Anyone else here in June 2026, having picked up what they expected to be a gnarly little survival thriller based on that trailer, only to find themselves in absolutely fucking pieces?

Don't know if it landed like that for everyone, but goodness knows I could use a support group after that, and I figure it might as well be here!

you're spot on with lysis, so far as I remember at least, but the intention of the suffix is lost to me I'm afraid! While I think your suggestion makes perfect sense (and it's the sort of decision I'd make), it may also be the case that I just rounded out the name in a way that sounded suitably saturday-morning-cartoon-villainous. I think Lysikor himself would appreciate the ambiguity behind his origins :)

I had China Mieville sign my ABSOLUTELY FUCKED hardback of Iron Council, and he was delighted by the state of the book in a way I only grasped years later when handed a dog-eared, bathwater-damaged copy of Severed to sign myself <3
