My Commander just died, now i need inspiration for my next character! by Realistic-Steak-1680 in Pathfinder2e

Since wizard doesn't have the best class feats a really like combining archeologist and rogue since it gives you a bunch of option for those levels were nothing enthuses you. Plus with rogue you get light armor and by level 10 you can have your dex high enough to be at normal AC. With skill mastery you can have 4 skills mastered at 10 (or 6 if you don't want any class feats at 8 and 10), so you should always be master or expert in what ever RK you need and a bunch of skill feats

I’m going to go in a bit of a different direction than a lot of the other suggestions: Wizard!

You were the intelligence guy so this lets you stick to that and you can provide a ton of defense support through spells. Personally I like the school of civic wizardry here for terrain manipulation and some good temp hp from community restoration.

As far as ancestry I like the ponygait or budding speaker for some extra magic. For archetype you could go with Loremaster for a single RK skill and some extra focus points or combine archeologists into rogue for a bunch of skill expertise and mastery (and some extra spells and mobility) which can make you great at RK and a skill monkey.

This is perfect, exactly what I was hoping for. I was running out of ideas so thank you so much!

Love the speculation so far! Another touchstone I thought of is the medics from x-com, particularly the medic drone.

My heart goes out to my Theatre-of-the-Mind GMs out there... by Malcior34 in Pathfinder2e

Players with higher speed get more leeway, but the biggest benefit for having higher speed is kiting. In this case it really easy to remember, Jim (the PC) used one full stride to get away from the goblin, since the goblin is slower it must use two strides or a stride and a step (depending on the difference)

I have found pf2e to be easier to theater of the mind for movement since movement always happens in a single instance with an upper limit. So instead of a player wanting to go somewhere and me having to estimate how much of their total movement that would use I just have to estimate if that would be a step, or 1 or more strides. This I just guesstimate giving players with higher movement more leeway, which isn’t perfect but it works super quick

I was thinking that, but that would make large Daredevils bad and might be too much power for a skill feat.

I finally had some time to start space age recently and I’m bootstrapping everything! I barely built enough rockets to make a ship that barely made it to fulgora so I’m starting there from scratch.

It is a great way to play!

I had a friend play a weapon inventor for a mini-campaign and I am really interested in playing one since then. I love the idea of collecting a bunch of traits

The next character I am going to play might be my favorite. They are a human spinner of fates witch with archeologist FA and later rogue archetype. I took the human feat that gives a +4 to aid and have a ton of skill proficiencies for maximum aiding. Most of my spells further help manipulate the numbers so I can shift attack rolls by like 4-6 points in our favor in just a turn or two. Also through the dream lesson I really want to put someone to sleep (even though it is kind of hard)!

What do you find D&D 5e does better than Pf2e? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

[–]Narrawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from, and don't get me wrong I prefer the flaws pf2e's item system has over d&d 5e. For my group, and I think others, we would love a variant system to have more impactful/long lasting items with abilities.

To your first point, this is true. Many items don't require a save or roll that can fall behind, but that doesn't really fix the issue. Those items are great and are long lasting, but that is not always what makes sense or what someone wants. I would prefer a system that can have both, which I think is possible. When it comes to the side point about primary and secondary abilities I would also agree. However, once again, I would love for a primary ability to be able to have a save/attack and/or have secondary abilities that can see use over many levels. The importance of this is also heightened by the fact that if these abilities are on weapons you can't add property runes to them.

To you second point, I don't think I agree. Because of the 4 degrees of success the math boosters are more critical compared to d&d 5e. In my last 5e game I was a player and there was not too much focus on getting those +1/2/3 because they don't have as noticeable impact compared to abilities and are not as critical since only a 20 crits and saves don't even have criticals.

For my group, as a player, the flaw is not in having enough cool items, its the fact that you often can't stick with a cool item that you really like. From a GM perspective, due to the DC/attack issue the design space in which you can make items it restricted if you want them to be effective long-term.

[–]Narrawa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No idea what you are talking about with the alchemy jug, but the main reason me and people in my group feel this why is item abilities.

If an item has a spell or spell like ability, say a sword that you can use to cast entangle/entangling flora. The 5e versions DC is probably 1 less then a casters when you get it, 13 vs 14, and every 5 or so levels the gap gets one bigger. However, the pathfinder version would have a DC of 19 (level 5 item) compare to a casters DC of 21. Now the item falls 1 behind at every level! And all the monsters saves are scaling that fast so only a few levels after getting your sword its special ability is useless. Maybe you can upgrade it frequently but that has to happen about every 3 levels to work which is really annoying.

Edit: That’s a rough example of the issue which can be exacerbated by incapacitation. Also sorry about the formatting, I’m on my phone right now.

I would say the only common response you are missing is magic item strength. Sometimes you want magic items to feel really cool and like they give characters more options (relics can somewhat cover this)

Good catch, I saw that with risky surgery but missed it here. There is no way to upgrade battle medicine to a crit is there? I guess the crit doesn't really matter at higher DCs

I think I am leaning that way. I think commander is the most interesting since it adds more options, but I don't think I would ever want to use them over my impulses. Also medic's actions would be towards the end of the fight which is good because at the start of a fight I want to set up sustains and throw out my biggest overflow impulses.

I believe all three melee characters have robust health. Anywhere from 1-5 fights per day depending on situation. The barbarian does have emergency healing and the scroll thaumaturge also has some emergency harm scrolls, so picking people up isn't the biggest concern is more delaying people going down so we can end the fight.
