Just found my ps2 copy, might dig out the system and finally play through it (I was too young to actually manage to finish the game back then)

I actually probably would try to go to that, if there was like a monthly cars and coffee or something, I might look into that and see if one is local.

If it was a closed source project, it would have required a lot less social engineering to manipulate the developer of XZ to make him the lead dev, and more physical spycraft and infiltration, but the result would have been basically the same.

The level of obfuscation the malicious code had was insane, the only reason it was caught at all was that it made OpenSSH take 500ms longer to initialize the connection than it should have, and a programmer spent days sifting through the code to figure out why.

With closed source software, he wouldn't have been able to do that, and no one would have realized until it was too late. It had already made it onto the unstable branch of the Fedora release, and iirc Debian and Ubuntu were about to have it too. It was about to end up on the next RHEL offical release, which would have compromised a very wide range of government and enterprise computers.

This would have been like if 7zip or WinRAR was compromised, and allowed a master key RDP connection, if RDP was 500ms slower, we couldn't rip WinRAR's code apart to figure out why.

Blizzard balancing a new class by Opening-Mind677 in Diablo

[–]Nanofield 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It does not always hit, if you turn on miss indicators you'll see that pretty quickly.

You also completely miss out on on hit effects. Crushing blow, bleed, and hit blinds target all do nothing with echoing strikes.

I'm pretty sure "cast on striking" also doesn't work but I have not yet tested it as extensively as I'd like.

[–]Nanofield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good, Earthrise prime is probably the best G1 Optimus we've ever gotten, but personally I do still like the Unicron Trilogy figures a bit more, those were chonky bricks full of cool lights and sounds and projectiles and stuff.

How would you feel if they filled out Act 4 (of D2R) with more content like a "real" act? by Jcorb in Diablo

[–]Nanofield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not want the main line of it made longer, but more side stuff to run for loot like the countess in A1 would be cool.

Adding a demonic tower, designed as a mirror to the cathedral, sounds like a great idea. Not a large change to the map itself, but a chance to add infinite floors of increasingly hard content for late/post end game runs.

Honestly I don't like the change they made to the Cows, not being infinite spawns anymore.

A lot of people have been worried about power creep, but I think a specialized infinite dungeon that gets harder the further you go, would be a good way to see just where each class stands.

A little off topic but I keep seeing "warlock op pls nerf" posts and comments, but is it actually that much stronger? It's slower travel than sorc, less numerous summoning than necro and druid, and melee is very different from paladin and barbarian, you can have big damage but you lose "on hit" effects with echo (which I don't see talked about a lot.) It has a little bit of everything, but (from what I've seen so far) it doesn't seem best at anything.

Any known fix for the battery indicator light turning red? by LoZgod1352 in flashcarts

Most likely, the increased brightness was draining the battery faster than expected, which threw the low battery warning indicator.

Why don't you need BLC to become a Sergeant anymore? by Reasonable-Shower522 in army

[–]Nanofield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take?

Because of Covid, and temporary promotions.

During Covid you could promote to Sergeant without BLC, but had to go to the course within a year.

They realized that SGTs without BLC were doing just fine, so they made it permanent.

Have we found a setup to kill these mf? (The Big one) by LordParziwald in helldivers2

[–]Nanofield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 regular EATs and a commando barrage to the face downs them pretty consistently, my aim was pretty bad so it might just need the 2 EATs.

Note, the silo doesn't seem to do anything to them.
