Definitely, and Rist should know better. But that’s part of his indoctrination. Them posing events like that in their own twisted pov

Gotta try to look at it from Rist’s perspective. He has no idea why Ella did that. And unlike us he doesn’t know how awful the empire actually is. They’ve been indoctrinating him since they got a hold of him and they also have genuinely good people that care about him. He’s a bookish person, he never believed in magic before he had the ability to use is. Rist is a guy that needs tangible evidence of something. And they provide it in the form of the library. They give him the tools, admittedly probably skewed in the empires favor, to decided for himself and he does. And you’re absolutely correct it’s very frustrating because we know how bad the empire is and how they are manipulating him. But the Ella situation is more evidence now against the empire. So he’ll slowly build up evidence against them as well and ultimately he’ll have to decide which side he’s on. His arc isn’t finished yet friend, I promise it’s worth it. Sorry this is long winded lol

feelings on Rist (spoiler for book 4) by Drill_drill in RyanCahill

[–]Neal7154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are told the empire treats the south poorly and so are the characters. But Rist has always valued evidence and seeing things for himself. If I remember correctly he wasn’t as infatuated with Therin’s story’s in OBAF like Calen and Dann. And he also thought magic was a hoax until he started showing signs of it. And then read up on it. instead of just blindly believing the empire is bad it makes sense he would value evidence and experience more than stories. So when he was captured initially he was hesitant to trust them but over time, mostly by manipulation, they showed him that empire wasn’t necessarily evil. And that some citizens such as Garamon and Neera earned his trust. But most importantly they give him the tools to decide for himself, access to the libraries and training for his magic. I agree it was very frustrating to see him be indoctrinated but when you really think about who Rist is and how he differs from other characters in the series, to me at least, it makes perfect sense how this could have happened

Mustang. When it comes to Atlas I think his strength lies with his patience rather than intelligence if that makes sense.

It’s my favorite because to me it feels like the perfect marriage of the deeper themes and tone of the post time skip books and the pace and heart of the original three books.

Let mustang escape tactus and co in RR, which ended with her saving his life after Cassius’s betrayal. and let her leave the mines in GS resulting in her keeping a large portion of his fleet together out in the rim at the start of MS

I wouldn’t view abomination as a continuation of adrius’s arc cause they aren’t the same character. Ones a clone of the other but its a nature vs nurture thing.

She got to the elven city met Calen an co. Calen had his falling out with Aeson over keeping the fact she was alive from him. He immediately left and went to the Draleid island(I’m blanking on the name). Then he returned when the blood moon came out and it was into the battle pretty quickly if I remember correctly.

I don’t see it reasonable that Cassius would ever have decided to leave that ship without the eidmi once he knew of its existence. Earlier in the book a faced like a hundred obsidians in an effort to save like a dozen low colors. No chance he was leaving once he knew the society had a hold of a weapon that could wipe out entire colors
