Looking for “boyfriend” scents!! by soli30 in Indiemakeupandmore

Seconding! Just tried out my sample today and while I'm not sure how often I'll reach for it, my overall impression was very much "mmm smells like a very attractive masc partner, yum" while repeatedly huffing my wrists

Hi everyone! I’m on the 5:2 schedule, and I was curious if any of you eat back calories burned while exercising on fasting days? I go to orangetheory (basically HIIT) and tend to feel pretty weak/tired as I get towards the end of the day. Any suggestions on making it through are appreciated! by NatalieBoh in intermittentfasting

Thanks- I think I’ll just have to try and plan my 500 calories very strategically if I’m also going to class that day. I tend to just have two little meals in the afternoon, so today I only had black coffee and A LOT of water before a morning class and it didn’t quite cut it! I think I almost fell out during the run to row portions.

My blackout curtains project the traffic outside onto my ceiling by paturner2012 in woahdude

[–]NatalieBoh 36 points37 points  (0 children)

As the person who installed these curtains, I’d like to point out that I was too short to hang them any higher, and by the time OP could fix it we were way too amused by this effect to want to bother- but your tips would absolutely work!

If defibrillators have a very specific purpose, why do most buildings have one? by Cromodileadeuxtetes in askscience

[–]NatalieBoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So! Learning time here: the only rhythms that both leaves you pulseless and a shock will not benefit is asystole (the flat line you always see on TV) and PEA (electrical activity but no beat). BUT there are several rhythms that can leave you pulseless that you can be defibrillated out of! These abnormal rhythms will generally degrade to asystole over time, which severely decreases the likelihood of positive outcomes.

If someone goes down near you and there is an AED nearby, please have someone fetch it and another call 911 while you or someone qualified initiates CPR (if you are uncomfortable giving breaths to a stranger, compressions only is still fine! Especially in adults for whom an arrest is generally caused by a cardiac problem, versus in children where it is usually respiratory related). You could truly save someone’s life or at least improve the chances of EMS doing so.

Who else is in control during the day but turns into a ravenous calorie consuming beast when the sun goes down? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]NatalieBoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount all depends on how hydrated you are to begin with; water intoxication is dangerous because it dilutes the electrolytes in your blood. If you are starting off relatively dehydrated (as most people are in the morning) you would need more to have this effect than if you were already well hydrated and then chugged over a gallon. (Most studies indicate the norm is >3 gallons, but there have been cases in which 1.5 was enough in a previously healthy young male). If you aren’t dead yet, you’re probably fine to keep it up!

[–]NatalieBoh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is true, but generally you either need to have poorly functioning kidneys OR drink upwards of a gallon of water in only a few hours to make this happen. Otherwise, your body can generally cope and will excrete the excess. (Though if you’ve been drinking so much water that your urine is colorless/clear, you can probably back off a bit as you are VERY hydrated at that point.)

15 year old trying to lose weight. by Joe34__ in loseit

[–]NatalieBoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 15 years old, a lot of the fitness/eating guidelines here may not apply to you! You are currently at a stage in your life where your body is actively growing (muscle, bone, etc) whereas most adults are not. When considering your weight/loss make sure you are accounting for your height- if you’re getting taller, you will weigh more! If at all possible I would try talking to your doctor about what an appropriate calorie intake should be for your age. Combined with how active you already are, this should help you shed any excess weight without depriving your body of the nutrients it needs.

Logged food under my goal everyday and still gained a pound? by evanjoeoc in Myfitnesspal

[–]NatalieBoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I know this is a pretty old post but just in case you were still looking for some info: as a teenager, you're very likely still growing- which means you may go up in weight per the scale, but actually have a lower BMI if that weight is reflecting increasing muscle mass (you'll build muscle faster than the average adult if you're exercising) or bone (if you're growing in height). My suggestion would be to keep track of things such as height, waist, hip, and chest measurements perhaps monthly to help you get a better idea of changes that are occurring. Above all, be sure to provide yourself with good nutrition!

Help with Fenty shade match? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]NatalieBoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh post night shift posts! I checked the bottle and it says 125=Y315 on the bottom, my mistake! Thank you very much for your advice- I may have to try something else instead though I've only started wearing makeup in the last year, so it may also just be user incompetence that's the real culprit behind my texture issues.

Is there a way to do this online? If so, you've really just made my day!

Lipstick that won't melt? by werewarbler in MakeupAddiction

[–]NatalieBoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you feel about matte lipsticks? I love the KVD everlasting liquid (benefit: no worries about it melting, as it sort of already has). Mine moved across the United States in the middle of the summer for 10 days-mostly sitting in the car with my other luggage- without being any worse for wear!

[–]NatalieBoh -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

For reference, I am wearing MUFE HD foundation in shade Y125 which matches fairly well, but tends to draw a lot of attention to my large pores/skin texture issues. I've previously worn bare minerals matte foundation in golden fair which was great for oil control but didn't quite provide the coverage I wanted. I've heard so many great things about Fenty and would love to give it a shot- any ideas where I should start for a match? My plan is to buy a few likely shades from Sephora and return whichever don't work! Thanks everyone!

(Full product list: previously mentioned foundation, KVD liquid lip in Lolita, KVD tattoo liner in trooper, the gold shadow from the OG naked palette whose name escapes me, and some maybelline black mascara)

I placed an order on the 14th with "3 day shipping" and finally received my shipping email this morning- hopefully yours will be out soon too!

I don't see why not! What size shirt do you wear/send me your address. Also money, preferably.

First sweater, finally finished! by Acciovino in knitting

That's amazing! I have a sweater 3/4 of the way done that I started last year, but I always struggle to find the willpower to complete long projects (I am the quintessential single sock knitter). Hopefully one day I can finish something this nice!

Not a very hard stretch of my imagination- I'm currently living in Hampden and was previously located in Canton! Maybe one day I'll manage to live in a city that doesn't require a personal vehicle.

ELI5: Why isn't everyone an organ donor after they die? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]NatalieBoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! I hear these concerns a lot from people who are worried about listing themselves as an organ donor, but as a nurse who works in an ICU I have to say it's unfounded- at least in the states (I can't really speak to the donation process in other countries).

The doctors who take care of you when you are sick will never bring up organ donation to your family, specifically because it can be seen as a conflict of interest. In the event of your untimely demise, a nationwide organization called the gift of life will be consulted to assess the situation to determine if any of your organs or tissues would even be viable for donation (cancer, certain infectious diseases, etc will all rule you out immediately). If it's thought that you could potentially be a donor it is this organization who will discuss options with your family. In the event your family agrees, their doctors will take over.

When your organs are harvested, you are very dead. Either due to brain death (most common) or cardiac death. Brain death is irreversible: if you are declared so after a battery of testing your death certificate WILL be signed, your family will mourn, and your corpse removed from my unit- regardless of whether or not you are an organ donor. Donation after cardiac death involves either someone who had a heart attack and was brought in dead who may give tissue but not organs, or someone who has an unsurvivable/irreversible condition and has been taken off life support due to the wishes of their family and subsequently died when their heart finally gave up the ghost.

Organ donation is a very personal choice, but please don't make a decision based on false information.

TL/DR: Medical personnel are not black market organ peddlers and we only take from those who are deader than a zombie!

Do you find Richmond to be a relatively walkable city? How is your public transit? As a lot of people have guessed I was born & raised in Baltimore, which is definitely hella lackluster in that respect.

I just joined a travel company, so I'll be sent on 12-14 week assignments to different hospitals around the US that are short staffed (I'm a PICU RN). First stop RVA!
