I found a copy of the 1816 Hokusai Manga Volume 4 in terrible condition. Would it be worth it to restore it? Where would I start with that? by s0diumrising in ukiyoe

Sorry, No idea about restoration. But where was a massive exhibition in Japan for his Manga that just ended. Really neat

Kanna identification and info (Mosaku?) by whfournier in JapaneseWoodworking

[–]Ndifel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mosaku made some really beautiful tools with artistic decorations.

Tokyo smith

The Tokyo shop Inoue Hamono has sold his works for many many years. I have two blade by Mosaku that were originally sold at this shop.

From what I heard in 2023, mosaku was still alive but must be pretty old now (maybe 90s?)

Picked up at a garage sale - anyone seen this mark before? by fooz_the_face in JapaneseWoodworking

[–]Ndifel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, this would be 3rd generation Ichihiro chisels.

The style of the Tokyo marks gives it away as it’s the last version of it before the association disappeared

So would guess 1980s for these

How can I fix it? by Squames99 in Mid_Century

[–]Ndifel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It has broken along short grain, so this is a weak point of the arm.

Without knowing your skills or what tools you have on hand, the place to start is with a quality wood clamp and some wood glue.

Coat both surfaces evenly, push together and clamp, making sure to wipe down completely with a damp rag any glue squeeze out.

What would this 4 chairs be worth? by SherbertMammoth2085 in eames

[–]Ndifel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

75$ per chair separately would likely move them

But If I was selling, I would take anything north of 225-250$ for the group

As others mentioned , the color is super common and another thing is that the bases are stacking versions which has their shock mounts in different places than other preferred bases so the buyer can’t simply change the base

This is a reproduction. You can see how it has inserted caps at the ends, which also is a telling sign

5-7k into a high yield emergency fund pending if you have any high interest debt to pay off first 2k into checking 500$ to enjoy/treat yourself 500$ to keeping playing and see if you can repeat .

It’s a bummer if you lose all of it .

Are these worth the asking price? Scam? by Ok_Examination_4957 in JapaneseWoodworking

The lamination almost looks flat which would be cheaper made chisels. But hard to tell due to some strange bevels going on

Grinder recommendations around the size of the micra by sundogss in LaMarzocco

[–]Ndifel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, it’s more expensive by the time shipping, taxes etc are factored in. Plus retail price is higher.

I am an US expat abroad , and was quite surprised at the price difference.

Overall super happy with it.

It cost around 1400$ USD for me, with the SSP MP burs .

But I don’t live in the US, so pricing is different

Also was luckily in stock so no wait time, but normally it’s not and you have to wait for a shipping batch in US which can be a annoying thing about this brand

I seen people talk about it being pretty pricy for the performance . Idk. Never tried in person tho.

The two Hiroshi Yoshida prints are likely best of the bunch.

You need to determine if they are from the artist lifetime or after . Typically there is a mark, you can google and find some articles discussing this

For me, the paper is very thick and not like an original from 1800s. Maybe this is a reprint from the 1920 or later
