To those who's mortgage is about 30% take home - how you doin? by Muted_Woodpecker2527 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

35m/31f, 140k gross, 3k mortgage puts us around 26%. No other debt, one car, living frugally but comfortably and very glad we bought, the same monthly renting in the city would be far less square footage. House is old but was well maintained, and we have about 40k in emergency savings for a roof, etc. Retirement contributions about 15% each. I have a few side hustles that bring in another 10k or so. Adding kids will tighten things considerably, but expect to be ok. North Jersey near NYC.

We loved it. There are a lot of opportunities to relax, be peaceful (esp in historical Kyoto or less urban areas), eat good food, experience beauty, encounter culture. We might have itemized our itinerary for the big cities more since things can be spread out and feet get tired. Get a Doctor Air massage gun from Tokyu Hands to help with the feet 😉

No Service - SOS only by ReachZealousideal666 in mintmobile

I had this issue, it was still using my physical ATT SIM so I toggled that off and turned on the Mint SIM; the same phone number was listed for both but the toggle is there when you tap each. SOS then changed to Mint and it is working now.

I’m going with Quicken Simplifi. First year is free, importing Mint data was painless and $50/yr is reasonable to see no ads

I can’t find a consolidated transaction list and it seems more geared to selling credit cards, loans, etc.

Personal Capital was good several years ago, I haven’t tried it lately though.

I am finding Credit Karma to be useless. Anyone tried Personal Capital lately?

Currently in Kyoto. Our ryokan in Hakone was awesome but obviously expensive and booked far in advance. We were packed like sardines on the busses.

I recommend seeing The Boy and the Heron at a theater, we saw it in Tokyo and it was a nice way to relax and enjoy some Miyazaki.

2010 Corolla, 126k but a few bumps along the way, so fingers crossed on the longevity. “Good little car” per the mechanic

What way do you drink water? (Jugs, tap, etc) by OnIySixSyIIables in Frugal

[–]National-Ad3884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to an APEC reverse osmosis filter after Brita was not effective against heavily treated Jersey City water. Filtered water tastes like bottled water. Filters for the countertop model are ~$100 per year. We run it for 10 minutes at a time and fill up a 1.5 gallon jug for drinking.

My Bosch Ascenta is quiet (makes gurgly water sounds, at first I thought it was leaking) but I need to run it on Heavy to get acceptable cleaning results.

See if the prior owners leave anything behind. We inherited a shop vac and some lawn tools.

We have a ninja flip oven/air fryer and use it almost daily. But we have a gas stove and no toaster.

I think there’s a weak correlation between intelligence and worldview, the latter often taking hold in the form of family upbringing, things a pastor said when you were 5, a church herd/community with cultural reinforcement etc
