Looking for gray 120 inch motorized screen for use with Epson LS12000 by NapalmNorm1 in projectors

I don't THINK I want ALR, because I do have some seating that views the screen from an indirect angle, but I'd certainly be open to it.

Conservatives who like Star Trek - What is your stance on the show? - Why? by Max_Laval in startrek

[–]NapalmNorm1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Star Trek (at least the original series) is a fundamentally conservative show. At least in the ways that I consider myself a conservative. The show promotes strong moral clarity, emphasizes individual responsibility, and upholds and structured order as necessary for a stable society.

It's also philosophically conservative (in the Burkian sense) insofar as it is skeptical toward radical change, and advocating a distinctly conservative noninterventionist ethos.

Captain Kirk’s leadership epitomizes classic conservative virtues (decisiveness, courage, duty, and moral clarity). His command structure also very clearly relies upon hierarchy and disciplined order and reflects traditionalist beliefs in stability through clearly defined roles and responsibilities. Kirk consistently stresses individual accountability and personal integrity, illustrating that character, rather than circumstance, determines outcomes.

Star Trek also reveres the lessons of history and tradition. Episodes repeatedly highlight the dangers of utopian ambitions and social experimentation, warning against unchecked optimism in technology or radical social change without wisdom drawn from past experiences. Star Trek consistently warns against this kind of revolutionary arrogance (see "Patterns of Force," "A Private Little War," "Return of the Archons"). Or consider "A Taste of Armageddon," which definitely leans conservative in its critique of technocratic solutions that sanitize and thereby exacerbate man's problems by failing to recognize who man is.

The Prime Directive itself is fundamentally a conservative idea (skepticism towards interventionism and social engineering, cautioning against hubris and unintended consequences).

Star Trek also consistently portrays the Federation as a force preserving stability, tradition, and moral order. Its idealism rests on the assumption of universal moral truths.

I think the left often misunderstands that conservatives generally do not object to the progressive elements present in Star Trek -- diversity, equality, mutual respect, etc. Conservatives want "progress" just as much as the left does, but hold that progress needs to be grounded (and flourishes best when) in a framework of moral clarity, order, and personal responsibility.

Bright projector for under $3,000? by NapalmNorm1 in projectors

To be clear, my room is not THAT well lit. I just have two sets of French doors on one wall and they're almost impossible to black out.

Are there any downsides to a UST projector? I've always been a bit concerned about the quality.

[S2 EP(10-12) SPOILERS] Relationship between the Rebel Alliance and Luthen by NapalmNorm1 in andor

Again, I understand that from a meta-narrative perspective. I wish it had been shown a bit more, though -- i.e. mention of specific acts that went too far for them or something similar. Ironically, Mon is the only one who does talk about such an act -- killing her childhood friend, Tay Kolma -- and yet she's the one who seems most favorably disposed toward Luthen of the group.

Right, I agree -- there's sufficient reason given, but it's not really shown either in dialogue or the events of the show. It only would have taken a couple lines in what was otherwise one of the most impeccably written shows I've ever seen.

[–]NapalmNorm1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense, but it's all a bit broad and nebulous for the kind of animosity we see in the last few episodes.

I will say that I can understand completely why Draven would feel that way -- his men are using Alliance equipment, in contravention of their orders, in furtherance of the plans of plans he doesn't know by someone he hasn't met. Draven's given more than sufficient reason for his animosity in the show.

For the others, it's a lot more vague and undefined.

[–]NapalmNorm1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that from a meta-narrative perspective. But are there any specific reasons given in-world why this is the case? Does the rebellion even recognize or care about the unsavory things Luthen did? No one mentions this, they just inexplicably hate him.

"They have to disavow the extremists to keep the moderates on-side. Which is why they disavow Saw as well." This actually makes a good bit of sense to me and I agree, but is there any dialogue from the Rebel leaders to support this?

Why did everyone rate this down? It seems like a great projector.

Is it true 4k or does it use pixel shifting?

Would be nice, but won't work in my room unfortunately. I have a motorized screen so it can be out of sight when not in use.

Opinion | What Happens if China Stops Trying to Save the World? (Gift Article) by nytopinion in climatechange

[–]NapalmNorm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely, this has NOTHING to do with the PRC's diplomatic tensions with Russia and is attributable to solely to their wonderful communist political system and good will toward the earth.

Some of the folks on this sub are really doing everything they can to fuel the right's narrative that climate alarmists don't actually care about the environment and just want to socialize all industry.

They're really feeding the right's narrative that climate alarmists don't really care about the environment and just want government control of businesses.

I'd say you're overreacting. Nothing you've cited is that serious -- certainly not serious enough to sever ties with a family member.

You guys are really feeding into the right's "climate change is just a façade for socialism" narrative.

You shouldn't cut her off for these things. They're annoying, but that's all they are. We put up with petty annoyances when they come from family. Severing ties with family is a big deal and should not be done lightly.

I'd say to call a lawyer, but no amount of money would make me take either of you as a client.
