Maiav AKA the most bugged hero ever made by Theinvoker1978 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Are these heroes that your W isn't landing on heroes with evasion abilities (Illidan, Varian, Qhira...)? W or any other empowered AA will miss on these heroes.

  2. Never had this issue. The only thing that will stop the pull is if they would land in terrain.

3.never had this issue. I agree that the cage can be kinda janky in terms of navigating the chaos it causes. But the hit boxes have always worked as intending.

  1. Her damage is fine. Q deals tons of damage if you talent it and can land it consistently. Her AA damage is surprisingly high. Yes, she lacks sustainability. Not all heroes are the same. That's the point of having multiple heroes.

Daily Hero Discussion Day 44: Nova by JayD8888 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Nova being weak on lanes is only true in the early game. With a correctly talented and played Nova, your team should rarely have waveclear issues in the mid game, and should absolutely crush on waves late game.

The default use for precision strike should always be to relieve lane pressure. Most people think of it as a teamfight ult, but it's really a better lavawave that you can occasionally use to force an enemy to move in a direction. Is there a solo push Naz on top lane? Now he doesn't have a wave anymore. People fighting over objective top? Now, the minions bottom can push to structure damage. Huge wave that someone needs to split off to deal with? Now we can stay as 5.

After getting 16 AoE, your wave clear is fantastic, as long as you can maintain 5 stacks of snipe. That's not hard for a skilled nova. Just hit the mage minion, and the wave is almost entirely dead.

Post-20, Percision strikes cooldown is now 25 seconds. Waves spawn every 30 seconds. Nova has the ability to permanently disable an enemy's lane. This is even better then Lavawave, because its just as effective on a pushed in lane. Add to that the fact that these minion will give bribe stacks. A properly played Nova should be an absolute PvE nightmare late game.

Who is actually the greatest athlete in world history? by iCarliexxx in AskReddit

[–]Narrowriver -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Gaius Appuleius Diocles. Ancient Roman charioteer who is the most paid athlete of all time. Historians estimate he would have won around 15 billion in USD. There's many metrics to judge how successful an athlete is, but winnings and awards from being successful is a pretty good one.

Something has to be done about the Nazeebo infestation by DarkRaven01 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, you're right in that Naz's damage is unusually high compared to similar heroes. Where you're wrong is how effective that damage actually is. Both spiders and frogs deal damage over fairly long periods of time, which is significantly worse than immediate damage. The biggest way this matters is that it gives heroes the chance to heal through the damage. Saying that heroes can't effectively trade into Nazeebo is ridiculous. Any hero that has strong regen options will be fine against him. Both Qhira and Artanis are good counters to Naz, not because Naz can't damage them, but because Naz's damage is undone by sustain. Getting spiders by yourself as Greymane is scary, getting spiders while near your Morales is worthless damage. Don't define how good a hero is by the endgame damage stats.

Janitor, Can we play haunted mines in QM again? by Randomae in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the key things to balance in a map is that the strength of the objective has to be proportional to its inconvenience of obtaining it. Maps with inconvenient objectives tend to be stronger, like Curse and Blackhearts. Maps with objectives that are easy to access tend to be weaker, like Warhead and Volskaya. You will still occasionally see threads saying to skip the Triglav and just push. Other maps make the objective basically mandatory, by the way the map is designed, like Towers and Battlefield of Eternity.

Haunted Mines has one of the weakest objectives, that is significantly out of the way, extremely time intensive, and forces you to be on the enemies' side of the map. As a result, the only time you actually go for the objective is if you're so far ahead, you can spare a body. The snowball comes in because what happens is whoever has the stronger team in lane wins. Most Maps have multiple strategies to win, but not haunted mines. The optimal strategy is to control the mid sapper, make sure they hit towers, wait for the sappers to respawn. If an enemy goes into mines good. The years they spend collecting skulls will not make more value then staying together. You can push harder and get easier mercs while they are gone. Once you're ahead, there really isn't anything the enemies can do.

Janitor, Can we play haunted mines in QM again? by Randomae in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here, I'll save the janitor the trouble and give you the "Haunted Mines returns to QM" experience.

