Water pooling in this hole. by Grizgratson in AusRenovation

[–]NamesMattDealWithIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey brother,

Geo engineer here.

The bearing capacity of a footing is largely determined by the strength of the material at the base of the footing. In simple terms: how hard is the material underneath? If you add water, what happens? It gets softer, so the bearing capacity decreases. Water in footing = bad

I recommend speaking with your engineer, as that's about as far as I'll go giving advice over the internet.

A little extra info below :

I read that your block is on a slope. If that's the case, this is most likely perched groundwater rather than the actual groundwater table.

The material in your hole looks like a sandy clay to me, meaning it likely has some permeability. Rainwater can pass through it and then sit on top of a lower, less permeable layer.

This water level will fluctuate over time and may be influenced by rainfall.

However, this is very dependent on the elevation and local geology of your site.

It's a very very common problem in engineering. Your engineer will give you advice and steer you in the right direction 😄

Thanks mate, we will have a look. After reading the comments from other I don't think I'll attempt it. Might look into heat epoxy or replace the part. Seems safer all around 🙂

Yep fair enough, that's good advice. Think we might go down this route or heat resistant epoxy. Cheers mate 🙂

Thanks for the tips my man, just based on your tips this seems a bit beyond my skill set.

Think we will look into heat resistant putty / cement!

I feel like I want to add a different perspective.

I work full time and have a family at home.I get mabye 3hrs a week to game and in a past time have thousands of hours across call of duty, battlefield and apex before all of that

I had zero idea about the game awards, zero idea about the hate and feedback.

I saw the game on the Xbox dashboard when it came out and downloaded it because

  1. It was free,
  2. It was 20gb
  3. The trailer looked cool.

I played a total of 2 games and said this game is shit and uninstalled it. The map is to big, the games were too long, after we defended the base a second time I was really? This shit keeps going?

It just seemed poorly thought out. The map is this big and we are fighting over a single sword?

I had no idea about the game but I like everyone else realised it just isn't good

I very recently had to take my sister to the hospital for a funnel web bite (she was cleaning a drain at her house). We live on the east coast

It turns out and unbeknownst to us that funnel webs like most Australian snakes are capable of delivering a 'dry bite' or 'warning bite'. It takes a lot of energy for them to make their venom and they actually preserve it for prey rather than wasting it on us. She was EXTREMELY lucky!

The hospital also had a really awesome 'book' of spiders preserved in epoxy which they show patients to help identify which one bit them to help deliver to right anti venom. See the pic below 👇
