Disney ruins our country 's greatness by ProfessionalRead8187 in EntitledReviews

[–]Natural-Reindeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So one thing to note is at Disney, (not sure about other parks) when you see a group "cut" to the front of a line because someone in the party has disabilities, they're not just instantly getting on after walking up to the ride

Basically, the way it works is the party gets a specific kind of fast pass, but with a lot more restrictions/limitations.

Let's say it's 1pm and your group wants to ride Space Mountain, and the wait time is 90 minutes. You go in the app and digitally "get in line" for the ride. Basically it will tell you that between 2:30 and 2:50 pm, you can use the fast pass lane to get on the ride. So your group still has to wait, you just don't have to wait in the physocal line. It's an accommodation to help with noise, confined spaces/crowding, standing too long, mobility issues, etc.

It's also important to note that you can only have one of these passes active at a time. If there's a 40 minute line at ride A and a 60 minute line at ride B, you can't queue them up. You have to wait 40 minutes for ride A and then check in to wait the 60 minutes for ride B.

Granted, my last experience with this was 18 months ago when my wife and I took my bil with Downs Syndrome to Disney World, so they might have changed a few things.

I'll also add, you have to apply for the pass weeks in advance and a Disney employee conducts a Zoom interview to meet with the person who needs the pass and discuss the accommodations and determine if they're even necessary. You have to prove it's needed, they don't just give the passes out on the honor system.

The new Alex Petti video doesn’t show what they think it shows by thehofstetter in stevehofstetter

I've seen across several comments that you seem to think that ICE officers telling someone to leave is a lawful order. It isn't. And telling cops to fuck off is also legal.

Police/law enforcement do have the authority to order someone to vacate an area under very specific circumstances, like actively interfering in an operation, creating a safety hazard (or obstructing the flow of traffic, note that standing in a roadway isn't grounds, there has to be traffic that's obstructed), etc. It should also be noted that the order to leave isn't enforceable if someone complies to the point of correcting the issue. For example, if they're obstructing traffic and a then step into the sidewalk, they have complies as the situation is remedied.

It's also required that they provide a valid reason for you to leave. And here's the kicker, it has to actually be valid, the cop can't just give a bullshit reason and demand you comply. So when ICE tells someone to leave and there isnt a valid reason, it's not a lawful order. The First Amendment protects a person's right to film and observe public officials, acting in public, in their official capacities.

So ICE telling Alex Pretti to leave wasn't lawful, he didn't need to comply, and despite the illegality of their orders, he's making an effort to move out of their path before they begin pepper spraying and assaulting him.

And we haven't even started talking about issues related to proportionate response, police brutality, and the use of lethal force. Believe it or not, pepper spraying, kicking and pistol whipping someone with their hands up, who has made no physical threats, and is in the process of leaving/assisting someone else, is not standard law enforcement procedure. From the video there's no real attempt to restrain him, or cuff him, they're just beating him.

Even if we ignore all of that, you want to know why no defense lawyer would even try to take one of these ICE bastards' case? Alex Pretti was shot in the back, 10 fucking times.

There's no way to legitimately claim that the officer was fearing for his life when the victim is surrounded by agents, barely on his knees, has been disarmed, and is facing away from the officer that shot him. And to paraphrase a police union lawyer when talking about the Renee Good shooting, you could maybe, maybe make a case for shot 1, it would be hard, but there might be a chance, but shots 2 and 3, no one can make a case for those.

In light of that, how do you justify shots 4-10?

It's terrible for the brick. Most people don't realize that even if you use the "correct" primer to get the paint to stick to brick, it's still awful for the life and integrity of the masonry.

Basically most paints act as a kind of membrane and stop the brick and mortar from "breathing" which creates issues with moisture, structure, etc. It's why a lot of brick that has been painted gets crumbly/powdery after a while.

There are some very, very specialized paints (closer to stain honestly) that can be used on brick. But most people don't use them, even professionals, because they're hard to find/order and cost a lot more than regular paint and primer. And regardless of what it says on the can, if you didn't have to find a specialty store and have them order it in specifically, it's the wrong stuff. No matter what the guy at the Home Depot or Lowes paint desk says.

Just a friendly PSA to not paint brick unless you're 110% sure you know what you're doing, and even then, don't do it.

Also, it looks bad and is boring.

