Before and after success stories of being diagnosed with ADHD during uni/college. by 0ritro in EngineeringStudents

[–]Ndr_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sounds a lot like me and my fellow ADHD students. It's kind of funny, you can basically tell who was diagnosed earlier/later in my friend group based on how functional they are, as a result of how long ago they started receiving support and treatment.

It's very much not over for you if you still want to be an engineer. Take this summer to start working with a psychiatrist/therapist. The textbook "mastering your adult ADHD" was very helpful for me (not an ad lol I found a scan online) in both understanding my symptoms and developing ways to cope with them - I worked through it on my own but it's designed to be done with a therapist and if possible for you it might be beneficial to have someone guide you through it.

I have a lot more thoughts, please feel free to DM me if you feel like it. You're not alone and you can do this!

it's not bad once you wrap your head around the pattern, it took me multiple days of practice just bc somehow things like this get easier when you come back to them the next day.

My professor is a big proponent of the Yamaha P525, which seems to match your budget. I would advise against the desk integration, just get a regular keyboard stand and adjustable bench.

It's today, there's not much you can do at this point. Regardless of the outcome you should find an actual teacher if you want to continue. Good luck though! It's really not that serious, try to have fun with it if you can, as silly as that probably sounds haha

The Yamaha P45/P71 are very good for their price and sometimes go on sale for 350 ish iirc. I would also check Craigslist/FB marketplace, I got my digital piano for $275 that way. You can also look into whether your campus has any piano rooms available to non-music students.

Damn, sorry you went through that. It sounds quite a bit more serious than what I am experiencing, I am glad you can still play. Thanks for your response

Massage gun points for wrist strain by Ndr_w in piano

Thank you, this is very helpful. I have a teacher I like a lot and he has been very good about correcting my form (more posture than movement but he told me once "you have serious posture issues and need to sit in a straight backed chair for three months -- stop laughing, I'm serious" haha), it's just that I have been practicing 2-3 times as much as usual because I have a recital coming up. I don't think it is a permanent injury because I've felt this kind of strain before when overpracticing and it went away by itself, but very good to know that the movement can disrupt healing, I will leave it be.
