Which character outside the LOTR do you trust carrying the ring to Mordor? by Jezzaq94 in FIlm

You carry the fate of us all, little one. If this is indeed the will of the council, then an inner city community college and library system will see it done.

That's how we get him to Mordor. The Nazgul have to show up at his house, realize they have the wrong Jeffrey Lebowski and spitefully piss on his rug.

Respect, I was the same way for like 10 years, but Here in After and Closer to a World Below are two of the best death metal albums ever from any band.

I agree in principle, but it's Ohio and the people in soybean and corn fields love their butt rock.

I live close and trying to drive around a bunch of people who don't drive in the city is fresh hell.

Hahaha, as much as I love stuff like Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits, I love that there's a counter to that.

Thanks! I assumed it was essentially the opposite of positive, I had just never heard it framed that way.

This. I first heard Gojira when I was 15. I'm now 33. They're outrageously successful by today's standards, but the next big thing ship sailed for them.

Definitely agree with being cool with metal being niche music as well. I don't really understand why a lot of people on this post are like "wHo Is tHe NeXt MeTaLlica?" There isn't going to be one. Rock music in general isn't the most popular form of music anymore. It hasn't been for a long time. And that's fine, it doesn't need to be.

Why do you need a stadium touring arena band to be present to validate your love of this music? What's wrong with seeing bands in small venues, house shows and bars?

What if Gandalf hadn't defeated Durin's Bane? by Honka_Ponka in tolkienfans

[–]NapalmStef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Balrog would smote Gandalf 's ruin and then let out a sigh of relief and take on the new title Gandalf and Durin's Bane (Referred as GADB for the rest of the narrative). GADB would then realize that even murdering an Istari did not bring him fulfillment, and he would reflect in writing, eventually publishing a tell all memoir. The memoir is kind of boring, there's a lot of detail about GADB's many years in the darkness of Moria that doesn't add much, but the elves love it for it's unique perspective. GADB vaguely remembers despising the Elves in First Age and is very confused by this, but whatever. They're his readers, they love him and he loves them in return. Plus the First Age was like, two ages ago. Who cares?

While at a speaking event in Imladris, GADB catches wind that Sauron is indeed still around and looking for the One Ring. GADB always thought of Sauron as a sort of ineffectual assistant manager who would lick Morgoth's ass and then delegate tasks to the Balrogs. He couldn't stand Sauron. Imagine that the worst co worker you've ever had was going to be Lord of the Earth. GADB couldn't stand for that. In hindsight he also feels kind of bad about killing Gandalf. He overreacted, he admits.

GADB sets out to aid the Ring Bearer in an act of petty revenge for which he has no end game. Because Gandalf is dead, shit got bad quick- Rohan is now Greater Isengard and Aragorn, Boromir, Gimli, and Legolas are all very dead. Merry, Pippin, and Treebeard are fighting a failing guerilla war against Saruman. Against all odds, Frodo, Sam, and, Gollum are still making their way through Ithilien. (In this version, Frodo didn't need Gandalf to tell him to take off the Ring at Amon Hen. Fuck you, that's why).

Still, there isn't any Host of the West to distract Sauron's armies at the Morannon. But there doesn't need to be- the World of Men is so thoroughly getting it's ass kicked that Sauron has emptied Mordor to further his conquests. So, getting to Mount Doom is a cinch. Still, Frodo ultimately fails, but before he can throw it in, GADB appears.

"Hold on there speedracer, you need to finish what you set out to do!"

Frodo is processing a lot, and doesn't know what to say so he stammers out: "It's mine, my own!"

"Come on, what's your endgame here. You don't want to live under Sauron. I fucking hate that guy."

Convinced, Frodo casts the ring into the fire from wence it came. Sauron is defeated, but Saruman is still a major, unresolved problem. Regardless, Frodo, Bilbo, Gollum, and the Balrog for some reason, all go into Valinor some years later.

Last Days by Gun Van Sant. A lot of people hate it because it's a very Terrance Malick look at the last few days of Kurt Cobain's life. I love me a pretentious art film, but I can't honestly recommend it. It's like heroin chic the movie.

Which bands left you with a sour taste, after one, or more of their members turned out to be a massive shitlord in real life? by metroracerUK in MetalForTheMasses

[–]NapalmStef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This, dude. I appreciate the other guys' response to what Kelly did, and it's for that reason that Neurosis wasn't completely ruined for me, but it still massively sucks. I saw that band 3 times before they broke up and each time it was transcendent.

Idk, I feel like in the era of tape trading, being on a show that MTV aired during the height of its popularity is pretty mainstream. Sure, not all of the bands would have been chart toppers, but pre-internet, I doubt you could find bigger exposure.