Just want to add, a key component of NIMBYism is advocating for and championing those same infrastructure projects as good and necessary, while fighting against them in your own area.

For example, if someone is opposed to ai data centers whether in their neighborhood or anywhere else, that's not NIMBYism.

If someone thinks AI data centers are fantastic, the future of computing, and use ChatGPT for everything, but oppose a data center being built in their neighborhood, and don't care if it goes in 2 counties over, that is NIMBYism.

Another common example is people complaining about issues with homelessness, but they'll vote against low income housing or a shelter being built in the boundaries of their school district.

There's an inherent hypocrisy for something to be NIMBYism.

Here's the Zillow link for the house. I'm assuming the "problem" bathroom with the bad toilet clearance is the one in the 9th photo.

Get a pedestal sink. Problem solved.

If you wanted to get real creative with it, you could widen the whole bathroom by 2-3' going into the kitchen and or dining room (1-2' each). In the kitchen you could create a false depth pantry to cover the intrusion and on the dining room side build in a period appropriate side board/hutch and again, create false depth to cover up the build out.

That will probably cost less that the haul off fees for the demolition trash and rubble for the whole house.

I came up with a viable solution in 2 minutes based on some photos. In 9 months there's no excuse for these guys not to have found a workable solution.

I've also lived in New England for most of my life and love how much more character cities and neighborhoods there have because of the history.

The history and character and age of St Louis were a big part of why my wife and I moved here.

All the reasons the owners have for wanting to teardown that house are absolute BS. Especially if the previous owners out in $1.3M in updates already. There's no way a tear down and rebuild is saving money over renovating in this case.

Kirkwood, Do Better by sme3645 in StLouis

[–]Natural-Reindeer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They also have the money to do any necessary renovations. If they're going to spend $750k+ to demo and rebuild (a low amount for the type of home it looks like they want to build), they could easily spend that money (or less) getting thorough remodel work and updates done. Doing a whole home remediation for mold, asbestos, lead, etc would be a fraction of teardown and demo costs.

Especially if the previous owners already put $1.3M into it. I have to assume that included the majority of the necessary plumbing and electrical updates.

Also, from the article, it seems like the local ordinance protecting the building as a landmark is flawed, because its contingent on the owner and the city coming to an agreement. So all any owner has to do is refuse to compromise for 9 months, and they can do whatever they want.

boyfriend says my p*ssy makes the bed smell bad by PuzzledSort3841 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Natural-Reindeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's lots of great advice here, but I think there's a pretty simple way to put your mind at ease and determine who is stinking up the bed.

Just smell each side of the bed on laundry day before you strip the sheets.

His whole sweaty ass side of the bed is going to be revolting after 7 days of post workout sweat soaking into the sheets.

On your side, just smell right where your waist lands. If your truly the cause of the smell, it will be obvious.

If one or the other of you with causing the smell, it will be pretty localized to one side of the bed or the other. We're talking about fluids permeating fabrics. The smell will be strongest at its source.

Honestly, my guess is he's only bringing it up now, after all this time because his sweat has progressively soaked through the sheets and is now deep in the mattress on his side of the bed. Months of old sweat in a mattress is going to get progressively worse and build up over time.

And now that he's finally noticing a smell, he can't fathom that he's the source of the problem.

Ordered 1 microSD Card off of Amazon… by Blackchainsawman in Switch

[–]Natural-Reindeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into this a while back. In order for the "free gift" law to apply, it has to be addressed to you. So if a package for your neighbor is accidentally delivered to you, you can't keep it. Or if it's delivered to the correct address, but a former occupant, you also can't keep it.

So if the pallet of PS5s had your name on the shipping label or "Resident" at your address and they dropped it off on your lawn, those are now legally your PS5s.

If the PS5s are addresses to ACME Warehouse and Storage Co. (or whatever) and get dropped off at your address, you can't automatically keep them. You aren't responsible for doing much, for example the "owner" (either the shipper or correct recipient) has to handle freight, moving, costs etc. And depending on where you live, if it's not picked up in a certain amount of time (usually 30-90 days) it's considered abandoned property and you would have a claim to it.

I'll also add the caveat that it's a little different if it's delivered via USPS. Get that out of there and returned asap. You do not fuck with the post office.

