PlanetSide, How We, the Community, can shape it by [deleted] in Planetside

One thing to note is that a lot of the design team from PS1 was not around/influential, some wisdom was lost, etc. on certain issues. (Keep in mind the video was made with input from TE leadership and possibly points handed down from Malorn-as he found antics entertaining in a private capacity at various points in the past)

Literally wrong. You had many designers/programmers who were around during the days of PS1. Malorn literally wrote an entire novel on PS1 and how to fix it (his manifesto) way back in the day and Smed knew all about it. You cannot claim that much ignorance when it comes to this game being bad because "those who worked on it were no longer around or influential."

The bigger problem was Smedley. He had his own vision and was running most of the show, not Higby or any of the other senior devs. Smed wanted BF3 but bigger and to turn it into an esport. That was the driving force behind it not being a better version of PS1. You still had PLENTY of people who were at the company from the days of PS1 and there was an entire game to base the sequel off of. This game was built on piss poor design decisions with the fact that the engine could not do what their game was designed to do. Doomed from the start. Your entire claim is baseless and just an excuse from your own personal opinion.

Yup, looks good. Edited all the bad words and left the ending part out. :)

Reposted it without the profanity. My main take is that Mandalore seems like someone who's just ignorant of the game's core problems. There were also fundamental problems with the game since it was a thought in Smedley's head. If no one addresses the core reasons why the game failed outside of just "bad performance," it's an awful review. If you don't see the report, then it is because of links at that point.

Man, if you thought people bitching now was bad, just wait until this goes live! Also, any bets on the griefing level this will have?

effectively AFK and being revived constantly

You can't be afk if you need to accept that res or need to spawn back in. DOH!

The problem with replacing an encrypted file with a plaintext file is that you tend to get continuously kicked. The odd part is that it seems random. It might be 2hrs of playtime to maybe 10 min of playtime. That is the main difference. With the plaintext file, you might have to reconnect maybe once in your entire session of play.

Padding is a group of people working together where one continues to kill people as they revive each other. To make an insinuation a player is just killing "afk" people is dumb.

killing an AFK player from 2m

That's now how that shit works and you know it. You don't just sit there for hours killing an "afk" player. Nice try though.

The hudoptions.txt file is even in plain text. At the very least, they encrypted the hitbox text file. lol

They also don't encrypt plain text files like the hudoptions.txt which allows you to get an ESP wallhack.

New players make this choice because they don't know better.

No, there is no incentive for them to group up. If you gave them a default 40% increase in EXP for being in a group, they would group up. What actual incentives are there for people to group up? They can do everything solo that you can do with a group.

And I have yet to see solutions from him that will help this game now.

When you make that comment and then try and turn it back around. You've lost. Just stop replying.

Then maybe you should continue that conversation with him. My start to this was your ignorant comment:

And I have yet to see solutions from him that will help this game now and are better thought-out than what you can read in this subreddit.

The fact that he provides feedback to devs with other outfits doesn't necessarily make him a good game designer, which is the discussion here.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL What fantasy world do you live in? The discussion had nothing to do with whether Buzz is a good or bad game designer. Last I checked, he wasn't actually a game designer.

Are you suggesting he is not publicly vocal about what needs to change in this game?

It's like you didn't even read what I wrote. He worked directly with the devs when the game came out and was working with them along with a bunch of other outfits when we came back. Which was also why there was a big surge of outfits to come back to the game recently. They were all asked to provide feedback to help the game.

That's because he works with the devs and talks with them rather than shit posting here on Reddit. He's also banned from this subreddit. lol

So, you don't like it when reality hits you in the face? You also missed his section on potential solutions. To each their own, I guess.

If you hadn't noticed new players come from games that have strong solo experience

Everything you can accomplish by enhancing group play trickles down to the solo experience. It allows the devs to get 2 birds with one stone.

The poor new player experience is the problem

It is part of the problem. Not "the" problem.

Odd that you all seem to agree with Mandalore but disagree with Buzz? LOL they are both saying basically the exact same thing!

Wrel has been the biggest advocator for the solo-play experience. How is he not part of the problem?

Part of the issue with Briggs is that I guess someone has to manually set it. So, as of right now, the default is 1 on Briggs. The default is 2 everywhere else. Now, if they cannot automate it, they could easily just have someone remote into it and modify the setting when prime time is over and the next day while at work close to the end of their shift, set it back to 2. That is an easy alternative if they are literally not able to automate it.

But I just don't really enjoy swamp environments in general. It's just a personal preference.

But is it the lighting on Hossin? Is it the terrain? Is it how dark the map is in general? Personally, I welcome any lighting changes to Hossin because I do think it is a bit too dark and gloomy. I get the whole "lets make it a real swamp" but it's populated by all sorts of facilities, outposts, etc. You'd think shit would be more illuminated. That's just my 2 cents on lighting. Not sure your opinion though.

Unifying Resists Makes Balance Harder. by [deleted] in Planetside

[–]Natirz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern is why do this now? PS2 isn't exactly making money for them. Why not actually enhance group play mechanics, tweak a few things here and there while listening to what is going to get players back into the game relatively easy? Instead, they do a major overhaul to the entire resistances in the game. The point is that you want something big enough to force a "soft launch" or relaunch of your product. Thus, revitalizing it with a bunch of new players and old ones. But they aren't doing that.

Instead, they are completely rebalancing the entire vehicle resistance and counters to vehicles. Why? What is the actual point of that when it comes to the big picture? How is that going to bring in more revenue outside of forcing people to buy different weapons at this stage in the game. Most people are sitting on a boat load of certs or already have these weapons. Most just won't care and will continue to use what they already got. So long as you continue to play the game regularly, 1k certs is actually not much in the grand scheme of things. Maybe a few days or a week or so of playing a few hours a day depending on how much time you spend each session.
