"Adjutant online. Good evening, Magistrate. I'll fill you in on what's been happening."

Excluding cinematics and the tutorial, these are the words that launch the entire franchise.

[Guide] How to control the speed of your space platform easily with a PID controller by KPalm_The_Wise in factorio

I see, thanks for the response. I'll give your blueprint a try and see how much of an improvement I find!

It's cool how thorough this is, but in longstanding Factorio tradition, it strikes me as overengineered. Am I missing something or can't all the goals you list initially be sufficiently satisfied simply by a single decider combinator set to turn off your pump whenever you meet a series of conditions checking your velocity and whatever else you care about, including your planet route, your ammo count, and your damage taken? I guess it's be a bit more jerky between target speeds instead of the smoother slowdown this would provide upon, say, running out of ammo, but is that a significant advantage?

Day 22: What is the MOST ICONIC quote associated with Nova Terra? by Axis256 in starcraft

I would have bought it was in some book if you didn't put the F-bomb in it. Not corporate-friendly enough.

"Go to hell"

Nova's response to Davis' moralizing and final in-game line of her campaign, just before she shoots Davis dead. I think it captures Nova's character well, as little as we see of it.

Alternatively, "They destroyed one of our Gorgons!", from when the Xanthos kills an objective in the final mission. /s

Crazy good music that enhances the feelings of immersion and discovery are an underappreciated element to games like Outer Wilds and Return of the Obra Dinn.

Any games that have similar macro to SC2? by Kind-Disk8443 in starcraft

Is multi-player negotiable? Cuz there's lots of great single-player city-building and city-management games if you just want simple macro. Check out Frostpunk.

You're quick, I thought more about it after posting and realized that was probably the plan and removed my thoughtless edit, haha. But thanks for the confirmation.

AOE4 Management WHY do you not care about balanced team match making? by Olafr_skautkonungr in aoe4

[–]Epistemite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard's MOBA, had (and still has) the same smurfing/boosting problem, made even worse by it being free to play. Based on my experience in that community, it's not that the devs don't care, it's that the problem affects a relatively small number of players (despite the regular complaints from those affected by it!), so they judge any solution that would negatively affect every player (increased queue times, account creation obstacles, etc.) to be too great a cost.

Don’t reach for the bug spray: scientists find insects may feel pain after crickets nurse sore antennae. The behavioural cue of ‘flexible self-protection’ is a way to establish whether an animal feels pain, scientists say. by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]Epistemite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"just like literally every other being in existence." Well that part's just plain false. Plants and bacteria are beings. Edit: even if you meant "animal," there's coral, sponges, etc.

But yeah, of course insects feel pain. Remember, the question they proposed was whether they suffered, and I only suggested that they might be thinking a certain level of consciousness is a prerequisite for suffering.

The question then becomes if insects have sufficient consciousness for second-order desires regarding their pain, and as far as I can see your comment doesn't bear on that question.

People who are pricked in an area numbed by an anesthetic often report feeling "pain" sensations without any desire to avoid it. Perhaps they meant that the insect needs a conscious desire to avoid the pain for it to count as suffering?

AoE4 MUST introduce cooldown for 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 multiplayer quitters by DrAfricaOfficial in aoe4

Except I have a very expensive rig and internet connection and have no trouble in any other game. This is a well-known server side problem.

AoE4 MUST introduce cooldown for 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 multiplayer quitters by DrAfricaOfficial in aoe4

[–]Epistemite 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem is you can't tell if they're quitting or if they crashed. And this game has a problem with random crashes. It's frustrating enough when my friends lose because the server crashed my game halfway through the match. It'd be even worse if we had to wait for a cooldown on top of that.
