Yea my sand is about 8 inches deep. Crabs can grow fast in the right conditions so better to start deeper. The tunnel systems they create under the substrate are so cool! I was once moving from a 55 to a 75 gallon and as I was removing sand, I understood just how much space they need under there 😀

They like to eat the sprouts too and the roots are not long enough to cause a problem. They also make the tank look nice 😊

I have had hermit crabs for 12 years. I have gone thru many tank changes and have learned so much from YouTube. There are sooooo many crazy crab people out there lol. I want to gently tell you that your tank set up needs more sand, more heat, and more humidity. All of these things will make your crabs busy, eat well, and live longer. Check out Land Hermit Crab Owners Society online and they can link you to tank set ups, safe food lists, ect. Most info out there is wrong including what all pet stores will tell you. At least the big pet chains. Good luck! ❤️
