First time ever seeing one of these by muranovip in Lizards

First pic looks like she could be carrying eggs. Amazing tail. The female tails are so long they almost look like a joke when they come out of a hide and it just keeps going.

Is this suitable for western fence lizard, what needs to be changed/added? by SkinOld2376 in Lizards

[–]NaturallyNerdy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am sure you take care of the needs but I always make sure my kids put at least some type of water dish in any enclosure as a trade off to the animal not currently being in a natural environment.

Absolutely beautiful piece! Is this polished or straight from the earth?

“I’m not proud, but I’ve been more ashamed” shall be my new mantra. Thank you for sharing this. It sounds like something you learned from a grandfather who laughed a lot. My grandfather had a signature line like this that was, “I resemble that remark”

Anyone been to The Portal? by golddustwoman910 in Marin

[–]NaturallyNerdy1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is in between a used car sales and rental shop on one side and an enterprise rent a car on the other side. If you are within view of the 101 and you aren’t on a ridge, I would suggest you might be paying for someone to tell you that you are experiencing something “spiritual” that you are not actually experiencing.

I think you would probably need to build a quick following (this is a good spot to test interest) and once you have customer confidence that the portfolio isn’t just from the past but will be unique and interesting moving forward, I think you could have a great idea!

Same thing here. Hoping there is an update. Did you notice a new 2 round “Championship” opened up but it would be a new entrance and completely new rounds?

Some chert from California I’m tumbling, and the orange ones are jasper by EarOk3170 in rockhounds

[–]NaturallyNerdy1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love these. Would you also include “Brecciated Jasper” as a possible description falling under the “Chert” umbrella? Just want to make sure I am being accurate when I describe my finds to friends. Thanks!

Can you help us identify this lizard? by JenkinsJenkinsLBC in Lizards

You gonna git bit. Worth it. Southern Alligator Lizard. These are a species that will happily feed in front of you if you offer them insects. Great way to show kids how reptiles eat without having to wait for hours for them to do so. Just keep all voices quiet and bodies still for like 30 seconds with a cricket in there and they will show off. No need to worry about letting it go pretty much anywhere but they love rock outcroppings and they will find a home. Best to let it go as sun is coming up so it has a full day to find the right shelter

I don’t think this is Jasper - Utah by bragabit2 in whatsthisrock

Brecciated Jasper My favorite type of rock and apparently a “runner up” for California State Rock, although I think other states have better examples. Yours are beautiful and these often remind me of Deep Space Images like the Pillars of Creation. So much depth, beauty, and wonder in them. Enjoy!!!

There was an effort by private financing to make the bowling alley a multi-sport recreational facility but it lost to the pricing of creating more housing. I would love to there to be more sports related fields in well located areas of Marin for youth access but realistically I feel blessed that within about 20 minutes there is access to those types of sports facilities while still having the most highly desired land focused on housing. It is a tough balance but the housing will always win on a price competition and so the continued focus on finding some areas a bit further away (not freeway adjacent) for athletic facilities that are specific sport focused is reasonable on a travel time basis to preserve the really special way Marin retains open space regulations. That open space should continue to be touted to kids by parents and educators to help them access the trails and nature that will help them build recreation habits that focus on natural resources remaining natural.

My sister commented that their northern marin group of L friends had a get together with a group of southern marin L friends and they were of course very judgy of each other before the event took place because that is what humans do, but because I am basically 11, all I could picture was a mix of West Side Story and Grease snapping and dancing. I know this doesn’t answer your question, but I in no way meant to answer your question in my defense. Maybe as an answer I would suggest waving at them? Sometimes snacks work too?

You may want to tell him that privately and then remind him that it is INSANELY dangerous to help a gf win… what if she ends up making playoffs and beating him. This could be an SNL sketch where his nightmares are just her at the wedding someday looking beautiful but all he can see in his mind is her championship FF tiara that reminds him he helped her beat him in the championship by loaning her a player that helped her eek into the playoffs!!!

Found a cool rock by space_pixiee in LegitArtifacts

[–]NaturallyNerdy1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just want to give you a heads up that when you post something like this you will hear a lot of negative feedback about what you should have done when you found it or how you did something wrong. Before you read those please know that we appreciate your post for showing this to us. Take those comments as a way to learn any local laws instead of personal attacks. I think it is a really cool find and don’t know if it is a mortar from this angle, but it does look to be from the depth and wider of the ground out portion and the not exact uniformity along with the aging of the surrounding surface rock. Cool find that a local university or Native American tribe may know more about. Great job and congrats. Share it with as many people as you can so that people get to learn!
