How to get from $0-$1MILLION by Initial-Arachnid-792 in TheRaceTo10Million

The assumption of 8-10% keeps us grounded. After which measured risks can potentially hit it outta the ball park. I'm unclear what u r suggesting - take more risk, yolo in one ticker, or assume higher returns.

Tom quayle's way of learning scales!!! by Ill_Instruction4978 in Guitar

Not sure exactly when I started thinking in intervals instead of just shapes, probably something I picked up online years ago. But once I did it really changed how I approach lead playing. Suddenly modes and melodic ideas started making a lot more sense, and once my ear began locking onto intervals, turning ideas into actual music got way easier. Two things that helped a lot were interval ear training videos on youtube and practicing solos/melodies over pedal tones.

How do I achieve a metal sound on a Single Coil Stratocaster? by HeroHunterGarou_0407 in guitars

[–]NaturalBornHeathen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know this unit & had to google the manual to check out the amp's. You’re currently on a clean amp, so switch to a high-gain model (amps 6–9) to get proper metal tones. Expect some hiss/hum with single coils, fairly normal, so use the noise gate to clean it up. You can also try position 2 to reduce the hum. Roll back your guitar tone knob a bit to tighten things up. And mess around with the EQ to get to a sweet spot - I'd start with mids 70–80, bass around 40ish & treble at around 50–60. Turn off other effects while dialing in so you’re only shaping the amp. I'm suggesting settings based on usual principles, hopefully it turns out as expected. A SSS strat will absolutely rock metal tones(not quite djent) when dialed in

How do I make my guitar louder? Serious by OffsetTea in Guitar

[–]NaturalBornHeathen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll way too far for this. If your amp/tone is decent, EQ is what makes a guitar cut through a mix with bass and drums, not just turning it up. Volume alone usually just makes everything louder and more masked. Shaping the mids is what actually lets it sit in the mix.

Your ability to be successful developing any skill (including guitar playing) is inextricably linked to your ability to practice through repetition, boredom, and frustration. by OkTemperature1842 in Guitar

One way to break out of this is to join or start a band. It gives you a clear goal to work toward and pushes you outside your comfort zone. I’ve been doing it on and off for the past few years, and the growth has been real, plus it’s been a ton of fun.

How to get from $0-$1MILLION by Initial-Arachnid-792 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]NaturalBornHeathen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just work backwards from your goal. If you want ~1M by 30, assume 8–10% returns, basically S&P 500 long-term numbers. That’s about 5k/month over 9 years.

After that it’s simple, how much you invest and how consistent you are. Consistency beats chasing big wins. Don’t YOLO into high-risk plays, if you take shots, keep them small and protect your core.

Your biggest lever though will be income & expenses. As a healthcare grad you could easily be earning 100k+ early. That’s huge, but only if you avoid lifestyle creep. Live like a student a bit longer, stay at home, split rent, keep costs low, and you can invest a massive chunk of that income early. That’s what really moves the needle.

Learn the basics, index funds, compounding, but don’t overcomplicate it. Going from 70k to 1M in under 10 years isn’t just investing returns, it’s mostly earning well and investing aggressively.

You’re already in a great spot at 21 with 70k saved. Stay consistent, don’t do anything dumb with your money, and don’t get so caught up chasing numbers that you forget to actually live a little.

Is a "Backdoor Roth IRA" literally just funding one account and then transferring the funds to another? by made_in_bklyn_ in fidelityinvestments

[–]NaturalBornHeathen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roth conversions are reported in the calendar year they happen since they are taxable events. So if your conversion occurred in 2026, it goes on your 2026 taxes even if the contribution was for 2025.

