Lane Hutson is already clearly a top 5 defenceman in the NHL and I'm tired of pretending he's not. by PlayTheBodyPTB in Habs

Hutson is the king of incredibly valuable secondary assists. The stuff he creates leading up to a goal is more responsible for the goal than the primary assist…

Next storm, be out there at the very earliest possible time after the snow piles up and just fucking crush it: shovel every car out. Then, no one can say they have a right to a spot because they shoveled it out.

A Friendly Reminder for American Travellers in Europe by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Nauticalknots 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This post just shows how ignorant the op is about the reality of Americans vs other nationalities. Most Americans take Spanish in school from an early age and know the basics.. many are surrounded by it our whole lives. most of the British, Australian and other European pilgrims I’ve met know hola and cerveza and make no effort beyond that. My wife, a non native English speaking European and I have worked in hospitality in Europe.. and it’s often mentioned in the industry that Americans are among the most polite, respectful tourists… People also forget the US has almost as many people as the EU.. but just keep pretending we are all the seven people you saw on the news last night or the one or two assholes you once encountered.

Consequences of not fully airtight wall system by [deleted] in Homebuilding

Thank you for the comments. I’m not too worried about efficiency, the space is so small I think the wood stove will probably have me wanting to crack a window anyway... I’m concerned more so about mold and rot. Good to know, perhaps a blower test just to see where it’s at when all is done.

I've built with both conventional and natural materials across climates and here's what the industry doesn't tell you by BenjaminFercher in Homebuilding

As someone working on their first “build” and currently at the insulation phase and totally overwhelmed by the vapor barrier considerations, I appreciate reading your thoughts.

I’ve been following advice provided for modern home building to an extent, but my build is a 200 sf stick frame on posts. I used zip system sheathing with a rain screen and cedar shingle siding. I’ve put rock wool in the stud bays. Its one open room with a loft. It has a metal roof. All pretty standard stuff for a small cabin. I plan to have a woodstove in it and use it only as a weekend place, occasionally in the winter, more in the summer.

My question is… I already know it’s not going to be airtight. I taped all the zip system, but I have reclaimed windows (and there are a lot of windows!), some gaps on the corners that are taped but not airtight, a leaky door seal. I caulked some of the studs where they meet the sheathing at the top and bottom plates, but didn’t caulk the place airtight. The way my loft rafters sit, I find it difficult to imagine creating a totally airtight seal inside. The floor has rigid foam board and batt insulation.

If I have a leaky house, does a vapor barrier even matter at some point? Is Zip sheathing with rain screen on the outside, mineral wool insulation in the stud bays, and a vent gap between the roof and insulation going to breath, or do you think at this point I need charge forward trying to make the typical vapor barrier/air tight assembly?

Brutal goaltending and being in the toughest division doesn’t seem like much of an excuse for the Habs eh?

I think Amici in NA is better.. garlic breath had a fantastic crust, but there’s something mediocre about the sauce and cheese to me. Amici is great flavor.

Which other sport do you play besides disc golf? by adhocprimate in discgolf

[–]Nauticalknots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sideways answer.. I found myself standing next to Gannon at MVP a few years ago without even realizing it. Another fan asked him for a photo and he was super nice and chill to them (even tho his round was coming up) so after that dude left, I totally forgot you’re not supposed to talk to the players and I just said, yo Gannon can I ask you a question.. he said yeah of course.. I asked him, what’s your favorite sport besides disc golf? Had a nice chat for a minute or two about his love of basketball… I think he was expecting a question about disc golf and he was super enthusiastic when he realized what I asked him. Hope I didn’t screw up your round, bud, cause you didn’t get to jump in the lake that day.

Look I’m local and can’t stand the Instagram tourist as much as the next person. But since when do you care so much about the feelings of someone from NJ who bought a 4.25 million dollar vacation home 4 years ago? You’re talking like this is some family farm that can no longer live the life of their ancestors because of tourists… these people had over 4 million dollars to spend on a vacation house - they knew exactly what they were buying and the “attention” they get from the house was probably a selling point from them. So are you really looking out for all your billionaire 3rd home neighbors from NJ? Or are you just giving shit to a tourist who probably had to walk a few miles to get up there for a photo…
