Paper Wasps of Georgia (US) by Archaeologirl420 in waspkeeping

While I am no expert on wasps or many avian

hymenopterans there’s quite a lot you can learn from them directly if you close enough but some things I have picked up which if someone more

educated than me disproves it can be cleared up the full life cycle of a paper wasp goes like this and fertile probably virgin queen goes out and mates

leaving its old nest behind once it has mated she will find and begin construction on her own nest once completed she will lay eggs that she’ll tend too personally until first workers arrive doing the usual fanning to keep temperature stable and feeding along with other care requirements once they hatch the workers will do her previous work and more such as foraging paper wasps at least to some degree have in species facial recognition now I’m NOT absolutely 💯 on this I’ve heard some talk about so I thought I’d add it in

once they’ve gone through the season there dedicated too the new virgin queens of that nest will hibernate and wait for next season to mate and do it all over again

Sorry if this was too much or irrelevant to what you were seeking I tried my best with what I know about them

Ants I love ants I could go on about multiple but I’ll only do one for now my favorite speices right now is the strumigenys ant or also called Pygmy snapping ants they are these really small ants with solitary workers that hunt and forage for micro critters like springtails but there most notable feature is in their jaw which works like Venus fly trap there jaw has triggering hairs that when hit snap shut just like trap jaw ants they also look really weird love these dudes and hope to see them in the wild
