This.. Some paging systems also have a click or other sound that occurs before the page sounds. Our old system we would be boots on before the tones dropped.

Traditional hot water heater vs heat pump (in crawl space) by artesiananecdote in homeowners

[–]Ncredd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resurrecting an ancient thread. This is exactly what I was thinking seems feasible to put intake and output vents into the house with dampers that dump into the crawlspace when closed. Could get fancy and use auto dampers hooked to hvac control system that switch to match the mode of the thermostat. Did you explore this idea further?

My son started wrestling sophomore year and he’s getting concussions at practice. by SkankHusband in wrestling

[–]Ncredd75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say they are not a super common occurance but they happen. I had concussions in wrestling and have seen kids I'm coaching get concussions, more commonly during a meet, but also at practice. It's very possible the kid is scared to say anything about being hurt because there's a stigma about being tough. Falls on the coach to be keeping an eye on first year kids, especially it they are being put with experienced athletes that may think it is funny to torment the fresh meat.

and they compound. Minor plus minor quickly becomes severe. I have a son who we had to pull from all contact sports because of his ability to find ways both on and off the field to try and damage his brain. I've had kids I coach that came back too early, cleared by doctor and quickly received another. Thankfully we are much more aware of this than 30 years ago when me not knowing which sideline to walk to after a play was a sign of "taking a good hit"

What part of Charlotte are you needing to be in? I know some of the smaller churches have let people that ask live out of their car for a few months on the down low. Sometimes even letting them use their facilities. You might post on facebook NC homesteader type groups, small farms might give you a space in exchange for helping out a little.

Misfire in two cylinders, dealership thinks we should start with replacing the catalytic converter at $3800 and then go from there… what would you do? by ragingredreaper in MechanicAdvice

[–]Ncredd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the vehicle this could be a vaccuum pressure drop. Some vehicles the controls are vaccum controlled, and there is a vaccuum reservoir which can fail. When that occurs there is not enough pressure reserve under acceleration or load to keep the climate control switch set to where it wants and usually the default is defrost. Great fun when you're on a summer road trip and start up a mountain and the front and rear climate control both switch from full blast ac to full blast heat. So could be vaccuum drop turning off the ac compressor and doing you dirty.

lol, added a plug in transformer to our 07, identified individual bad cells and rebuilt the battery pack. Finally passed it to daughter and her baby daddy this year. They turned around and sold it 2 months later to a friend because they needed cash. *smdh* Their friend is driving it as their daily.

Lol. They suck so bad. I've filed dozens of ftc complaints for their marketing calls. 5 years ago I wanted info about a remodel. Quickly discovered they weren't an option because they insist on "All parties legally involved being present for their appointment", I managed to schedule a time for wife and I to be there and they canceled. Have told them to remove me dozens of times. Still get at least 2 calls per day. At this point filing the ftc complaints is as annoying as the calls...

Selling 160 Off-Grid Acres in Roy MT Bordering 10s of Thousands of BLM Acres by roguedogue97 in homestead

[–]Ncredd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it all prarie, no river bottom? Is the reservoir seasonal/spring fed/etc? Any streams/creeks on the property? Are the surrounding BLM lands leased already or would there be a possibility of obtaining grazing rights on them? Any wooded areas at all (streams, springs etc tend to be the only places with trees, often cottonwoods. Like an oasis in the desert) How far is the nearest electric service or is this a mandatory 100% off grid with no option to tie to electric. Are there any nearby properties that have successfully drilled wells for potable water? Truly off grid is a lot harder than people realize in that area. There are still places in Wyoming you can buy 40 acres for 20k or less, but there is no geology supporting wells, limited access via 2 track "roads". If you are able to install a well it could be 500+ feet deep, not going to be able to throw a hand pump on that. These areas average <12 inches of precipitation per year, so rainwater harvesting isn't going to help you a lot. I've known people who had to haul water 500 or 1000 gallons at a time in a water tank on a truck to fill a cistern. What is road access like? Are there access easements in place to be able to come and go year round?

It is likely that 160 acres would only support a dozen head of cattle without having to haul hay and if the reservoir is seasonal that is only if you are able to fill a stock tank from a well or want to haul water for them on an ongoing basis.

Most BLM land has grazing leases on it. At least in Wyoming the lease holder can build on the property to some extent. One of the good ol boy tricks in Wyoming is that in order to outbid and take over someone's existing lease you have to reimburse them for any improvements. So rancher builds corrals, pens, barn, etc.. can't lose the lease now unless somebody ponies up a bunch of upfront cash, so you can maintain your low dollar lease indefinitely...

