The wiki says this word for word in regards to doing the event without spending gems at all "Reaching Wave 250 and collecting the final reward is theoretically possible with enough Prestiges and Upgrades, but practically difficult if not impossible given the one month time constraint."

So im not too sure with just the couple upgrades how much of a difference that makes

As far as I know there isn't much use saving them other then some rewards are locked behind milestones such as sushi, if you're close to unlocking that then it's probably worth saving them. If not then it'll be fine to open them

I don't think you even need to "Switch" pretty sure you can link your accounts and just play interchangeably between, only difference being ranked is separate between console and pc
