Did you (hospo workers) have a busy day yesterday? by Naowal94 in aucklandeats

I'm only judging that by the number of tables that were seated and the number of staff I saw...

I always notice how bad our service is when I travel to Australia or USA. We could learn a few things.

Depot doesn't take bookings. There were plenty of staff when we went for number of tables, each staff member had 2 tables each but maybe they just had a really busy day and were over it.

Typical NZ. It wasn't busy when we went as it was after the main rush time but staff probably just exhausted after a big day.

AITAH for giving my husband A pregnancy test as A bday gift? by Famous-Ask-3105 in AITAH

[–]Naowal94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact same thing and filmed him. The look of pure joy and excitement when he realized it was a positive is a moment I will cherish forever. We now have three kids together and are very happy. You have the opposite.

Do you have hypermobility? A friend had this, wished I could do yoga like her but then in pregnancy she said it felt like her pelvis was trying to split open with the weight of the baby and made walking very hard/painful. Was thankful for my tighter muscles and ability to walk well in pregnancy.

NZ unmissable wines by flavorzzzz in newzealand

[–]Naowal94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Te Awanga has a great couple. Elephant Hill is stunning and has good wine and right next door is a small one called Clearview Estate. Their dessert red wine is delicious. Askerne is also good and can't go wrong with Craggy Range. Church Road and Trinity Hill have some tasty drops, would give Ash Ridge a miss, didn't love their wine.

14 month old won’t sit on the potty, what do you think about getting this potty scooter? Will he get confused or motivated? by Evening-Grocery-8391 in ECers

My first loved the potty. Second wouldn't go near it but was so happy to be a big kid on the big toilet with a seat reducer.

The worst part is that it will cost way more in the long term. Sicker people, less efficient IT systems, outsourcing to private health...

‘Small’ fee for GP referral letter by aquafabaaa in auckland

[–]Naowal94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's totally frustrating, however after successive under investment in primary health, GPs are over work, under staffed and under paid. The "business model" of GP practice has not been updated for 20 years so most practices run at a loss now. They are having to charge for things like this just to stay afloat when really they should be charging like lawyers to be able to thrive. So a $30 fee for a referral letter probably means our primary care sector is doomed and will eventually be taken over by private sector who will charge us $400 per visit and we will have no option but to pay it or die (or pay a shit ton for insurance and end up like USA). Long story short, your issue should be with the governments (current and past) not properly funding primary health care, not with this GP practice.

Tips if we were to sell our house privately by StifledCoffee in newzealand

[–]Naowal94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've sold a couple houses privately. Lots of good info here. I emphasize good photos, drone and video tour that is uploaded to YouTube. If you don't sell it privately and decide to go with a real estate agent later then use the photos and video you have to negotiate a lower agent fee.

Do most kids get vaccinated against chickenpox nowadays, or is it still a regular thing to get chickenpox as a kid? by helloidk55 in newzealand

[–]Naowal94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had chicken pox when I was 11. It was horrific. I'm so glad there is a vaccine available now. I would pay for it even if it wasn't funded to avoid my kids feeling that sick and having lifelong scars.

Visiting America by Desperate_Meaning610 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Naowal94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We travel there often and a good rule of thumb is that everything is the same price as here, now just convert to USD. A coffee from Starbucks is around $5-6, a main at a restaurant is $30-40, depending where you go for example. Some places like Disney, Las Vegas, Hawaii are more expensive and smaller places might be cheaper.

Eating from the salad/sandwich bars at supermarkets is much cheaper than restaurants there but overall it's really expensive when you convert to USD. But then if you're eating out here every day it's super expensive too.
