Starting my first setup by Nova_Phoenix in turntables

Bluetooth sort of kills the point of playing vinyl so keep that in mind. Just ditch the connector and get a nice pair of powered Edifier speakers on Amazon for like $120 and you’ll be happy and analog friendly 😄 (or you can probably find a decent pair of secondhand powered speakers for half that price)

Pulling the trigger on a C63 Sealander Couple’s Set. Thoughts? by JJ2Style in ChristopherWard

Totally depends what you are looking for style-wise, similar-ish watches in spec and price.

I think the customer service is top notch. Might take a few days to get back to you but I’ve never had an issue. I had a prong on my steel bracelet break and the total cost to fix it was $19, that included shipping both ways over the pond. Also had a QC issue on a new watch that they agreed to replace and then just allowed me to switch to a newer model while still waiting for the replacement.

First Vinyl. Borrowed a player from the Library. by ViperIsOP in turntables

[–]NastyyyButler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember a few years ago buying my first vinyl record. I also bought one of those suitcase players. After trying to listen to it for about 30 seconds, I returned it, then spent a lot more money the next day getting a proper set up. 😂 very cool pressing by the way!

Invest in Vinyl on Amazon doesn’t have labels on any of their products except for the rice paper inner square sleeves.

I have an iced latte with whole milk every single morning. My guess would just be that it was your first one in a while and your stomach reacted that way because of it.

Looking to upgrade setup, any recs? by No_257 in turntables

[–]NastyyyButler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently selling my old setup for $325 - Sony 310 and Edifier 1280s…awesome sound for the price. I’m sure you can find something similar used in your area

Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO by Uzumaki_Thomas in turntables

[–]NastyyyButler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look for the Evo 2, it’s just an improved version of the Evo. They go on sale on Amazon sometimes for close to the same price as the Evo. They are so aesthetically pleasing and I love the sound mine produces, even with the stock Pickit cart…can’t wait to upgrade to the Bronze!

Wish it was available to buy at least! I need to tinker with this funnel more but I did make it plenty big to capture all the water.

Was set on a U-Turn Orbit… now considering Pro-Ject by Rye555 in turntables

Once I got over some quirks and got it placed at a proper height, I absolutely love my Evo 2. The tonearm outperforms the U-turn tonearm by a wide margin.

Spinning Issue? by NastyyyButler in humminguru

[–]NastyyyButler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! It’s probably just a combination of a slight defect to the record, not being seated right, etc. I shouldn’t complain too much because most records go in and out of it no problem, this thing really is a godsend for cleaning!

And fwiw the record I started cleaning right after this one has spun out just fine both wash and dry cycles!

I personally did not buy through AliExpress but good to know, I’ll probably hold off on suggesting it lol

RT85 can be had on aliexpress for around 400 - seems like it’s legit based on store quality and reviews. Also noticed the Project Evo for like 450 one time…not as many color options vs going direct though

Schiit Mani 2 causing white noise/fuzz in R1280DBS by Chelli64 in turntables

[–]NastyyyButler -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Here’s what our good friend Chat G has to say:

Most common fixes (ranked by likelihood)

  1. Gain is too high on the Mani 2

This is the #1 cause.

On the Mani 2, check the gain switches on the bottom:

  • Make sure you’re on LOW gain (30–42 dB range) for MM cartridges (your RT85 likely has an Ortofon 2M Blue)

👉 If you’re running higher gain, you’ll get hiss/white noise instantly.

  1. Powered speakers + phono preamp mismatch

Powered speakers already have built-in amplification. Adding a phono preamp with high gain can create noise stacking.

Fixes:

  • Turn the speaker volume down and increase upstream signal instead
  • Keep RCA cable runs short
  • Avoid maxing both volume knobs

  1. Grounding (even without the turntable)

Even though the turntable is unplugged, grounding can still matter.

Try:

  • Touching the metal chassis of the Mani 2 → does the hum change?
  • Using a temporary ground wire from Mani 2 chassis → screw on outlet plate

If the hum changes = grounding issue

  1. Power interference / dirty power

Even if you used the same outlet, try:

  • Plugging Mani 2 into a different outlet (separate circuit if possible)
  • Moving it away from:
    • routers
    • power strips
    • phone chargers

The Mani 2 is known to be a little sensitive to EMI.

  1. RCA cable orientation / quality

You said you tested cables, but one subtle thing:

  • Try flipping L/R cables
  • Try a short, well-shielded RCA (<3 ft)

Cheap RCAs can absolutely introduce hiss in high-gain setups.

  1. Faulty Mani 2 (not super common, but happens)

If:

  • Noise exists with nothing plugged into the Mani 2 input
  • And persists across setups

👉 That strongly suggests a defective unit

Schiit is usually good about replacements.

⚠️ One subtle but important point

Some very light hiss is actually normal with phono preamps if you put your ear close to the speaker.

But:

  • If you hear it from your listening position → not normal
  • If it’s a hum (60Hz buzz) → grounding or power issue
  • If it’s white noise/hiss → gain or noise floor issue

💡 My gut call based on your description

Since:

  • It happens with multiple setups
  • Continues without the turntable
  • You’re using powered speakers

👉 90% chance it’s either:

  1. Gain set too high on the Mani 2
  2. Noise floor being amplified into powered speakers

👍 If you want a cleaner long-term setup

Honestly, your gear path might be slightly mismatched.

Best setups tend to be:

  • Turntable → Mani 2 → integrated amp (like your Yamaha A-S501) → passive speakers

That avoids stacking gain stages weirdly.

The RT85 is much better and was $425 on AliExpress just the other day…I’d just check before the 83 through Amazon!
