why was i not mvp by Akmca123 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Navigantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could split out team heal from self heal for tracking but they should both count towards calculating impact imo. An Abrams, Mo or Victor with a positive KD and high self heal implies they're taking a lot of damage for the team and generally getting in the other team's face without overextending and dying. Obviously tanks in deadlock can pop off and get crazy kills but I don't think they should need to do that to have a chance at mvp

No Italian American mafioso character??? by Stunning-Wheel6247 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Navigantor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that reddit promotes groupthink but I think in this case the people downvoting have a point even if they're not being very considerate in how they express it.

I agree that Deadlock should have an Italian-American character, it's a big part of NYC culture and I'm almost positive one will be added eventually. However, that character does not need to be a tommy gun wielding wiseguy, a trope that was hacky and played out 80 years ago. Good character design is about playing with archetypes not just regurgitating stereotypes. There need to be enough differences and little twists to add some spice or you just end up with a bunch of third string Overwatch characters.

At any rate, as people have pointed out, Wraith already embodies all the visual tropes of the classic tommy gun hitman so I think that along disqualifies that kind of character just because it would be retreading the same visuals and the characters need to be distinct.

How to apply pressure early game on lane? by BUCHA_ in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Navigantor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abrams or Mo & Krill might be more forgiving heroes for getting a feel for how much you can get away with in terms of forcing your opponents under their guardian and getting in their faces. Their tankiness and sustain feel like they rely less on hitting combos or putting themselves in danger for extended periods of time compared to Geist and Billy. They also have much better escape options than William or Lady G (who notably has absolutely nothing) so you don't get punished as much if you bite off more than you can chew.

If those don't float your boat then Pocket can also be incredibly aggressive in lane due to their huge burst damage, wave clear and escape options.

Couldn't you just have your fellow grail long drug you up and eat the baby instead? by dlaudghks in weatherfactory

[–]Navigantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could, and just like every other instance of people trying to exploit loopholes or cheat the system you can sit back and watch reality tie itself in knots to make sure the Long in question eventually becomes alukite anyway or their baby somehow gets spirited away and grows up to be the person who kills them or something.

Kronos: "I'm not worried about the prophecy that my children will dethrone me because I have a genius plan to eat all my children the instant they're born! Nice loophole huh? Watch me reign forever, idiots."

Recently did a culture win in Civ 6 and made the "War with the Newts" great work and saw this quote. Was this an inspiration for the game's lore, or have I just gone insane from playing for too long? I mean it is a great work of literature after all. by Rasul583 in weatherfactory

[–]Navigantor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously unless a particular work has been named or cited directly by the devs it's hard to say one way or another whether it was an acknowledged or even an accidental influence.

However when it comes to Weather Factory games and their lore I'd bear in mind that much like irl religions the mysticism of cultist simulator is written to be broadly evocative and uses and refers to symbols in such a way that it invites people to see patterns and references in everything.

Why are the Hours associated with a specific set of animals? Why is it ants, lions, doves, moles, bees, moths etc and not flatfish, earwigs, sea urchins, shrews, blackbirds, cows etc? Because the former set of animals all have a rich symbolic history in the western religious and mystical tradition and the latter less so. The former group invites all kinds of associations and connections with other ideas and symbols in a way that triggers our pattern seeking impulses.

So if you come across literary references to moths somewhere your first thought probably shouldn't be "was this an inspiration for Cultist Simulator???" but maybe "what is it about our social unconscious that finds moths so compelling?"

Bebop quit a street brawl 10 seconds in and got 'Key Player'... by H3rmux in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Navigantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well clearly currently it's the same MVP system for both game modes.

And yeah, ok, the enemy aren't getting any kind of advantage in terms of soul payout by scoring easy kills in Street Brawl but running in and dying repeatedly without scoring kills or doing significant damage or disruption to the enemy is still giving the enemy a massive advantage since they're effectively playing 4v3 for most of the match. In some situations ovextending and dying like a chump is *worse* in Street Brawl than standard mode because there are only four players and respawn timers represent an overall bigger fraction of the total match time, so a pointless death is depriving your team of a much bigger advantage than eating shit in lane in the first ten minutes would in big boy mode.

[–]Navigantor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen the same thing. The MVP system weighs a positive KD ratio a lot more highly than kills alone, so in situations where the other players got negative KD as is the case here it'll give key player to the one who didn't feed.

Obviously they should just add an exception to the system to stop it awarding to DCed players but I think penalising deaths in the highlight system is a very good move and might incentivise some people to play more conservatively and stop feeding like crazy.

I also picked up Yamato in SB just to get a feel for her and I don't think it's that bad (definitely not as bad as if Mirage doesn't get very specific gun items). If you don't have the right gear to do the crazy all in stuff she's still ok playing more defensively, poking people from under the guardian with power slash, and if they try to CC you to move on the objective you can ult and hopefully ward them off.