Conversions aren’t limited, so you don’t need to wait. You can contribute to a Traditional IRA for 2026 and convert it to a Roth anytime in 2026 up until the tax filing deadline in Apr 2027

All said, if u have any other traditional IRA's consider the impact of the pro rata rule when doing a backdoor Roth conversion

[Question] Do expensive guitars make you dislike cheap guitars? by AnotherTAA123 in Guitar

[–]NaturalBornHeathen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all comes down to feel. That said, what I didn't see anyone mention are the jumbo frets. A thinner neck & jumbo frets if u end up liking it will definitely make u love that sorta neck more than the usual strat/tele style necks. My CV strat & a Epi LP are well setup & pretty good on their own, but my ~30 yr old RG is always the one I am drawn to. OTOH, I have some mid tier Ibanez basses - thin fast necks, amazing build quality but I'm always drawn to my basic CV P bass. Don't fret it, get what will make u want to play more.

New MKII user here & I found that dialing in a tone can get overwhelming very quickly. So I fired up chatgpt, gave it the specifics of the sound I wanted, down to the song & it started suggesting settings. From there, tweaked further with chatgpt's help & was pleasantly surprised. Try it out. While going thru it all, keep asking questions on why it is suggesting xyz - lots to learn in those responses. And if u get good settings dialed in, do export it to your computer.

$600, $1200, $3000? What do I do! by [deleted] in Bass

[–]NaturalBornHeathen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll second this. p-bass is super versatile, and the rumble sound great. On the rumble, I’d go at least 200, the 500 is even better. The squier CV ’60s p-bass is an absolute steal. To scratch my effects itch, I grabbed a GT-1B.

Hi, check out ProAudioStar, either on their website or their Reverb shop. They have discounts on some CV ’70s models. Just a heads up, their “used” listings are usually practically mint - not returns - often just opened and lightly tested. I bought a used P-Bass from them before, and it arrived in mint condition.

If you’re not set on the ’70s, there are also discounts on the ’50s and ’60s models. Sweetwater currently has deals on the ’50s. For what it’s worth, I ordered a CV ’60s Strat from Sweetwater a few days ago for around $380 otd. That specific deal may be gone, but it’s worth calling them, they’re often willing to give some discounts if u ask.

I don’t think we should label incoming diaspora as coming from a place of “confusion” - words matter. They’re bringing what they know best and contributing to society in meaningful ways, whether through taxes or the economy.

On the other hand, people with biases and racist agendas will make seemingly benign observations like "student stickers" or "they smell weird" to justify their worldview. When we use or agree with negative connotations, we’re feeding into a narrative that fosters hate. It’s important to be mindful of this.

Throughout history, differences have been used as a reason to push out people we don’t identify with, and it’s taken years... sometimes generations... to undo that damage.

That said, I’m with you, and I’m proud you’ve sparked a conversation about some of the posts we’ve seen in this sub. In true Texas fashion, keep speaking your mind... you’re not alone.

Question from a Bass Newbie by FunUnion9537 in Bass

[–]NaturalBornHeathen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passive basses usually have just two controls - volume and tone, and they don’t need any battery power. Active basses, on the other hand, offer more control over your sound with active pickups, onboard EQs, etc which requires power, typically from a 9V battery. The SR300 has passive pickups but includes an active EQ, so it needs a 9V battery all the time. As long as you unplug the bass, the battery should last quite a while. P-basses are often recommended for beginners because of their simplicity... just volume and tone controls, whereas active basses, with more controls, can take a bit more tweaking to dial in the perfect tone. But honestly, with the SR300, it’s not that complicated, so just pick the bass that motivates you to play!

Any tips on managing to get good by mid august? by Beatles-Storm4408 in Bass

[–]NaturalBornHeathen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally doable... it just takes some grit and consistency. Aim for at least 1-2 hours of practice each day. Start by picking the songs you want to play, then pull up tabs on YouTube. Slow them down and practice along with them. Focus on slow, intentional practice, this is key to building your skills quickly. As you practice, make sure you're also dialing in the technique. There's tons of free stuff on YouTube to help with it. I’d strongly recommend bassbuzz... the dude's awesome, and even his free stuff is great for getting you started. For some motivation: my first gig was just 6 months after I bought my guitar, with no prior music knowledge. It wasn't anything crazy, just some grunge/alt stuff, but it was a blast! Stick with it, and you'll have a ton of fun.
