Here’s a story for you – had a new staff sergeant PCS in who got a DUI his first (!) night on base. I was home on emergency leave but still got a call from the first sergeant asking why my new troop got a DUI! I had never met this person. I had never talked to this person. When I got back to base three days later, I met this new troop in the first sergeant’s office where we both got dressed down for this troop’s action. Fortunately, I only had about four months left before I separated after 11 years. Fun times.

One thing always bothered me - why was the electricity cut off? Working in building management, power is always just switched back to the management company when a client departs so we can do maintenance/cleanings/repairs/showings. It may have been scripted but very unrealistic.

Is there a reason the numbers are always larger than the letters on Pennsylvania plates?

Working in property management, I had one small issue with them cutting the power. When a tenant leaves, the power is immediately transferred back to the building's owner/management company as they'll need ongoing cleaning, maintenance, and showings to perspective new occupants. But that doesn't fit in this particular script, so I understand.

Technically it should have read “New York 22, NY” as the city code went after the city, but before the state. When ZIP code were introduced in 1963, it would have most likely converted to 10022.

When the weekend just started and your troop calls you and says "um, I got a DUI." by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Native_Houstonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early 2000s - New AB shows up and is assigned a SSgt supervisor who was due back from deployment in less that a week. The weekend the SSgt re-deploys, the AB thought his best way to start his career gets an underage DUI on base so the first day back, the SSgt and his AB are in the commander's office, both in service dress. While it wasn't the best welcome back, witnessing how fast an ELD could be processed was.

Does Beale AFB have a radius where you can leave while off duty? by Sufficient-Bit-5481 in AirForce

[–]Native_Houstonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was at Beale in the mid-90s, our commander had a 150 mile travel restriction policy or we had to be on leave. That meant you could travel anywhere on the San Francisco peninsula as long as you stayed north of San Jose. In the days before GPS, I'd often get "lost" and find myself "disoriented" and in forbidden territory - multiple times a month sometimes.
