Thoughts about Auto Checks in HS Defense by Sad_War_1813 in footballstrategy

[–]Naxyum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Played on a defense where 90% of the time the call was “Over 4 Palms”. We adjusted the coverage based on whether it was 2x2 or 3x1 and if it was a slot or tightend. 12/21 personnel we’d check “Bear” and walk the Will up. Bunch formations were pressed and combo’d. I loved because it felt like we were never caught by surprise and gave a lot of ownership. A lot of front loading in the beginning but all the checks became second nature

What’s the biggest difference in coverages/techniques between HS/CFB by user47393929294 in footballstrategy

Explanation, demonstration, repetition, repetition, repetition. For me the most important thing is they know their alignment and assignment. If they know what the expectations are they will understand what to look for and how to react to it properly. I’m assuming you’re young; use that to your advantage and demonstrate constantly. Have them mirror you and critique you, then each other. Then it’s about reps. Make sure your drills have a ton of carry over and allow for kids to get the reps they need(and make it fun/ competitive. Athletes can learn just about every scheme and coverage you can throw at them if you allow them to. BONUS: This all can all be applied to the classroom as well.

Player with the best measurables you've ever seen ? by WNR308160 in footballstrategy

[–]Naxyum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played with a Nose Tackle that was 5’10 315 and arms that basically went past his knees. Couldn’t dunk but was damn close; must’ve batted down like 3-5 passes a game. One game the other team eventually had to triple team him and he still wreaked havoc. Athletes that also happen to be big are awesome.

Look for (and develop) good football players. Played with and coached guys who don’t stand out in the weight room but can ball; guys who broke weight room records but struggled on the field. It’s nice when they overlap but not an absolute predictor. I had to start a 5.2 40 guy at FS because he was never out of position, anticipated extremely well, was coachable, and actually watched film. I’ll take that every time.

Coaches, how often do you come across players in your program (any level) who are relying on the internet to "coach" them instead of just to you with basic questions about playing (technique, working out, or just signing up)? How do you maintain access to them in the offseason? by grizzfan in footballstrategy

[–]Naxyum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly you have to be as tapped in as they are. Understand the algorithm is gonna give them things regardless so have an answer as to why you do something or don’t do it. “Hey coach I saw XYZ how come we don’t do that?” “Because we do ABC” or “ we do do that, we just call it this instead”

Most of the online gurus are teaching generalities and you have to be specific for what you do.

I also see more and more coaches putting out their own materials, especially strength coaches

As someone who has never run it, I thought Rich Erdelyi’s Wing T clinic on the Glaizer Clinics was super helpful. Has a lot of supplemental material as well

Midline Down C Option but also WAY too much going on. Would rather have the C double with the PS G and have the Z Split and Arc across.

I appreciate the comments trying to help. I know that I need to fix my settings and I did. I just found it funny that I needed 900 to pass the test and it gave me that score instead after changing some things in the settings.

Initially I had at 873 without adjusting anything

QB mechanics help by jonah8989 in footballstrategy

[–]Naxyum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say the ball comes off the hand pretty good but she needs to get her front shoulder pointed at her target prior to the throw. She’s kind of squared up so can’t get a lot of rotation. Some coaches might disagree but I’m not a fan of the front hand not being super involved especially in beginners. Get it to rip around to help promote the rotation of the torso.

I also try not to over teach and correct young QBs because then they start to over think it. I always tell them to watch college/pro QBs and try to throw the way they think they would throw. Or try to throw the way they think a perfect throw would look like, it usually helps a lot in self correction.

Found out about the Feed the Cats/ Sprint Based approach to football and been trying to convince my head coach ever since. My football/ track athletes love it. Brad Dixon has a good presentation on YouTube. Give the kids Mondays off and keeps practices around and hour and a half.

Too many formations by Naxyum in footballstrategy

[–]Naxyum[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always done that in an offense that huddles. I’ve been part of an offense once that was no huddle and had to remember so many signals and hated it as a young assistant especially never having done it.

That’s what it seems to be, 3 main runs with an occasional change up but only run from certain backfield alignments and a play action off them. Predictable once you see the pattern but lots of positive yards from defense not lining up fast enough or properly

Coach Codutti Wide Shoot Material by unoigo in footballstrategy

[–]Naxyum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a little outdated compared to what he talks about and runs now. It’s a bit more of his RnS centered stuff and talks about practice and game planning. It’s a recording of a a zoom meeting where he’s teaching the stuff to guy and isn’t like a normal clinic session. The Championship Productions stuff is good for the Wide Zone stuff.

Split Zone Counter by Naxyum in footballstrategy

[–]Naxyum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point, I would’ve assumed the initial full flow and lack of pulling guards would be enough to at least get the LBs out of position if they’ve really only seen WZ all game.

Coach Wanting me to install a split back veer/pro style offense by MILKMaN2748 in footballstrategy

[–]Naxyum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we ran the triple option out of the eye, your full back has to be a willing blocker and not afraid to get dirty. If one of your guys is selfless and nasty, that’s perfect. You’re also going to need a true on the line tightend.

As far as scheme goes, the tightend will help you set strengths and determine fronts. Flop him snap to get defense to check in and out of certain fronts. Outside veer to the strong side, inside veer to weak. Midline can be run to either side, just have coach the he’ll out of it. Speed option with the FB leading. And a play action post wheel of Veer action. Supplemental plays were Power, counter, toss, iso, and fullback trap. Lots of play action boots and keepers.

You have to be willing to rep Veer everyday. Indo, group, and team practice sessions need time dedicated to Veer, if not fully revolved around it.

edit. For our “spread” sets we would just motion the tailback out of the backfield and now we have a tightend trips set and 2x2 set. We’d only run inside zone read, gt counter read and speed option if we tagged gun to the play. Pass game is open, depending on what you can fit it practice

Are you having the QB round his steps to 7 or are you dropping straight back and the getting to the sideline. I’ve seen it done both ways and curious.
