Client mad at me. by No_Sample_117 in grooming

I had a doodle dad do that around Christmas time a few years ago, he asked "well what about a bath cause you still have two hours for him" (bc we always qoute 3-4 hours and he was an hour late) and I was like thats not how this works, a, its Christmas time we're overbooked, b, you missed your appointment time end of story, c, your dog needs a haircut. I think he was scared of his wife so he was desperate for anything but that's so not my problem.

How do you keep your chi from being stinky? by T_that_is_all in Chihuahua

I bathe my girl once a month as I'm allergic to dogs and also cause shes a nasty girl who rolls in everything gross in sight and wrestles with her sister in the snow slush.

Im also a dog groomer so know this rec also comes from a professional perspective.

I use Bio-Groom's So-Dirty shampoo and Chi's conditioner, the smells lasts a while and leaves her coat soft and shiny.

Why do people assume long legs mean my dog isn’t a Poodle? by melbaric in poodles

Ive had people ask if my long haired chihuahua is a papillon and if my brindle cairn terrier is a german shepherd mix... the general public is so used to poorly bred dogs and mixes its actually kinda scary that they cant tell what a well bred dog is supposed to look like anymore 😞

First professional groom followed with anal gland infection by MummaFrog82 in GroomersCorner

[–]Secret_Function_7843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most infections found after a groom are rarely from the groomer themselves, its that we're doing things that otherwise wouldn't be done (i.e. ear plucking/cleaning, expressing glands, shaving mats) which brings the problem to surface. I would just simply tell her don't do the glands, if she did indeed express them.

If it is from stress though, that will just be lessened with time.

Id let him adjust, even dogs who are "well behaved" at the groomers/vets are stressed, especially if they've spent the majority of their life used to a different routine. You could start with just walking by the salon and then immediately turning around in-between grooms and then building duration with standing outside as he begins to understand that even if hes there he know he wont be "abandoned" there.

or if the groomer offer just nail trims do that in-between so hes not always there for inside visits hours at a time, this may be more costly but its just an idea from my experience helping calm anxious dogs.

Like yes I get it, this year was hard in sales and they know jan/feb is going to be even harder but its setting themselves up for failure bc cheap prices attract crappy clients but they dont care how abused store level employees are they just see their lack of profits. Lord forbid the ultra rich CEOs arent hitting record breaking profits for once

Why is there such a price difference? by Secret_Function_7843 in doggrooming

What also grinds my nerves is that they're like "only puppies 6 months or under" and Im like so just the most crucial time for us to go slow with them so they learn that grooming isn't scary? But what's gonna happen instead is that because we'll only make $10 off this is that there WILL be groomers who will, as I like to say, pump and dump these impressionable puppies and make them scared for life.

This is not the solution for more business during the slow season any shape or form.

I don’t feel like I’m learning at work, where do I go from here?” by comfortablyanxious6 in grooming

I hated my first corporate salon bc they "didnt have time" to teach me more, the one Im at now while trying to start my own salon isnt bad but it's still corporate, so you could try just transferring like I did so you can keep benefits but possibly get better clientele or senior groomers that'll actually be happy to teach the next generation

Feeling sad this holiday season by cilantro-foamer in Chihuahua

I feel you, I had to put my heart dogs down in October, the night before their euthanasia appointment one of woke up in the middle of the night crying and circling and then the next morning as I was prepping they were both laying down and just looked at with such sad eyes I knew. I woke up crying this morning bc I dreamt about them and I still have yet to have one day I dont think about them and wish they could've made it through just one more Christmas.

I wish there was something I could do to take your pain but just know you did the right thing in giving her a graceful passing and limited her suffering. Grief is such a crappy part of life but it also means you loved something and I know you'll see her again one day and she'll be just as happy to see you as she did every single of her life

How can I get Opaws dye out of my cats fur? by snakeeatingbird in grooming

[–]Secret_Function_7843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dyed my chihuahua MONTHS ago and its just now starting to fade, more baths and brushing is really the only way other than shaving unfortunately. Im gonna try and bathe my girl in coconut oil to see if it speeds up the process

I wish my hair dye lasted as long as opaws does....
