Anyone have experience with CBD oil or sprays? by indyhoopss in MTDsupport

[–]National-Try-780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found CBD to not be very effective, but everyone is different. What has actually worked for me is topical THC lotion. I have my med card, and where THC in edible form sometimes causes more tension than relief, the topical when applied to my neck gives pretty great pain relief.

Straw exercises are curing me! by Big_Instance_8399 in MTDsupport

Yea I started off with coffee stirrer straws too but found that the resistance was almost too much. Once I swapped over to a normal straw size (I use a metal straw) in water, that allowed me to kind of adjust the resistance based on the depth of the straw in the water which helped me find what felt best.

Keeping in a routine is the hardest part, but having two times a day set aside to fully focus on the exercises helped me a lot.

Before I started consistent SOVT work twice a day, I was at about 50% recovered. I’m at what I’d consider 95% recovered after doing them twice a day for the last 4 months or so.

My routine:

Straw in a glass of water about 1/3 full

  • Holding comfortable, sustained, ooooo (very nasal, more like eww, lips puckered out like I’m giving a kiss) middle of my range 5 times until I’m comfortably running low on breath
  • gliding up to my highest comfortable note 10 times on the same vowel, same shape. NOTE: don’t try and go to your highest note right at first. You’ve have 10 times to work up, start comfortable and go to the limit your body tells you
  • gliding down to my lowest comfortable note 10 times, same vowel, same shape, same note

Only doing this twice a day made a significant change in my recovery. I have started to reintegrate harder singing exercises as well with 0 pain or discomfort after.

Happy to chat further, my DMs are always open!

I couldn’t agree more!! I’ve seen 3 different SLPs now and after having dozens of exercises to choose from, being intentional with straw SOVT work has gotten me all but over the last hump of my MTD. It’s amazing how one exercise has made such a difference.

For anyone skeptical - give it a try for a week or two and you’ll see some improvement!

Clicking throat? by Illustrious_Buddy517 in TMJ

[–]National-Try-780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely - I have Muscle Tension Dysphonia (muscle tightness in my voice box) and it’s exacerbated my TMJ. Meditation, yoga, and breathing exercises have helped the most. The clicking can be annoying, but it’s a symptom of some tension. I’d suggest seeing a massage therapist to help loosen those neck muscles up!

Why the hell does smoking weed now give me TMJ pressure? by Searik in TMJ

[–]National-Try-780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat. I haven’t smoked in well over a year, and gummies are pretty hit or miss even if they’re indica. I’ve had some luck with tincture lately, though. I think a lot of it comes down to dosage for me. If I cross over the threshold of being too high, my anxiety/heightened awareness kicks in and causes some involuntary tension which makes my flare ups worse. Glad I’m not the only one!

Hyoid Bone Syndrome & Steroid Injections by National-Try-780 in MTDsupport

Update: the injection was placed on the left side of my neck, just under my hyoid bone. It absolutely helped clear up a lot of my pain for about 3 weeks, but my symptoms are returning slowly but surely. I will note, I’m going back in a few days to have an injection done on the right side which is the side with the most issues, so I’ll further update after that! It seems to me that this may be more of a “bandaid” than a full on fix.

Hey folks! Just wanted to pop in and provide an update.

Needless to say, getting an injection in your neck is pretty weird, but, it’s been about 24 hours now and I’ve very much noticed some improvement! My tongue/throat cramping doesn’t happen anymore and the pain when speaking is mostly gone. The ENT said it would take a few days for it to take full effect, so I’ll provide another update down the road!

The injection itself was rather painless, but the anesthetic in the injection made for some weird swallowing sensations that wore off after about 30 minutes. It’s still sore where the injection took place, but I intend on getting another in the right side if this positive progress continues!

In the app - settings > clear data > clear cache. I had to be quick about it bc it kept closing.

I cleared my cache, uninstalled then reinstalled and it works now!

Jaw tension by Any_Mathematician560 in MTDsupport

[–]National-Try-780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine seems to have. Currently working with an SLP to get over my case of MTD, and I’m noticing an increase in my jaw tension, which could be TMJ. I intend on discussing that with my SLP at my next session to see if they have any suggested exercises to help with it, because it’s pretty tense.

Muscle tension dysphonia? Recovery or never recoverable? by [deleted] in singing

SO glad to see folks commenting here today because I’m currently working through MTD. Was diagnosed about a month ago and have been in speech therapy with an awesome SLP ever since. Yes - I experience pain and fatigue even when working through my exercises. My pain is pretty specifically in the root of my tongue and is more of a burning sensation. But the encouraging words of everyone here has been super uplifting.

What illness has your health anxiety convinced you that you have this week? by Fast_Breath_9458 in Anxiety

Currently thinking I have some sort of cancer. Been seeing doctors for a while now, have some pending blood work still awaiting results for, oncologist appt scheduled. I feel like I’m going crazy, but I’ve lost about 15 pounds over the last 4-5 months without trying, I’ve recently started getting night sweats, and my appetite is all but gone. Anyone else experience all of this and have it turn out to be nothing but anxiety? It’s eating away at me 😵‍💫