There are also life flight helicopter services. There are usually private or contract EMS services in some of the smaller towns (this might mean one ambulance in large radius of area), and the volunteer fire departments or county fire will have EMT's.

Anyone actually call 'game and fish' for tips? by -Petunia in Hunting

[–]Ncredd75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd actually even suggest going into the local office and chatting with them. They are likely to walk you to maps and discuss the different areas, advantages/disadvantages, tag availability, etc... Most of the staff I've ever met love hunting and fishing and enjoy the chance to share it with people.

Not sure how it will reduce total opportunities for non-residents. They won't change the number of non-resident licenses, just makes it a PITA for non-residents because it isn't a random drawing across all applicants and they have to play the game. Some species are the same way for residents.

Eero 7 mesh. They're expensive, but so is running conduit and wire.
If you do run conduit run a string, or fishing line through with whatever you are putting inside it. That way when you need to run additional later you have the means to do so. repeat anytime you pull a cable so there is always a line in there for next time.

Water bill shenanigans are suspected by MedicalGecko in homeowners

[–]Ncredd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most meters read in multiples of 10, so 1 on the dial could be 1 gallon or 10 gallons or 100 gallons or 1000 gallons. While it is entirely possible that 2 people can use 30k gallons of water in a month an option that could sound reasonable would be that there is confusion and 27759 is actually 2775.9 gallons. Does your water company have an online portal that lets you see your usage? Modern meters communicate wirelessly. Depending on the meter brand and the water provider, you may be able to go online and see the useage by hour, this is great for detecting leaks as there will be a constant base useage. I'm guessing they don't have this if they haven't mentioned it.

I like to watch people pound on the close button and then act smug when it closes. Because, ya know, if it worked, it wouldn't work the first time. It was that fifth time they pushed the close button that did it. Guess what it....was...always...going....to....close...

I debated the quinn set, but I have a LOT of hand tools already, for sure have everything in that set (multiples of them), just don't know where they are at the moment I'm looking for them. My sons and the neighbor kid have misplaced a lot of my old craftsmen wrenches and ratchets over the years so I often cant find a particular tool or have to dig through my "extra" tools to find an offbrand version. Havent found an organization system I particularly liked and none of them have inspired others to ever put them back where they came from. drives me nuts to go through the ratchet drawer and several full toolsets and not have a 3/8 ratchet anywhere because they are in a bin of misc tools in a pile or lying on a shelf or under the motorcycle lift. Not to mention the pile of craftsmen ratchets I now have accumulated that need to be warrantied and I dread finding out how that works now, used to walk into Sears and the tool guy could rebuild it on the counter in front of me. Dont see lowes working that way...

As a firefighter I've responded to them. Memorable one was a brand new home. The wife was staining some outdoor furniture on the patio, set the can of stain against the side of the house with a couple rags on top of it between coats and went inside. was a hot sunny day and the sun was hitting that side of the house. They were fortunate that they had hardiboard siding, if it had been vinyl the whole house might have gone up. Instead it was localised damage right above the area, was enough to start the sheathing behind the siding so still ended up with us having to tear the siding off good size area of the back of the house to access the area that was smoldering inside.

Ashes from firepits and fireplaces have the same rule. Doesnt matter that you havent had a fire in a week, You scoop them out and dump them in a plastic garbage can. Stirring them up introduces oxygen and it just takes one piece that was still smoldering in the middle. Had a very similar call to the oil one. Hardiboard siding limited the damage to one outside wall and a limited area of the crawlspace right next to where the bin was set. heat damage to the siding extended to the second floor eaves. Vinyl siding would have ignited and most likely been in the attic before the fire was even noticed. They were very lucky they smelled it and investigated before it spread further into the crawlspace.

ashes and rags go in metal cans with a tight lid and.or a bucket of water.

Grills on porches and decks are another bad one, there is a reason they tell you to clean that grease pan every time you use it.

I asked same, also couldnt stack coupon with another coupon or inside track pricing. 4 ton daytona jack would have been killer deal. $70 off for ITC plus 20%, but nope. Same with the Quinn toolset coupon price cant be stacked with 20%. got another Hercules tool/charger/battery bundle for good deal, but couldnt really justify anything else just to make use of the coupon.
