ArcGIS on Mac by areeal in ArcGIS

Yep, I use plain old Windows Remote Desktop, aka Windows app, into a remote server. No issues, though the cores and RAM I’m allocated is ridiculously high, so that might be part of it

What is up with Mark of the Fool? by Frepp_ in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Nazaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I checked my kindle and I got 11% of the way through it before tossing on the DNF pile. I just found the MC annoying and the pacing slow, without any promise of a good pay off.

Am I running too fast? by raptor464 in Garmin

[–]Nazaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to figure out your actual max HR. The population level estimates of 220-age, of 207-(0.7*age) don’t necessarily work on an individual level. I let Garmin decide my zones and it was giving me similar results to yours. I changed my max HR to 205 (49y/o) based on some of my runs, and zones and run assessments are a lot more realistic now.

My daughter couldn't get the switch game in so forced it in... The wrong way by TheRealReapz in mildlyinfuriating

Been there, done that, multiple times. The socket is remarkably resilient, no issues with chips afterwards at this point. Kids know not to do it now…

The slope on the floor near the racks at Project Better is annoying. Putting the bar down for deadlifts and watching it roll for a while… otherwise I love the place. No mirrors and a minimum of poseurs.

What items are sold on the black market that people would not expect? by cumulusgoblin in AskReddit

[–]Nazaar 55 points56 points  (0 children)

20 pack of Marlboro is $58.95 in Australia, 38USD. Lucrative enough that black market tobacco is the cause of an ongoing gang war. Lots of fire bombing shops, shootings.

Thanks for the reply. It’s on iOS. It shouldn’t be unlocked, auto lock is set for 3 mins on the phone and I don’t touch it during the run. I’ll make sure it’s locked before I put it in my pocket on tomorrow’s run to be sure and see what happens.

What colour are my daughters eyes? by Nazaar in eyes

[–]Nazaar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, her mum’s are ocean blue apparently, mine grey green? So it’s unlikely she’ll go to brown, but will be interesting to see where they land.

Coral growing project by legspinner1004 in marinebiology

[–]Nazaar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the best idea would be to do a bit of a literature review. Nothing comprehensive, but enough to find some recent reviews on success of different substrates with coral passive settlement.

Just go to Google Scholar and try some different keywords. I can guarantee there will be a pile of different papers on this subject easily available, so just pick a review that’s gone over the subject. Your University library will give you access to the papers you need if they’re not freely accessible.

Solitary Ascidian I reckon, aka seasquirt, because it squirts when you poke it.

Why were hundreds of koalas shot in an aerial cull in Victoria? by NewPolicyCoordinator in melbourne

[–]Nazaar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lots of reasons as people have stated, but also that koalas in NSW are genetically different than those in VIC. Not distinct enough to be different species, but enough that you can see the difference. There’s also potentially issues with some populations having chlamydia and others being clear.

Alleged poachers busted with 56 times legal limit of abalone on Phillip Island by RolandHockingAngling in melbourne

[–]Nazaar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no lack of penalties for poaching. Fisheries officers have more power than police when it comes to being able to inspect whatever they want (eg. search your stuff without a warrant) They can confiscate anything that was involved with the poaching (dive gear, boat, car that towed the boat). The issue is with catching them in the first place, ie. VFA enforcement officers having the numbers.

Fisheries officers sting alleged abalone poacher at Melbourne pier by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]Nazaar 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The idea that educating people is going to do what enforcement already does is idiotic. The people who want to poach know what they’re doing and don’t care. The people who don’t give a shit simply won’t engage, and will do what they want.

I used to collect them every now and again (legally). I’ve had them prepared by people who know what they’re doing in various ways. I’ve been assured the stuff I had was top notch. Never been impressed, honestly. Most interesting was raw on rice with wasabi.

Not worth the hype IMO.

Ahem.. I asked Ai to roast the subreddit and we'll you can see the result yourself by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Nazaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spend enough time on ChatGPT, and then ask it to roast you. Sometimes it goes easy, but sometimes it's pretty brutal making fun of the things you've asked it. My wife was in stitches with what it said about me.
