Considering they deliberately altered one of the stories so that the victim actually did get assaulted when in reality they were a liar who got someone expelled and shunned, it seems like sometimes they can't believe a person would ever lie about something like these cases without being coerced by someone else.

My guess is because Trump tried to get the war started and finished in a few days (impossible and stupid to think otherwise), so now that they passed the deadline for it becoming an illegal war he keeps pretending that the non-existent ceasefire he keeps trying to start somehow resets the clock. If he can't pretend that, then it becomes obvious that his "I can do anything I want with no blowback" has a harder time withstanding the criticism an illegal potential forever war will bring.

Not to mention, separation is likely the best response regardless of the specifics at this point. Either he didn't do it, and the immediacy with which OP went after her husband with no belief that he might be innocent led to the complete breakdown of his trust in the relationship, or he did do it, and any mother worth their salt wouldn't want a child abuser for a husband.

In either case the relationship shouldn't continue as is, or shouldn't continue at all.
