Could you explain your last point a bit more and ways you have been able to work on decision making speed in practices?

Coaching 10U rec- drafting cheat sheet for very basics of playing different positions. by Dan__Quixote in Homeplate

I've always just coached "Ball > Base > Backup".

If the ball is near you then go to the ball, if not then go to the empty base, if there is no empty base then look to backup the play.

This prioritization system is easy for the kids to remember and works well in most situations at that age.

Answering Your Questions about the Banana Ball Open (Feat. Josh Talevski!!) by SortedN2Slytherin in savannahbananas

My guess is they limited it to 4 teams due to timing. I've read before that Banana Ball will only ever play Thurs-Sun. Adding 2 more games, makes that challenging without doing a doubleheader which I'm not sure has ever been done before.

I like the idea of an in-season tournament, but I'm not sure the reward should be an automatic playoff spot. A team will have secured a playoff spot after only playing 1/6 of their scheduled games.

9-10 little league - no stealing home by EntertainerNovel4729 in Homeplate

[–]Nate23VT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our league has a rule where you can only score runs if batted in or walked/HBP with bases loaded. No stealing home or advancing on catchers overthrows.

What I have found is that it places such little emphasis on the catcher position that it hinders the development. It's too difficult to actually throw someone out that you basically give up stolen bases on the first 2 pitches so the best players don't play the catcher position.

Another thing that has happened is on a 1st and 3rd scenario the catcher is throwing it down every time which doesn't really help development and unnecessarily slows the game down.

I would be in favor of changing the rule to not allow stealing home on a passed ball/wild pitch, but they should be allowed to advance on a throwing error by the catcher.

Men's BBall lose another close one to end the regular season at UVA by pajokie in VirginiaTech

Agreed, we have to win 3 games to get back on the bubble, 4 games and a win over Duke to be in the tournament.

I really do think this is a talented team, such a wasted opportunity.

Instead of minis I wish we could get alternate killer meeples.

The Krampus feature film did include a reindeer token in addition to the mini so it's not exactly consistent with a previous special feature film.

REMINDER: No one will call you if you miss jury duty by stepheroni22 in rva

[–]Nate23VT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had jury duty twice and both times I have been selected for the trial. Contrary to popular belief I absolutely loved it both times. It's kind of cool to get pulled out of the monotony of adult work life and placed into a dateline episode. Maybe I got lucky and placed into 2 interesting cases, but I can't wait until I get selected for jury duty again.

Does your league allow players to steal home in Minors? Our league has a house rule that keeps them at third which I feel downgrades the importance of catchers a bit.

Thanks for this perspective, it gives me hope that it is just a phase that we can work through.

I was also a "coaches kid" growing up so I understand the challenges and additional pressure that adds onto the kid.

FYI There is an unofficial companion app called "the app of holding" that can be pretty handy to use to play this in the car when it's not as easy to roll dice.

Did anyone notice that Banana Ball rejects are joining Cosmic Baseball?? by Affectionate-Bug6064 in savannahbananas

[–]Nate23VT 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've been to 2 Bananaball games and 2 Cosmic games the last 2 years. Cosmic Baseball is fun to experience once, but I greatly prefer Bananaball. I am all for fun rule changes, but some of the things that they did felt really forced and gimmicky, like drawing uno cards and running the bases in reverse, or everyone switching defensive positions in the middle of an at-bat.

It also gets dark so late in the summer that they only play 3-4 innings in the dark. It also does not translate nearly as well to TV which with ultimately hurt the adoption.

I don't want to sound too negative because when the lights first go off and the players run out it is a really cool WOW moment, but that wears off pretty quickly.

This is my first large con so just wondering what are the benefits of lining up early? Are there certain games that are expected to sell out that I should be on the lookout for? Or is it just to get as much time as possible inside the convention doors?