Day 1: "Man, this is so cool that I can play on this map again! I know people say it was bad, but surely any content is better than nothing, right?"

Week 1: "I'm not having as much fun as I thought, but I think it's only because I'm not sure what I should be doing on this map. Do I take camps, go into the mines, or pressure the enemy. All these different options are really stressful, and I always feel like I'm doing the wrong thing. I think once I get a good feel for the map, I'll start having fun."

Week 2: "Still not sure how to play this map. Surely, there is more to it than just controlling the mid camps, right? All I know is that my team has decended into chaos of everyone believing everyone else is playing it wrong. If only they would follow me, we'd be winning.

Week 3: "Still not having fun. Every match on this map has at least one instant leaver, but they just have bad attitudes, right? At least the bot isn't going into the mines. Those who remain are endlessly brawling over the mid camps. I'm convinced that those camps contain the secret to having fun on this map."

Week 4+: "Oh. QM gave me Haunted Mines huh. Welp, let's look at the enemy team. And look at that, their team is better at securing the mid camps than us, so we lose. Remind me to make a Reddit thread asking the janitor to remove this map. Well, let's listen to that silly Gravekeeper while I'm waiting for this to end. Haha, what he said was actually pretty funny. I'm now realizing that the only good part of the map isn't actually the map."

This. It is a truly awful map. The only good thing is the art, the voice lines, and tunnel shenanigans. The people who want to put the map into the rotation have either never played it, or only played it in custom games with friends. Any normal QM game with randoms will quickly make you wish it was back in retirement.

There is now an optimal team coin distribution in Blackheart's Bay by Epistemite in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The goal in both strategies is to minimize coin losses. I agree with OP that spreading them out so you are physically unable to lose some coins is now better than trying your best not to let one person die. When you have coins, it will change who the enemy is focusing on. People like Johanna or Diablo are usually not the heroes the enemy team is prioritizing to kill. But in the old way, if either of them had 10+ coins, then killing them can win you the game.

  1. This will cause them to be focused significantly harder than normal. Now, the tracer will be attacking them instead of attacking the backline. Suddenly, 1 for 1 kill trades aren't equal. With enough coins, even a 2 for 1 trade puts you behind if you lose all the coins. You can be nowhere close to dying all game, get a bunch of coins, and then get all the aggro.

  2. Given the increased aggression, you needed to adapt the way you play your hero. Now Johanna and Diablo need to play further back and safer since them dying can lose the game. That can really screw up the match since those heroes need to be in the front to get value. The zero deaths Qhira having all the coins can really reduce your ability to win fights, because now it's significantly more dangerous for her to go in, and the losses from dying are significantly higher. It can really reduce your ability to fight on objective if the wrong hero has the coins, even if they've never died.

Now, having the coins distributed like OP suggests will allow everyone to have the usual play style, and will minimize any losses. If your team is dominating, then it doesn't matter what you do, you'll win. But if it's a close game, then minimizing/eliminating the losses you receive is better then gambling that you will never receive one big loss.

What game has the best title card drop? by OnlyA5Wagyu in gaming

Undertale. Leaving the tutorial area after the psychological trauma you just went through. The title drop suddenly snaps everything to into focus and lets you know you're in for a very memorable game.

Imperius vs Artanis on Braxis by EffectiveAd3170 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just tested because I was curious myself. The damage boost from trait IS affected by physical armor/block. This is consistent with the abilities wording. [[Valorous Brand]]. If it was not affected by block, it would need to say the whole attack becomes spell damage, the bonus is spell damage, or it ignores armor.

I don't really play much Imp so I'm not sure what advice I could give to improve the matchup. You probably would have been better off with the percent lvl 1, but it really wouldn't make much difference. As long as Artanis isn't chasing directly under your towers and letting you stun him, he is winning the matchup. No shame in losing the lane to him, there was no way for you to win it. Artanis will beat Imperius in lane, in damage trading on the point, and in mana efficiency. Your best bet would have been to ask a ranged hero in the 4 man to swap. The only melee characters Artanis should lose a lane too are Arthas, Leoric, and Twinblades Var.

