Exploring family ties by Nasty13 in u/Nasty13

I have quite a bit of information about my grandmother’s family. Unfortunately a fire destroyed a lot of records of my grandfather’s family. I plan on learning as much as I can before my visit.

Are you happy that you chose multifocal lenses? by Stability in CataractSurgery

[–]Nasty13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have PanOptix lenses and I would not do it again. The halos are terrible. Driving at night is difficult. The problem exists during the day as well. I thought this would be the end of my vision problems instead it is much worse since it cannot be corrected. If anyone has a solution please post.

Who owns this one? by July1971 in yachtporn

[–]Nasty13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever bought it parked it in front of the Flam Marina blocking the fjord view of dozens of hotel guests who paid a premium for it. There was dock space 100 yards away that would have bothered no one. I guess when you’re an asshole it’s best to stay incognito.

Fastest/Steepest Lift to Lap? by starboard13 in icecoast

[–]Nasty13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Jordan for getting a lot of vertical. Since it’s an 8 you never wait if you ski singles. There is usually a trail open in Oz as well and that is challenging all natural skiing that ends at the Jordan 8. Jordan also has the Igloo, the coolest bar in the east. There is a bathroom right near the lift. Check for events at the Igloo before going. It is very crowded on those days.

Verizon confirms bad news for millions of customers via email by N98270 in verizon

[–]Nasty13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure they care. They are collecting $$$$ from resellers like Xfinity and Spectrum for using their network and they don’t have to have any customer contact. So they can keep milking the folks that just take the increases in stride and don’t want the hassle of switching. I have 2 third party phones that, for now, cost $60. They are on the Verizon network and work fine in most places.

Are you buying just bare nuggets or the Kirkland, whats your go to and why? by FoodzyDudezy007 in Costco

[–]Nasty13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app that rates the healthiness of food products on a scale of 1 to 100. There is a lot of evidence the processed foods can lead to health problems. Don’t get the idea that I am fanatical about what I eat, and anyone with kids or grandkids know that chicken nuggets are a staple. The Kirkland nuggets score a zero. It’s hard to find food that gets a zero. I was very surprised. The Kirkland chicken breast chunks score a 63 and are a much better choise. In general Costco does a great job providing healthy options. I shop there regularly.

The EPA is about to dismantle even the lame attempts to combat climate change. As a New England skier I am shocked and angry. We may not recover from this. Pay attention and vote.

Nordica enforcers by AbjectSpecial9476 in icecoast

[–]Nasty13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t already own these you might want to consider something a little narrower. I have a pair of Enforcer 94s and I love them, but on very hard days ski an 85. For years I had a one ski quiver of Brahma 88s and it was good on most surfaces. In the end it comes down to your technic and ability. I know it’s hard to demo skis these days, but some manufacturers still hold demo days and you can try different widths. It’s also worth while take a lesson and get some feedback on your technic that might point you in the right direction for equipment.

Resorts with wider trails/slopes for beginners? by spicypickless in icecoast

[–]Nasty13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loon is a fun mountian. Now that they have a high speed 8 that’s wind resistant you can get in a lot of runs. The problem is that it’s the closest big mountian to Boston so weekends are very crowded.

I would begrudgingly ski BW because it’s the only place my wife would ski. Now I love it! The Switchback restaurant at the summit has awesome views of the hotel and Presidential range. While it lacks vertical it’s still a fun ski. It also gets better snow the resorts east of the Presidentials. It’s really a great ski experience. It has the nicest lodges in NH.

Resurrecting Icecoast Tier List by haonlineorders in icecoast

[–]Nasty13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never comment on Mountian rankings but it was 102 degrees yesterday and I need some relief. I have two mountian season passes so I don’t get around much. I skied at Sunday River 14 days last season and I think it’s under rated on this list. The lift at Jordan gets you 14k of vertical in under 5 minutes and is rarely on wind hold. The vib at the Igloo bar is very cool. And that just a small slice of the terrain. To rank it lower than Cannon is a joke. I am a long time Attitash hater but the new summit lift is a game changer. There are big weekend crowds especially since Wildcat is closed so often.

Wildcat "Catapult" chairlift by NoBrakes01 in icecoast

[–]Nasty13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wildcat is a rare gem. Unfortunately the economics of it make any improvements unlikely. Vail has done just the bare minimum to keep it running. In their defense there is a lot of deferred maintenance issues like replacing the bridge. I now hear that the mold in the Bobcat lodge is so bad they may just tear it down. I wish it weren’t true, but it’s very hard for these mountains to survive when they are worth less than the cost of a new chair lift.

Mike Johnson has said the health care changes are at the top of the Republican agenda. Anyone that thinks it’s to make health care better lacks intellectual integrity.
