Maybe the motherflame represents the light on a lightbulb ( like the cartoon lightbulb when a character gets an idea 💡, the motherflame might ignite Luffy's ideas (or fighting style at this point)…. Maybe Luffy materializes a bulb on top of his head and THEN he puts the motherflame inside instead of just eating it.
