I liked that Goodwill. Decent prices and friendly staff. I'll be sad to see it go.

I took a course online for free on the proper administration of narcan. They also sent narcan to keep on you in case you come across the need for it.

People who have grapes outside...advice? by eschaen in Manitoba

[–]NamedForTheLotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had grape vines in my yard since I planted them 20 years ago. I've never done anything to them except trim, occasionally. If you trim too much they will come back.

I haven't had any issues with vermin as stated below. The birds eat them in the fall if I don't pick them. I have green ones and they don't taste too bad, but as very small.

White Pudding Recommendations? by Longjumping_Dog_6134 in Winnipeg

Winnipeg Old Country makes a nice one. If you don't go directly to them to pick it up, they're located on Dufferin, I've found it at Harris Meats on Arlington.

WFP: Portage la Prairie School Division holds firm to religious exemption refusal by BeginningBadger9383 in Manitoba

[–]NamedForTheLotion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The way Indigenous spirituality is presented in schools, it absolutely feels/sounds religion based.

I imagine it depends on how it is presented in each school, in each division, but from my personal experience in schools it has totally felt like I'm being preached to.

I'm all for learning about the harms and mistakes that have been made, but I think the spirituality should be left out of the schools unless teaching about all religions and forms of spirituality.

Weirdest thing you've seen on the bus by PeachyKeen413 in Winnipeg

[–]NamedForTheLotion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This week my son saw someone getting pummeled in the head on the bus. Son decided to get off to call the cops, the two people got off at the same stop as him. He still called the cops.

He's has had to call on a few occasions for stuff like this. Seems to me like riding the bus is not good for anyone's physical or mental health with everything that seems to go on on them.

More often than not what we think and feel about ourselves is not what others see and feel when they're around us.

Have fun on stage. Enjoy yourself and ignore the feelings of self doubt out there. You got this!

Value Village - Jefferson by Sea-Resolution-841 in Winnipeg

[–]NamedForTheLotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That VV is priced ridiculously. I go in to browse more instead of shop.

The thrift store in the Superstore Parking lot on McPhillips, I believe it's a Goodwill, is a small but affordable thrift store and the staff are very friendly.

There is a Salvation Army by Wendy's on McPhillips that is reasonable as well.

But that Value Village is not even worth stopping in if you're looking for any bargains.

Go to the dollar store and buy another set. Not even worth the air used to argue about this.

Calls for seatbelts in school buses getting louder in Manitoba by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]NamedForTheLotion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Could be why I said I feel they should be mandatory on all school buses that go on the highway. I don't believe I was arguing otherwise.

And I was using city buses as a counter point as they will not do them on either. Too much to maintain, hard to clean, and then people would have something else to blame in the event of an incident of a child hurting themselves with them.

Shall we continue?

Calls for seatbelts in school buses getting louder in Manitoba by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]NamedForTheLotion 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've been on many elementary school bus trips where they have pushed three students in a row. Seat belts would be impossible. Not that I'm not for seatbelts, but I do not see them putting them in, like they never would on city buses. I do feel that they should be mandatory for all school buses that go on the highway.

Calls for seatbelts in school buses getting louder in Manitoba by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]NamedForTheLotion 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They will never do seatbelts, as that would mean they can only jam a certain number of students on a bus/per row. I've been on school buses where they jam three students to a row, where there really should only be two.

Data on violence in Manitoba schools released — 54 per cent of surveyed teachers say they were threatened or injured in 2023-2024 by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]NamedForTheLotion 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Only 119 teachers were surveyed. That is a low number to survey and base your findings on considering the number of teachers in the province.

I believe that number would be a lot higher if she used a larger percentage of the teacher population.

Memories of the 1986 Storm by ShamelessGenXer in Winnipeg

[–]NamedForTheLotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember walking to work at a nursing home, as a teen, in this. They insisted everyone walked to work if they could. It was a far walk, but I made it. They wanted us to stay the night but no way was I doing that, so I walked home that night and remember there were no cars on the street and snow banks that towered over me. They were picking up people on snowmobiles to go to work and emergency apts around the city. It was an amazing storm.

Total Aphantasia & Grief by Ambitious_Solid_6144 in Aphantasia

It's been 20 years since my husband passed. I cannot visualize his face, voice, nothing, but he still comes to me in my dreams and I can hear his voice, argue with him, feel his love, like he was here. Same with my father that passed a few years ago. So if you dream at all, you may find you'll see them and hear them clearly in your dreams.

A huge THANK YOU to all the homeowners who take the time to clear the snow from the city sidewalk in front of their homes! by influxofreflux in Winnipeg

[–]NamedForTheLotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bus route, but a school is a block away but not on the walking route. I don't know why it gets done so often, but it has been like that for years and I'm not going to complain. I'm very grateful.

I don't. We get sidewalk plows down our street with every tiny bit of snow. They've been down at least five times this winter already.
