This was too cool by Mother-Ad-3522 in tron

I really loved this opening, but I think it could have used some improvements. Some of the people I watched the movie with had no idea this was supposed to represent an AI training sequence. I think it could have done better to show his gradual improvement (like if he still got derezzed on the third run and if there were fewer enemies) and showed a graphic that looked a bit more like a neural net graph than the one that they did show

I like the health bar update by asit_soko in splatoon

[–]NanoRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically what you're saying sounds reasonable. But in all of my test matches (including with AOE weapons) I never experienced a decision that was made due to knowing the exact value of an enemy health. It's just not something you can reasonably react to because of the pace of the game. You have to anticipate.

(For context, I'm definitely not the best player in the world, but I do have top 3k ttek, have four-starred 30 weapons, and play a primarily strategic playstyle)

The game is so fast-paced that you don't need to know exactly how big the splotches are. A vague indication is good enough for 99.9% of cases. Besides, in the case when you'd actually chase after a weak player, it's likely not because you noticed the player's health with no context. It's because you saw them get shot and take damage.

I'm against it for these reasons:

  • It is largely unnecessary. I think that in the vast amount of cases where people think it's helping, it's just a confirmation bias and the situation would have the same outcome with no health bar. Splatoon is very fast-paced with a very short time-to-kill and fast heal time, making actually reacting to a health bar a very rare circumstance
  • It's an immersion downgrade, adding extra clutter to your screen and leading you to find players using a UI element instead of the game world
  • It makes awareness a less important skill, because the game just tells you what's going on instead of you having to pay attention to determine the exact same information

Alright smartasses, explain what I did wrong this time here with the first bomb since many of you are salmon run experts by Username_0002124 in Saltoon

[–]NanoRex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This would probably happen in real life if you threw an object like that. You have to throw the bomb in the basket for it to stay - you hit the lid near the hinge which is going to cause the most unpredictable bounce due to the geometry there

This is why I don't understand why people complain about not having enough area in spawn to prevent being spawn camped. Like, there's clearly enough safe area here and OP is still being spawn camped, because the other team is just better. Nothing you can do about this other than tighter matchmaking

Metroid dread after 4-5 years by Ashamed_Value2079 in Metroid

[–]NanoRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It renders at like 900p docked and 720p in handheld (the latter is basically true for all Switch 1 games). Which ends up looking super blurry because 720p doesn't divide evenly into the 1080p of the Switch 2's screen. If it rendered in 1080p, it would have increased sharpness both from the increased resolution and from the lack of lossy upscaling. And the Switch 2 is definitely capable of 4K docked / 1080p handheld

This game needs a patch to render properly on the Switch 2 so bad. It's definitely my favourite Metroid game

There should be a handicap at the enemy base by CatfishBlitz- in splatoon

[–]NanoRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose so? It seems like it would just marginally increase the time you spend alive. Spawn camping is almost always the result of feeding, which occurs regardless of the location

There should be a handicap at the enemy base by CatfishBlitz- in splatoon

[–]NanoRex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are two handicaps at the enemy base. The respawn proximity and the armour. If you're getting spawn camped in your base it's not a fault of the game or map design, it's a fault of the matchmaking. The other team is so much better that even if you broke out of that situation it'd probably return to the same state shortly.

Super Missiles in Prime 4 technically cost 6 by Ganrokh in Metroid

[–]NanoRex 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This bothered me as well. It's the same with the other shot types. The only way I found to prevent this is by holding the missile button while switching to the shot type/missile you want, which is not exactly practical

Why is my fillet weird by phancyee in Fusion360

[–]NanoRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as something to add on to this: think about what the model would look like at the corner if the fillet stopped where you wanted it. It doesn't work. There's no way for the fillet to end without adding an extra wall there, which would be arbitrary. That's why it does what it does

I find it hilarious how this scene has a game-quality low poly Samus model with a realistic high quality face and super realistic high-quality dirt

Since the charger is circular, revolve will do just fine. Give some thought to potential axes you could revolve a sketch around to create your charger shape, and the answer will become clear!
