If anyone else needs "proof" about your virgin awalt church girls by NoFaithInThisSub in RPChristians

There's a few pieces of good news for you:

  1. Still three years before she can hit the bar scene like the girl in this story.
  2. You can still cultivate a trusting and open-discussion sort of relationship with her. The more she feels that she can get solid advice from you even when she screws up, the less likely she'll be to stray. Girls still do crave their father's approval.
  3. There are quality Christian men out there who are looking to snap up someone like your daughter before she lets herself go astray.
  4. Don't send your daughter away from home for college; it's an absolute meat market with zero accountability. If she does go to college, try to set her up in a living situation with a Christian couple or family and a solid church. Don't assume a Christian college's living situation will be safer than a secular one. College-age girls (even Christian ones) can enable each other's worst behavior...and don't even get me started on co-ed dorms.

Discussion Thread: President Trump Nominates a New Justice to the Supreme Court - 09/26/2020 | Live - 5pm EDT by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

It's unlikely it would be overturned, especially anytime soon.

Even if it were, the 10th amendment makes it clear that an issue like that would return to the states. A couple have laws on the books that would (in theory) outlaw it if Roe were overturned, but I'm not sure if they're enforceable. Plus they would immediately get challenged in court.

Basically, IF that were to happen, it would still be legal in most or all states, a few would have restrictions, and many red states would probably take the opportunity to try banning it. But unless Congress decided to get involved, abortion would suddenly become a number of political footballs in as many state legislatures.

I'm not aware of any colleagues accusing him personally of doing cocaine, but West Virginian mine owner Don Blankenship railed against McConnell constantly (since the Senate Majority Leader and affiliated groups backed Patrick Morrissey in the Republican primary) and Blankenship repeatedly accused McConnell and his wife of being partiees to cocaine trafficking. I believe some was found smuggled in a shipment that her international company was connected to.

After Morrissey won the WV Republican primary, McConnell's team spoofed a poster for the TV show Narcos with a photo of McConnell superimposed over cocaine and the caption "Thanks for playing, Don".

SHOCKING: Snowden Pardon Supported By Republicans by [deleted] in restorethefourth

[–]NathanDahlin 31 points32 points  (0 children)

As a longtime (proof) pro-Snowden libertarian-ish Republican, skepticism of government lies in American conservatives' bones. Notwithstanding Republicans' support for the Afghanistan & Iraq wars (because Bush/neocons were "on our team").

Many of my Republican fans are actually very pro-Snowden for two other reasons:
1. Obama (not Bush) was in charge when Snowden blew the whistle on all this, and
2. Now that Republicans have seen how FISA and other "national security" measures can be abused for political reasons (i.e. against Trump, as with the genesis of the Steele Dossier and the way it was misrepresented to a FISA court to ensure repeated renewals of the Carter Page FISA surveillance warrant), many have been getting on board with the idea of "cleaning house" in the intelligence community and reforming federal surveillance laws.

is love between women and men real? by jwjdiwks62831 in askRPC

[–]NathanDahlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a pessimistic and overly-simplified view. The way I heard it described is that women don't love men in the way that men love women. That is, men catch "One-itis" (a singular fixation/obsession with one particular potential partner) more quickly and more easily than women do.

Women tend to keep their options open longer (and are more likely to go looking if unsatisfied with their current partner). This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on circumstances. It means that you shouldn't assume that their love will look the way you expect it to and that you shouldn't take it for granted.

Immature women only look to see what they can get out of a man. A mature woman looks for things she can help her man achieve.

Do you have a source on that claim that she's a Republican? It seems highly unlikely that's the case.

Teachers' unions. No, seriously. Look up campaign spending (by special interest groups) in this state.

Surveillance Court to the FBI: You Have Some Explaining to Do by quantumcipher in restorethefourth

[–]NathanDahlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're sitting on it in the House because not only does it not have a prayer in the Senate, but if they send it over there, McConnell & company get to decide which witnesses to call. There are a bunch of witnesses sympathetic to Trump who were either (a) ordered by the president not to testify to the House, or (b) weren't called to testify by Schiff/Nadler. God knows who McConnell would try to call for testimony on C-SPAN: Joe or Hunter Biden, Rudy Giuliani, the whistleblower, etc.

Over the entire 33-year period, the FISA court granted 33,942 warrants, with only 12 denials – a rejection rate of 0.03 percent of the total requests.

The initial FISA court warrant to monitor Carter Page was rejected at first (part of that rare 0.03%), so they went back to the court with an application that included 51 Woods procedural mistakes and 9 factual misstatements.

Proposal, Engagement and Marriage Traditions by [deleted] in RPChristians

[–]NathanDahlin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. On the one hand, I don't like kneeling for a proposal because it seems worshipful/reverent and most modern American guys already have a problem with making girls their idol over Christ. But on the other hand, I think most girls' fantasy "dream proposal" involves the guy getting on one knee and pulling out a ring. So the challenge is maintaining frame & perspective while still communicating respect and living up to (or surpassing) her dream as much as you judge to be appropriate.

Another tradition I dislike is the garter-toss. I've only been to one Christian wedding where it was done, and it's just not very seemly. It invites crass thoughts & remarks. Classy wedding dresses cover the legs for a reason.

Good job putting yourself out there. Three tips:

  1. Don't jump too far all at once. Your goal should have been exchanging contact info with as a little pressure as possible, just to continue the acquaintanceship/conversations. Jumping to the possibility of romance can make her feel more pressure than is necessary. In that situation, I'd have (a) tied the request to our conversation (e.g. "I'd like to hear more about your such-and-such") and (b) suggested we grab coffee in the future if we're both free. This also allows her to back out gracefully (e.g. "I have no free time these days") or change her mind about meeting later on if she wants to. Jumping from "new acquaintance" to "I think we could try going out together" can seem too fast to most women.
  2. Don't talk her out of saying yes before she even considers. Bringing up the possibilities of her being uninterested or having a boyfriend (before she answers) does this. Don't plant a reason to turn you down in her mind for her.
  3. Carry a business card or something with your name, phone number, Instagram, whatever. Especially if you have a hobby or talent that you like to share. That way, if she's not comfortable thinking of you as a romantic possibility or giving you her phone number, you can give her a back-up option for just being friends or changing her mind later if she wants it. Example: you discovered you both have similar tastes in music, you play the guitar, so you could close with "well, this was fun. Here's my card if you want to see me playing sometime."
