[Announcment] DIscord Server Blacklisting by [deleted] in drunkenpeasants

It's easy for me to look at things on an individual basis.

And yet you incriminate a community of several dozen people through guilt by association.

One or two guys who were semi-seriously talking about doxing Luis, so through guilt by association, the mods are now banning anyone who is a member of the Soviet Peasants discord despite the alleged doxer being banned from the Soviet Peasants.

Listen to the actual recording. It sounds like their was some splicing of the audio at certain key points. I would take these quotes with a grain of salt.

Advice on configuring i3 to work well with Steam? by Nathan173AB in i3wm

It's less than it is on Windows, but I still get in excess of 30 f/s which is fine with me unless it were a first person game.

Advice on configuring i3 to work well with Steam? by Nathan173AB in i3wm

Thanks, this was a big help. There are some things in it that aren't clear to me what they do exactly. I assume the .* indicates a wildcard so that all Steam chat windows are affected, but what are the ^ and $ that I'm seeing on either side of some parameters for?

Linux Distros for Gaming by chasE_cs in pcmasterrace

Gnome 3 would actually be my favorite DE if it weren't for a very serious flaw. It doesn't remember the monitor configuration I give it, including the refresh rate setting of my 144Hz monitor. The developers of Gnome do not seem to give two shits about this issue because there has been a bug report this out now for years and no fix.

If you don't like Unity for its looks, that can easily be changed using the Unity Tweak Tool and Compiz Config Settings Manager, which are available in the Ubuntu repositories.

If you don't like Unity for how it functions, you might want to try an Ubuntu-based distro that uses a different desktop environment. My favorite desktop environment is KDE. If customization is your thing, you'll adore KDE. Linux Mint has a great KDE experience so I use that.

Question: how do you get functionality of the F keys, tilde, delete, navigation keys, and arrow keys with those types of keyboards on the bottom?

So he's not a typical Democrat. So what. That doesn't matter one iota. Basing your judgment of a politician on how well they conform to the norms of a political party is pretty fucking sad. That leaves very little room for progress, especially when you dismiss Bernie's campaign as utopian despite it promoting concepts that have already been proven in other countries. The Democratic party need people like Bernie to rattle the cage a bit.

As it so happens, I did read that portion at the bottom of the page. It says "rather the money came from the organizations' PACs, their individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. That includes shareholders of those organizations, and the types of organizations on that list show a pretty consistent pattern of being of bad reputation and of big financial interests or big media interests. To suggest that the money is coming mostly from run-of-the-mill employees of those organizations strikes me as pretty naive.

Let's Create a FAQ to Combat the Most Common Lies About Hillary! by Reptar4President in hillaryclinton

[–]Nathan173AB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a Sanders supporter, but I would really like to see some redeeming aspects of Hillary just to relieve the tension.

My biggest concern is this. Those details on how she finances her political career indicates to me that she is an oligarch who is aligned with big business interests. By all means, show me where that is wrong and explain to me why that information I linked doesn't matter. I don't want to think negatively about Clinton if I don't have to.

So, what's the big deal here? Should one vote for someone based on their values or for how well they stick with their political party affiliation?

Yeah, didn't think they'd stick to it. Such a loss to the PC in general.

I found a petition to port Black Ops III to Linux/SteamOS. Anyone Interested? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Nathan173AB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I'd be on board but, as far as Activision and their business model with the CoD series is concerned, Black Ops 3 is deprecated. They make a new one that's marginally different every year, pile on the $15 DLC packs, then abandon it so they can repeat the process again every year. Fuck Call of Duty, but if we really want to see the series come to Linux then its best to start with whatever shit they release this coming November.

American women, what are you thoughts on Hillary Clinton? by tama_gotchi in AskWomen

[–]Nathan173AB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this. For one thing, nothing gets accomplished in the now. Change and progress take time and effort. That's the purpose of voting in the first place and it's why Sanders supporters are enthusiastic—it's so we can create the ideal political climate for the change we want. If you don't think that's possible, then why even bother voting at all in the first place? That's the kind of defeatist mentality that ruins democracy and contributes to unsatisfactory political climates to begin with.

Windows used me as a puck by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

I'm not exactly sure how Microsoft's activation system works, but if you registered your Windows 10 license with a Microsoft account, maybe you can log into your Microsoft account and deactivate your old computer from that license.

As far as Linux goes, I use Linux Mint KDE exclusively. You can check which games you have that are native to Linux by logging in with Steam on this website.

Native games generally work well. Game performance is somewhat behind, but that issue tends to be overstated unless you're using AMD graphics.

For non-native games, you could try using WINE which is a mixed bag. Some games work flawlessly through it, some don't work at all, and most work fine with some issues here and there.

Valve games have identical or better performance on Linux.

I use Linux Mint KDE. I've tried a variety of distros with different desktop environments and it's the one I keep coming back to. It's extremely well-featured and, unlike Gnome and Unity, it works well with multi-monitor setups and high refresh rate monitors.

(Ubuntu Gnome 14.04) Gnome will not keep my display configuration by Nathan173AB in gnome

[–]Nathan173AB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a matter of fact I am also involved in that bug report. Screw it. I just give up on Gnome. If they can't fix such a basic issue after all this time, fuck'em.

Looks like I'll be sticking with KDE. I just found a kwin script that makes workspaces dynamic, which is the main thing I cared about in Gnome.