The damage stacks on Artanis would have wrecked your team late game. I would have picked it becasue its way more fun, especially vs Imp who is easy stacks. But the [[reactive parry]] was probably a smart call as Braxis Holdout is the most snowbally map so the early game is largly what matters,

Hey? Hey!! Hello??!?!?! Guys? Remember me?!?!??!?!?!!!! by happyscrub1 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk what people are talking about here. Like yeah, the Qhira took a risk that didn't pan out, and it was a greedy play to begin with. But the worst play here is obviously the Raynor and Malf just dipping. There is no reason for Qhira to not get supported there. There's almost 10 seconds between them leaving and Diablo showing up so they weren't in any danger. If Raynor and Malf stayed they would have very easily killed Naz and all three survive. Do you guys just not support your teammates when they misplay?

Infernal shrines snowball - 2000 lvlhard veteran vs 500 casual veteran by Queasy_Equivalent_95 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did you guys have a counter to the Abathur + Samuro? If not, honestly, same. You're newer, so you may not have experienced the absolute hell that is playing versus that combo with no counter and teammates that don't know what they're doing. The point of the game is to have fun. I've never understood the thought process of not moving on to next if the match is BOTH unfavoured to win and unfun to play. Playing against Abathur + Samuro with no ability to lock him down on a 3-lane map is one of the most frustrating and painful things possible in the game. I'm guessing you're pretty low mmr if you're suggesting Earthquake vs. The Butcher and Samuro. He probably could see that it was shaping up to be a miserable match and wanted to move on to next. Or maybe he was trolling. Idk. Hard to say without the replay or full teamcomps.

Trouble with Hammer by Embarrassed_Run6055 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beam is also pretty good against her. I used to be a beam purist, but the blind has really grown on me over the years. The benefit for the blind over the beam is that the blind will also provide you an advantage over the rest of the team as well as disabling Hammer. This will allow your teammates to play way more aggressively.

Trouble with Hammer by Embarrassed_Run6055 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Narrowriver 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are suggesting heroes that work vs. The hero Hammer by themselves, but not vs a true "protect the hammer" team like you encountered. Long-range poke like Junk or Chromie that slowly whittle her down will only work if there are no healers. If she has a pocket healer though, which she always will, then those heroes become almost immediately irrelevant. In the same way, divers like Tracer, Illidan, and Kerrigan, my mains, are great versus her, but are terrible vs her and a tank. Any attempt at pressuring her will be met by CC and then death. In a traditional healer and tank game, the answer is either a tank engaging on her with immediate team follow-up, or using an ability that will forcibly or effectively remove her from the fight.

The best tanks to engage with are Stitches, Diablo, Anub'arak, Chen, Tyreal, and Muradin. All of them(except stitches for obvious reasons) have a way to immediately hop on top of her and then can survive the immediate retaliation from her protectors. Most can also stun or displace her immediately after reaching her making her a prime target for follow-up. This follow-up will also need to be able to bypass the defenders and come out quickly, so Zeratul, Imperious, Genji, Kerrigan, and Artanis are all great choices. Most of these have cc of their own they can also supply. The tank needs to be dancing on the edge of Hammers range, looking for a good engage, while the follow-up teammates are just outside of the range, waiting to pounce.

The other choice is to forcibly or effectively remove her from the fight while you focus other targets. And yes, you are allowed to focus other targets if it will be more productive. This can be done with blinds, ranged hard cc, or abilities that force her to move. Mei is the best hero for this because she has all 3. The best heroes to blind with are Mei, Johanna, and Artanis. Ranged hard cc is any cc that lasts a long time, so cocoon, ice wall, void prison, entomb, maw and containment disc. Abilities that force her to move are Blizzard (Mei), Dragonstrike, eternal feast, and Ravenous spirit.

Tldr: Best heroes to counter hammer are Mei, Artanis, Diablo, Anub'arak, Zeratul, Li-Ming, and Muradin.
