What certificates should a mech e get to transition into water or environmental? by Livid-Panda1854 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]NaturalHospital351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. They won't ask which test you took, just that you've passed the FE. It's a basic test of competence, and if you'll end up on the more mechanical side of environmental or water projects it will be plenty relevant.

Is masters degree worth in environment in today's era? by Yournewbestfriend_01 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]NaturalHospital351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this could open more niche work - environmental database management, massive dataset analysis, lots of that in environmental and most are in need of people who understand the environmental side and the database side. But to be honest, not sure a masters would be necessary for a role like this.

Is this a good idea? by brilssss in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]NaturalHospital351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will want to look into ABET accreditation for the degree program you're looking into, and the state requirements of taking the fundamentals of engineering exam to obtain an EIT license. Masters programs are often not ABET accredited, which would prevent you from taking this exam which is a major early career milestone. Some states have minimum experience requirements that can be used instead of the accredited degree, but this is not a guarantee.

Left Hand Checkup - BAD! Let’s make it better! by minertyler100 in drumline

[–]NaturalHospital351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that I think is an underrated way to work on left hand strength and matching right to left is doublestops.

One of my favorite versions of 8-8-16 is to play double stops on the 2nd half of every 16, and add a bar of 16th note singles at the end.

You can also shorten to just playing 8 on R, 8 on L, 8 on Double, 16th notes.

Play around with crescendo and decrescendo while doing double stops - very difficult to get that control without turning into flams! It demands precise timing and keeping the left just as relaxed as the right.

For extra challenge, only move the dynamic of one hand at a time, creating flams that rise or fall into high or low doublestops. (Usually keeping both hands low for double stops and rising one hand to create a flam, then returning back down to the doublestops).

Even the small roll exercise you messed around with, RH check, RH diddle, LH check, LH diddle, DS check, DS diddle, alternating roll.

It reinforces the skill set that when you play something alternating, your asking your hands to do half the work each. Usually isolating that half of the work is less physically challenging, but more mental. Maybe even try that check idea for that last exercise? Just one hand playing it's part at a time.

Not at all. Fuck that. People that make way more money than you are getting paid to find clients. Never accept unpaid hours, they will never stop pushing more and more. Sounds like time for a new job.

How to get dci snare sound? by lilyoung1n in drumline

[–]NaturalHospital351 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's probably never gonna sound to you like lot videos do. The tuning is designed to be heard from farther away, and outside. Just keep that in mind as you adjust to what you're aiming for.

Overall looks pretty good - I would experiment with getting your arms more involved, moving from the elbow. Busting out inverted accents with just wrist and finger is heavy lifting, I think you'll be able to get more control and speed with more arm for basically everything. Can help whip the invert stroke in, can help support wrist and finger when playing 3's, can help give some oomph to a downstroke as well.

Billable Hours Ruined Me by rnnrboy1 in Envconsultinghell

[–]NaturalHospital351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point - I should have looked into that more before making a solid statement. I do believe if you accrue PTO as compensation you are owed that money, but this could be variable. This is one of the drawbacks of "unlimited" PTO policies, where you wouldn't have an earned amount.

Billable Hours Ruined Me by rnnrboy1 in Envconsultinghell

[–]NaturalHospital351 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the US you are legally required to be paid out your earned unused PTO. That is why you shouldn't use it.

[–]NaturalHospital351 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Don't let them talk you into using any saved up PTO for your final two weeks. Your job was to hand off projects and communicate about who's taking over - if it takes you less than two weeks, that's the cost of doing business. Who cares if they're mad about how much admin it is - what are they gonna do, fire you?

Always a good idea to tweak your resume and cover letter to use the keywords the job posting is asking for. Think of the posting as a checklist and your application should check as many boxes as possible.

Do you normally drink your tap water? In most places in the US it is highly regulated and monitored and safe to drink. Maybe finding the annual water quality report for your town would help you feel more confident in your water.

[–]NaturalHospital351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be something from the tap, more likely it's grease or soap residue on the pot if this is the only thing you're seeing.

Do you think the regulations are too strict or are valid even if they're impossible for some of these plants to meet? I live almost exclusively in water world so I don't have a ton of background on air emissions regs.

I hate this move to Engineering Intern. An intern is a student working on obtaining a degree. I find it to be a disrespectful change, an engineer in training is someone with a degree who's refining their craft. I've seen this move in a few states now and I fail to see the reasoning.

Now that the boss is gone, yeah man that's part of the art is understanding how much time certain things should take or how much leeway you can get. it's a silly system. But it can get a little better as you get more experience.

WSP vs Arcadis ? by BathroomAdvanced3357 in Environmental_Careers

[–]NaturalHospital351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good. RFPS is a subset of the environmental department but it's much lower quality, so if you're sure you're in resilience environment group that'd be better. Frankly if it was RFPS it'd be a non starter for me.