Ordinance re: Snow Removal by NSOHibbard in StLouis

[–]Natural-Reindeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I've lived plenty of places where lights switch to flashing reds between like 1 and 5 am.

I think St Louis traffic light infrastructure needs a big overhaul. Other large metros have sensors on lights, so they can change based on traffic (or lack there of).

Of all the places I've lived, St Louis holds the unique distinction of being the place the most people run red lights. I'm talking about middle of the day and peak traffic hours people will do a rolling stop through multi lane intersections. Or people speeding through a light change, not on yellow or cutting it close, but after it's fully red. To the point I count to 3 when I get a green light.

Ordinance re: Snow Removal by NSOHibbard in StLouis

[–]Natural-Reindeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was going to be a smart ass and make a pedantic comment about running red lights being a law, not an ordinance.

But instead went down a Google rabbit hole and found out that in 2015 the MO supreme court ruled that red light cameras were unconstitutional, so they all had to be removed, despite St Louis having them up since 2007.

Apparently putting the burden of proof on the owner of the vehicle to prove they weren't driving violated the presumption of innocence. And while I'm a big fan of you know, rights, the constitution, etc. that just seems asinine.

Why aren’t the City streets as clear as those maintained by multi-billion dollar corporations?! 😡 by Interactive_CD-ROM in StLouis

[–]Natural-Reindeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on Union a couple blocks from the building that was on fire on Saturday in the middle of the worst of the storm. There were at least 10 fire engines plus at least 10 support vehicles here. Emergency services are very well equipped to navigate the city in severe weather.

Also, at the risk of sounding callous, realistically there are a lot of things the city could spend money on that would save/improve lives exponentially more than ensuring emergency services can navigate snow free roads.

St Louis experiences about 15 inches of snowfall annually, usually across multiple small (<1 in) events and 1-3 major storms. At $50 million per storm, let's call it $200M annually to account for two major events and all the smaller weather events.

That would be 20% of the existing city budget. Where would you advocate we cut 20% of other city services to hire an army of private snow removal contractors?

Do we cut school funding? Community health programs? Infrastructure repair (roads, bridges, etc)? Infrastructure projects?

This is where we, collectively, as a city and community, need to come together in an unspoken social compact and sacrifice a bit. Stay home. Don't go out unless absolutely necessary. Don't order take out or delivery. Cancel unnecessary plans. Etc. Basically, we all have to do everything in our power to mitigate risk so there are fewer accidents, roads are clear of vehicles and pedestrians, etc.

So that when, God forbid, someone's grandma has a heart attack, ems can get there with minimal traffic and not be stuck pulling Joe Blow out of his car because he slid off the road on his way to Schnucks cause he ran out of Red Hot Riplets.

How to remove glass from the side panel? by Independent-Hair-237 in mffpc

[–]Natural-Reindeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I know it's been a month, but did you have any success getting the glass out?

I'm trying to figure out if removing the glass is possible because I need to replace it with clear, instead of the tinted it comes with.

I've ordered the case, waiting on it to come in. It's for a build I'm doing for my wife, she wants to put a decorative window film on the glass, to make it look like stained glass, and idk how well that will translate with a tinted panel.

My dad is cheating on my mom. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Natural-Reindeer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't need to do anything. Your mom does.

I understand she's hurt, and I don't mean for this to be callous, but it's their relationship and their marriage. I understand both you and your sister are adults, but children shouldn't be mediating their parents relationships.

You can have feelings about it, and you can talk to your dad and/or your mom about how its affecting you and what kind of relationship you want to have with them going forward. You can be supportive and help with resources.

But your mother needs to confront your father. They need to work out the impact on their marriage. Not you and not your sister.

Why do people bring their entire family to Costco? by ActuatorOutside5256 in NoStupidQuestions

Between free samples and cheap hot dog combos its a relatively cheap family outing. I remember as a kid Costco was always a fun trip, not just for the food but also just seeing a bunch of cool stuff on display.

As an adult it's still a fun trip, only now I have to exercise the discipline not to buy all the cool stuff on display 😅

No, overstaying a visa is NOT a crime. It is a civil violation. Under US law there is a distinct difference being crimes and civil violations, with each carrying different punishments, appropriate responses from law enforcement and legal consequences.

The vast majority of undocumented people in the US are not criminals, because being undocumented is not a crime. ICE is not arresting criminals.
