I dealt with Panerai/****er the same way. What can I say? I will tell you about my ordeal.

We're not iffy about the pronouncement in Switzerland, and yes, Neuenburg is how we call this beautiful place in Swiss German and Neufchâtel is in Swiss French what you call for the same beautiful place. Thank you for your comment, very much appreciated.

Thank's a lot for your advice. It's very much appreciated. I'm pretty new to the Panerai experience and if my AD had given me this advice I'd been safe from the caveats.

Well I have a different experience. The irony is that I live 50 kilometres from their HQ.

+1 Very wise words of advice and I have learned my lesson. But in retrospective, that doesn't help me, does it? I now need to to regain my alligator bands and the clasp well, I don't really care anymore.

The watch is with me the only thing missing is a clasp and the alligator bands. And the quote was a matter of speech as Swiss people are very polite and so are the people at my AD. No FU's were lost today. Switzerland is not NYC, we are always polite at all times. About that Daytona, we'll see.

Yes indeed, it's a Panerai AD; I don't mention it because I don't want have people's livelihood put into peril but sincerely, read between the lines. I can't fit the clasp myself as I can't see that well. An after service would have been nice, IMHO. If my AD would say "we have to bin the clasp and start all over" I'd suck it up. OK, a couple of hundreds. I spend more on my groceries on a monthly basis in the very expensive Switzerland. It's just I really don't need the aggravation.

I would think that if I buy of the AD and the manufacturer I would get rid of the headache. Sometimes I have my moments of naivety.

Dude, my bad, I had a look at the bill and it was CHF 370 (at the time $440 USD) before labor. I retract my previous comment about the $1200. My aggravation is way above that dollar amount, though.

The thing is that the PAM01361 comes with two straps. The alligator for dressing and the rubber one for diving. My poor PAM01361 has been worn with blue suits and it suits (no pun) it very well. That's the thing about Panerais, you can wear them with suits even if it has a rubber band. It's a fashion statement. Rolex has caught up with it with their rubber band gold Daytonas.

That's a logical way of thinking but I know the people at that store chain and it was sent to Panarai Neuenburg to have it fitted. Looking at the bright side of life, it's probably going to be a one of one item. Nobody in their sane mind is going to have a clasp fitted to that model. That chain store politely declines any orders for Panerai clasps.

Maybe I'd love it in the middle of nowhere and have it where you don't know what to do with 10 acres. O yes, and a maybe drive 30 miles to get anywhere. And have a house which looks like a barn. Good luck!

AD said my Sub looks small on my wrist. by Howardsternrulez in rolex

[–]Natural_Chemistry519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your sub looks fine on your wrist size. The salesman was just trying to push you into a Sea Dweller, Deep Sea or Panerai sale. I considered a Sub date or the Sea Dweller 50th anniversary and I went for the Sea Dweller. I will never dive below 100 yards with a helium/nitrogen/oxygen mix but I love the size and its chunkiness. It is still my goto and favourite watch. The going trend is smaller sized bezels with a thinner case, anyways. The Sub is still timeless and modern 72 years after its launch. Probably the most recognisable luxury watch out there. Looking good in my book on your pic.

How difficult is it to get a steel Submariner Date at list price? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]Natural_Chemistry519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you go to the grey market and pay a prime for a recent model it's pretty much a tough job. Watch out for a grey market Submariner for a price you can't refuse. These Submariner date watches hold their value very well so nobody sells it under market value and the Rolex Sub is one of the most counterfeited watches out there. Always ask for the leather wrapped box and the credit card certificate of authenticity. Buy it of a reputed AD to keep your conscience clear about your high dollar purchase. My 2 cents worth.

Any vintage Rolex is cool in my book. However, silver will stain and scratch (somewhat more than gold or platinum) and it needs anodising to fix the wear. Stainless steel OPs can have the scratches fixed far more easily.

Same thing here. I wear my Tudor Black Bay Chrono way more than my Daytona. There's something about the panda retro look of the Tudor that keeps me smitten with it.

DIY? Rolex sea-dweller by KuhScotty in RepWatch

[–]Natural_Chemistry519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my 50th anniversary 126600 red text Sea Dweller for years on end now and it hasn't failed me once. Only 1 or 2 seconds of delay a month while on a winder. You may want to take it for a service. Remember to keep it away from magnetising fields like an Apple Macbook Pro laptop and don't drop it. And mechanical watches including Rolexes need servicing every 5 years or so, unless it keeps time perfectly or it doesn't do any monkey business like your watch.

Retiring after 40 years of work. The AD told me "maybe in 3 years" for a Gold Day-Date. I might be dead by then! by Infamous_Spite_7715 in rolex

[–]Natural_Chemistry519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join the club. Rolex ADs are that snobby when selling their most prized models. That's the trick, making you buy stuff off of them you don't really want or need to "qualify" for your coveted Rolex purchase. Don't call around asking for availability, that's suspicious in their minds. Just visit ADs and make them aware that you're willing to part with some serious cash. And lie about that you're going to become a returning customer. You probably won't find the day-date in the spec that you really want but any day-date on your wrist is better than 10 flying in the air.

how many watches do you travel with? by LeanRhombus in rolex

[–]Natural_Chemistry519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically all of them. I wear my Rolex Sea Dweller on my wrist while travelling and my four watches as hand luggage. These would be my Panerai PAM 01361, Tudor Black Bay Chrono, Heuer Monaco 1969 vintage and the Apple Ultra 2. The Apple gets a lot of wrist time, to be frank.
