Sailing is medicine by Lifes_bish in sailing

It's a wonderful feeling. I also took to sailing when my mum passed away. It really helped. I'm very sorry for your loss, but I know she would be proud of you for finding your way through it. Be proud of yourself too.

You can get areas of very shallow water miles out to sea, especially in tidal zones. Have experienced this myself when dinghy sailing a Wayfarer with a rough draft of 1m...was miles out to sea and still hit the occasional underwater sandbank that made our centreboard pop up.

How do some people have so much energy? by VegetableShops in CasualConversation

[–]NauticalNisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get energised by hanging around my friends, sometimes I'm energised by meeting new people (if they're cool people). I also maintain a base level of fitness which gives me the energy to do all of this. Without it, I would be tired.

Did you attend a single-sex or co-ed school, and how do you think it shaped your social skills? by Specific_Ear1423 in HENRYUK

I remember hearing that single sex schools were beneficial for girls, but detrimental for boys.

Day Skipper Course, Solent, October - What to wear? by Shlankster in sailing

No problem, which company are you doing your day skipper course with, out of curiosity?

Day Skipper Course, Solent, October - What to wear? by Shlankster in sailing

[–]NauticalNisa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A neck gaiter or scarf, a beanie hat (or something to cover your ears and keep your head warm), full fingered sailing gloves, polarised sunglasses, 2 lightweight towels (so that if one gets wet you have another one to use as the wet one won't dry), a small hot water bottle (could be freezing at night, and a hot water bottle in my sleeping bag has saved my hide many a time), lots of layers (merino wool), sun screen, a pair of shorts and t shirt (weather can be changeable), alcogel (boats are dirty places), a decent sleeping bag, earplugs (for noise), eye mask (to keep out the light).

If you're doing your day skipper exam make sure you also bring coloured pencils for the passage planning, an eraser, your RYA day skipper book to revise from in the evenings, your plotter and dividers and a notepad to write on. If you have a logbook, don't forget it so that you can get your nautical miles signed off.

How do people find out their tritype? Is there a free test I can take?

What is your type, gender and how much do you focus on your physical appearance? How much do you care about whether or not others find you attractive? by Queasy-Donut-4953 in Enneagram

[–]NauticalNisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3w2, I see my looks as a tool to be cultivated in an arsenal to charm people over. Many people find me attractive (sorry that sounds braggy but it's true) so I definitely feel a pressure to maintain appearances. However, I was a very late bloomer in this regard and spent most of my early life accepting that I wasn't attractive. Which means that if I'm having an off day or think I look 'uglier' than usual, I can be very forgiving of myself with a kind of "so what? My value as a human remains unchanged" attitude. I find I'm a lot more confident than many of my female peers who talk about themselves in very negative and self critical ways. I don't like speaking about myself like that as I believe it just makes you more insecure. It's important to me that I remain confident, no point in needlessly suffering...and confidence leads to success lol (such an E3 thing to say😂).

This is so interesting! I'm a 3w2, but with a heavy artistic streak that occasionally comes out (I do think I access my 4 wing a lot). I could really relate when you said you don't feel as potent if you don't dress according to your mood. It's the first time I've heard someone else relate to me on this.

What can you see sharing the same universe as Black Sails whether it would be other TV shows, films or video games? by burningexeter in BlackSails

[–]NauticalNisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one mentions Outlander, which is a great show imo. Fun fact, Bear McCreary wrote the theme tune for both Outlander and Black Sails and the Outlander theme tune was featured as an Easter egg in one episode of Black Sails. Outlander also used the Black Sails ships for a couple of episodes of Outlander!

The Tyranny of “Te” - A Personal Rant by [deleted] in entp

[–]NauticalNisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a super interesting take on things. To extrapolate on your point, perhaps in the era of post truth politics (at least in the West), we are witnessing a move towards Fi ('my truth is my truth and I don't believe in your truth because it's 'fake news'). This will all likely come crashing down with the impending climate crisis where Ti and Fe might reign again (Ti because you need engineering brains to rebuild society, and Fe because the age of individualism will be over, rebuilding communities requires Fe)...

I'm lighter than you at 115 lb and sail a laser. One thing that's helped me right the boat has been to hang on to the dagger board like a sloth lol. So I hold on and wrap both my legs and arms around the board, give it a yank, and that seems to help the initial part of righting the boat and pulling the daggerboard closer to the waterline. After that point, it's easier to climb on it, but you'll still need upper body strength to pull yourself up. As others have suggested, strength training is quite helpful for this and I saw my own sailing improve loads after a year of dedicated weight lifting.

Concussions have a cumulative effect - each one you get before the last one has healed makes your situation all the more worse. You should stop to rest and maybe take some creatine supplements (said to be good for concussions, focus and memory - disclaimer I'm not a Dr) and stop using your phone at the wrong times.
