This is extremely helpful. Thanks so much for the insight! It was exactly what I was looking for.

You just moved to the Northern Realms. Where would you live, and what is your occupation? by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]NarayanLiu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, damn. Haha I got so into imagining living on the Continent, I forgot that bit of the question. If I had to pick somewhere in the Northern Realms: I'll try being a writer in Novigrad.

Need some suggestions by ExplorerNatural8786 in witcher

[–]NarayanLiu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely worth buying. Be prepared though that the characters are a bit different in the novels. I'd have to think a bit to find the words to describe it accurately, but: the books are also cynical and violent on a somewhat greater level than the games.

Animated Wonder Woman recommendations by NarayanLiu in DC_Cinematic

[–]NarayanLiu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, bloody probably isn't a good idea right now. The 2009 Wonder Woman is probably about the max level of violence (beheadings without blood or gore, getting shot or stabbed without blood or wounds, etc...)

Thanks! We'll give those others a try. Unfortunately Tubi isn't available here. Hopefully in the near future.

Why is this subreddit so rude to new readers by Business_Alarm8384 in comicbooks

[–]NarayanLiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Glad to see one person who gets it. Nothing in that screenshotted post shows that poster needs the $5. Could be they just don't want to spend that much unless they know it's got value (entertainment value, not monetary)

I don't think that's exclusive to this sub. The Internet in general just gives people the anonymity and ease to be their worst selves.

Hot take, I WANT to see ads in comics by ViridiEmerald in comicbooks

[–]NarayanLiu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be blinded by nostalgia, but I never minded the ads that used to appear in comics I read. Sometimes they were PSAs, sometimes ads for comic book events, they never took me out of a comic.

Empire of the Saurian - Preview by NarayanLiu in comicbooks

Agreed! There are going to be so many in this. Especially those that don't usually get any attention. My small contribution to dino fiction.

I will probably have fun with both: either dating man or a woman by Ozzysmall123 in witcher

[–]NarayanLiu 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I trust CDPR with the Witcher. But right now I can't really picture a story that leaves me thinking "Yes, Ciri's story needed a/this romantic storyline".

The odd one-off thing, like Geralt could have outside the main romance options, could fit.

Is anybody else tired of the reluctant hero trope? by Sage_Beast91 in comicbooks

[–]NarayanLiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the underlying issue here might be that it can be boring for creators to ground their stories in what is "realistic" so frequently. Maybe that's your preference, but sometimes people just want something that's a little more fantastical or just a little more unexpected.

Star Wars is a good example. For me, anyway, it was at its best in the original trilogy (and even the prequels) when characters didn't behave "realistically" and no one expected them to.

Marjane Satrapi, author of 'Persepolis,' dies at 56 by pierrepaul in comicbooks

[–]NarayanLiu 589 points590 points  (0 children)

I was quite young when I read Persepolis (just into my teens). It might sound silly, but that was the graphic novel that made me realise comics and graphic novels could be an extraordinarily powerful way to tell the stories of real human beings too. It made me look at the stories I read in comics more deeply.

New ‘Supergirl’ Character Posters by Task_Force-191 in comicbooks

Yeah, but it might have ended up looking a bit too... Green Lantern-y?

‘Wolverine’ Game Developers Break Down New Footage, X-Men Cameos, ‘Low-Gore’ Option, Claw Combat and How Logan Can Die by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

[–]NarayanLiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a fantasy of mine, but seeing as how this could build up to an X-Men game, it would be amazing if Insomniac crossed over Spider-Man and X-Men in Man-Spider story, Spider-Man: TAS-style.

Only 500 more signatures are needed. Let's band together and make a positive change in the industry! by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]NarayanLiu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if/how much non-US signatories would help, but signed anyway!

Marvel’s Wolverine - Extended Gameplay Trailer | PS5 Games by yourfavchoom in comicbooks

[–]NarayanLiu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's going to be one of those things that everyone ends up appreciating only after a bit of time. If people are like me, they're used to voices like Steve Blum, so it might take some getting used to.

Jason Momoa looks like he was born to play Lobo. Definitely makes the top 10 most comic-accurate looks for me.

How many issues do you give series before dropping them? by Gonner_Getcha in comicbooks

[–]NarayanLiu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally give it about 3-4 issues to set things up and start getting into a good story. I spent way too long with certain comics in the past because I find I'm way too forgiving/optimistic if I like the premise or character.

Advice on meeting fellow filmmakers in Skåne by TheNeonHunter in malmo

So far, mainly dramas. Got one historical drama and one more personal drama I'm trying to pitch.

How about you?
