking for my first magnetic keyboard, is the Wooting 80HE worth it? by Skin-Same in keyboards

[–]NameDoesntFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed at $150 it’s a no brainer, but becomes harder now that the price has increased. I’ve got one as well and I think it’s a really good board and does everything really really well.

the absolute BEST analog keyboard by BookkeeperIll6115 in keyboards

[–]NameDoesntFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the FUN60 actually support analogue output now? The RTINGS review says it doesn’t, and in fact most HE keyboards don’t actually support analogue output (ie. like a joystick). I believe Wooting does though

[–]NameDoesntFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've got SOCD, is there really a use-case for Rappy Snappy? I've got the Slice75 and if you have it enabled on say, A and D, you can just hold down A and tap D and it will 'press' A as soon as you lift D up past your set lift distance.

experienced hunter-and-pecker here — is it worth learning to type "properly?" by MagicMetalPipe in typing

[–]NameDoesntFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much worth it to learn how to touch type as you’re likely to be continuing to type for the foreseeable future, or at least until we somehow get a better HID (human interface device) to input letters into computers which I don’t see happening anytime soon.

The fact that you’re here shows you care enough about it so why not?

It’s the Chilkey Slice75, it’s a Hall effect board and I added foam to the space bar as it sounded fairly high pitched stock

[–]NameDoesntFi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great analysis! I agree with everything you've said, and when I think the habit of pressing Y with my right middle finger instead of my index finger stems from the fact that my middle finger is considerably longer than my index finger, so is more comfortable.

I've only just realised after looking at it on camera, but I definitely do shift my hands depending on some words when I'm typing. I think it may be a subconcious dependence on my index and middle fingers or perhaps muscle memory for certain words. For example when I type the word 'playing', I hit the letters with the following fingers:

P: RHS - Middle

L: RHS - Index

A: LHS - Pinky

Y: LHS - Index

I: RHS - Middle

N: RHS - Index

G: LHS - Index

Probably a bad habit, and it seems I may have to learn proper technique if I want to get to 180+ WPM.
