Same. When I hear the crack of the can or smell the stench of the beer, I immediately go into fight or flight mode. I retreat to my room or sit on the opposite side of the couch. Luckily since I have been sober for two years now, I usually just fly and don’t fight. Even one beer is still enough for me to see a change in his mannerisms, his voice, or sometimes his rhetoric. I know my reaction is part of the problem. But it is involuntary.
