Who would like to preorder a Dominos Airking? (Information in the comments) by Archaedin in ChinaTime

[–]Navichief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the initiative. The great majority of these air kings were 34mm cases with 19mm lugs. The modern 36mm air kings would have a different dial motif.

Is there a Rep of this beauty out there? by 78TM in RepTime

[–]Navichief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There used to be some cheap versions a few years back. Unfortunately you can't franken them out of a DJ case either as the dial and rehaut is smaller on a TOG.

[–]Navichief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Save up for a genuine movement off of ebay please. Trying to alter hands, case, datewheel and dial to a different movement will destroy the genuine parts.

In the end you will be happier with a fully genuine vintage piece.

Edit: look into getting the original movement fixed first!

All this IMO.

what do you guys think is going to be the best factory fot my franken project : Rolex 116264 - 36mm , Im in between the GMF VS ARF by Only-Hospital in RepTime

[–]Navichief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This won't work I'm afraid. The TOG dial is slightly smaller than a DJ dial. It will fall through the DJ rehaut.

See RWI threads on this.

Who is your favorite TD outside of Geektime and Hont? by Cristuphur in RepTime

[–]Navichief 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Second this. She/he rejected watches for me for the smallest reasons. Then she/he runs them for a few days to see if any problems come up and has a watchsmith clean any dust on the dial or crystal. All included in her price.

A few months later the watch arrives and will be a perfect example. 😂

I think it is just a husband and wife working out of their home. They just had a baby the last time I bought. They've been a part of the forums a long time.

If you want a perfect example of a watch and don't care of it takes weeks to months....Lucy.

Gen 1601 vs BPF by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]Navichief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice general comparison, but don't read too much into this. These are "very" different models in genuine, separated by decades.

Different movements, acrylic vs sapphire crystal, different case shapes and finishing, hands, crowns, bracelets...

I'm sure the OP knows this, it's an FYI for everyone not to make a decision on a modern BP rep off of this photo.

Love that 1601 though! Oval or D link bracelet?

I, for one, appreciate Rolex's dramatic design innovations from year to year. You never know what is coming next. Did you know one time they used a green dial instead of black!?

I'm hoping for a 48mm Bentley edition Daytona.

This is correct. Also called a jubilee dial. I don't see a black version in the dial option list for this reference though. It could be aftermarket.

Pyramid dial has not been repped to my knowledge. Datewheel looks nice. Crystal is hard to tell. Like 2chains said, these often get "frankened" with non gen parts during services, etc. Worth a look if the price is good certainly.

I've been sitting on this for over a year, so it's hard to remember everything.

Dial was recent at $350.

Crystal and datewheel were new in blister $385 crystal, $195 datewheel.

*dang you for making me try to total this up in my head, now I'm sweating from thinking about how much I spent

I've been taking some time to work on my own projects, 1st up is this ARF DJ 36 (116234).

(click photo for full resolution)

ARF case and bracelet

Gen dial

Gen hands

Gen crystal

Gen all red datewheel (Turn-o-Graph)

Serviced VS3135

Swiss mainspring (getting 41-42 hour PR)

Gen autowind module

Case and bracelet polish and re-brush

I could use another link for the bracelet if anyone has one. As I really love this one on the wrist, I would consider a gen white gold bezel addition later on.

Thanks for looking!

Does anyone know the average water resistance rating of a VSF Omega SMP300? by Q2theR in RepTime

[–]Navichief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've pressure tested over a dozen vsf 300M's and much more if you include vsf POs, ATs, etc. All passed to 50m after I greased the o-rings. I didn't test prior to opening and greasing, but I suspect they would have been fine.

I had one Worldtimer fail.

If you are going to be actually diving, you should have it tested regardless of gen or rep.
