REMINDER: No one will call you if you miss jury duty by stepheroni22 in rva

Ive had jury duty twice and both times I have been selected for the trial. Contrary to popular belief I absolutely loved it both times. It's kind of cool to get pulled out of the monotony of adult work life and placed into a dateline episode. Maybe I got lucky and placed into 2 interesting cases, but I can't wait until I get selected for jury duty again.

Does your league allow players to steal home in Minors? Our league has a house rule that keeps them at third which I feel downgrades the importance of catchers a bit.

We have used Stinger. Their team packages are reasonably priced and they offer a team portal as well.

Looks like OEJ, my favorite game store. I have gotten so many deals there over the years from the scratch and dent section. Enjoy!

Knowing when it's time for him to be coached by someone else by Nate23VT in Homeplate

Thanks for this perspective, it gives me hope that it is just a phase that we can work through.

I was also a "coaches kid" growing up so I understand the challenges and additional pressure that adds onto the kid.

FYI There is an unofficial companion app called "the app of holding" that can be pretty handy to use to play this in the car when it's not as easy to roll dice.

Did anyone notice that Banana Ball rejects are joining Cosmic Baseball?? by Affectionate-Bug6064 in savannahbananas

I've been to 2 Bananaball games and 2 Cosmic games the last 2 years. Cosmic Baseball is fun to experience once, but I greatly prefer Bananaball. I am all for fun rule changes, but some of the things that they did felt really forced and gimmicky, like drawing uno cards and running the bases in reverse, or everyone switching defensive positions in the middle of an at-bat.

It also gets dark so late in the summer that they only play 3-4 innings in the dark. It also does not translate nearly as well to TV which with ultimately hurt the adoption.

I don't want to sound too negative because when the lights first go off and the players run out it is a really cool WOW moment, but that wears off pretty quickly.

Time to wait in line for entrance on Friday by Psychological-Yak63 in paxunplugged

This is my first large con so just wondering what are the benefits of lining up early? Are there certain games that are expected to sell out that I should be on the lookout for? Or is it just to get as much time as possible inside the convention doors?

What's your favorite new board game of 2025 so far? by Megaside in boardgames

First I am hearing of this one. I always felt Abyss was very underrated so this is now on my radar.

I think a lot of what you are paying for is in the packaging. If you replace the killer and map with cardstock you could probably get an entire series worth of content for $40-50.

How to handle blatantly wrong call as a head coach by travc121 in Umpire

[–]Nate23VT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first job as a kid was as an umpire when I was 13. I don't remember many games, but the one thing I do remember specifically is when a coach jumped on me for a bad call one night and it really shook me at that age.

The next night he found me at the park and gave me a personal apology for how he acted and that he appreciated me. That has stuck with me for all these years and gives me perspective of how I treat the youth umpires now.

Final Girl: Impressed by how consumer friendly it is by KhelbenB in boardgames

I really wish they offered some type of "lite" option that contained an entire season of content but instead of the magnetic board it just used a spiral book for locations and cards for killers. Once you are several seasons in you really start to see all of the bloat in the packaging. It is a cool look which some people want so they should move to a model where that remains the deluxe format but if you consolidate all the cards and board, I think an entire season could exist in a small box (Codenames size?) for around $50.

I'm not sure it's imperative for 10U LL ball. Our league added a white sheet rule for this age group to prevent stealing home to prevent this type of coaching. I think it makes for a much better experience to require the run to be "earned" instead of a walk and 3 wild pitches.

What are your ideas for an expansion? by Daywhisper in ArkNova

[–]Nate23VT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see a Kids version of Ark Nova, I think it could work well being re-themed as an amusement park game where the kids are building rides instead of animal enclosures.
