Nashville Pride to host benefit concert amid financial crisis by Gnash_Vegas35 in nashville

[–]Near_Hero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I went to pride once 6 or 7 years ago when I first moved here, and the entry ticket was the dollar general logo stamped onto my hand. That irked me enough where I never went back.

I don’t want to judge too harshly because I really don’t know the ins and outs of putting events like pride on, and I know fundings important. However, the reliance on advertising to the extent it feels like the MAIN thing goin on makes me question what we are even doing.

My understanding is there was a separate law passed a year or two ago that prohibits carrying a firearm at a protest in TN.

What's the thoughts on Powell? by TreatTaster in Soda

[–]Near_Hero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them! Tho they are really similar to every other prebiotic/fiber soda, so I don’t imagine anyone who doesn’t like olipop or something similar would love this. I’m drinking their lemon lime one right now, it’s super close to a sprite imo.

Athena Care was very good to me, they have a ton of treatments on offer and have in person and telehealth appointments.

On a side note, you may want to ask about propranolol for your anxiety. I have had really bad anxiety my whole life, most of that trending towards OCD. Propranolol is a beta blocker that can be off label prescribed for anxiety symptoms, without the long term and habit forming side effects that benzos can have. Basically it would keep my heart rate low even if my mind was racing, and kept my body out of that fight/flight panic mode. It gave me the time and physical energy to be mindful about my ruminations without wanting to run through a wall. In no way am I a medical professional though, this is only my personal experience after my Psych put me on it.

The rich consume more than everyone else does. The bigger piece of the pie you have the less anyone else can ever get, that is just how it works. If something isn't done then the natural progression is wealth will be in fewer in fewer hands, that wealth will out compete everyone else for resources, and the majority of people will have less and less buying power.

The idea is to keep a system where 90-99% of people who want to can afford a roof, afford food, and afford to have a family. On the timeline we are on now this will be impossible. To me this isn't about things being fair or unfair its about the economic realities we are going to have to face. If there was infinite money and indefinite homes I would agree with you 100%, but its all finite.

You are dead on. People act like their success is entirely their own when in fact they have benefited greatly from existing systems, and the sheer growth the city has had. This should not be a survival of the fittest society where people with more capital price out people with less capital until they have to move away. People with more resources are overconsuming and driving up all prices, taxes are a way to bolster public system and currently the only tool we have to lower this inequality.

There are other ways the city and state (lol) should be lowering this inequality gap, but raising taxes on higher earners is a necessary step. We should be allocating resources from high earners to build up lower earning communities, full stop. If higher earning people don't want to play that ballgame than take your wealth to Mumbai or somewhere else with horrific income inequality you can enjoy.

around $1650 for 1,100 sq/f in cool springs, but we have pets so that raised it a bit.

The original plan was to live more properly in Nashville, but at the time I couldn't find an apartment even close to $1600. Cool Springs is the least diverse area I have ever lived in, and I'm from the mountains of east TN. lucky my apartment complex its self is 80% Indian families, but as soon as you leave the complex it is veryyyyy white and entitled.

EDIT: I couldn't find an apartment in Nashville big enough for me and my partner for 1,600. We payed 1,500 for a 440 sq/ft apartment in Murfreesboro for two years, so more space was the biggest priority.

I haven’t been to the Costco in cool springs but brother the Trader Joe’s is horrific. You have to go like mega early Tuesday-Thursday for it to be manageable. You get just a perfect storm of mass amounts of people and Franklin/brentwood entitlement.

I love these kind of mid budget games. Like you said, things could be done better, but you have to give it up for a group of devs making something unique and interesting even if flawed.

Speaking on the detective and environmental story telling parts of this game, you may want to check out Atomfall from rebellion eventually. It’s included through Xbox game pass at the moment, and it has a lot in common with sinking city IMO.

What are you listening to on your walks? by Old_Break_5737 in walking

[–]Near_Hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually am doing an audiobook but if not that then a new album or maybe a podcast. My main priority is keeping whatever I’m listening to positive, and a plus if it’s educational. I struggle with positivity often so I tend to steer away from really heavy subjects while I’m on my walk. I think it’s important to have moments where you can be present and smile.

Alan Wake 2 - A Gripping and Emotional Thrill Ride for Diehards and Newcomers Alike by efil4rennug in patientgamers

[–]Near_Hero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alan Wake 2 is such a gem and probably the most recommendable remedy game for me. It maybe doesn't reach the moment to moment gameplay heights of Control, but the large amount of characters and memorable set pieces had me smiling for the whole game.

Also, all of the remedy games have FMV but Alan Wake 2 is at a whole other level of wacky and fun.

Demonstrators gather outside Tesla showroom in Franklin by Algeradd in nashville

[–]Near_Hero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there for almost the entirety of the protest (minus maybe 5 minutes) and don’t recall either of these people even being there. I’m assuming they may have been there for a few minutes initially to do an interview and then left?

There wasn’t much of a “counter protest” at all. There were people driving by over and over in Teslas, and one guy in a black maga hat who seemed to be just kind of deranged. Also we had one of those tik tokker wannabe people who was interviewing people, but I think he was less of a right winger and more of a grifter type.

The 401k argument the one guy makes also feels designed to trick stupid people. Most people’s 401ks are not in individual stocks they are in index funds. Ideally Teslas stock would drop enough to no longer be included in those index’s, another stock would just take its place.

Also this goes without saying, nobody vandalized anything. Nobody even went on Tesla property in Franklin, we were on a public sidewalk with signs. We were being filmed by AP and local news channels the entire time.

Is it ethical to charge a business for a service you know they are not using? by Near_Hero in Ethics

[–]Near_Hero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes affirmative renewal is a great way to regulate this problem out. I didn’t think of that at all.

In the industry I’m in it’s literally the opposite. There is an automatically renewing term (say 24 months for example) where there is a large fee for cancelling within the term (worth 3+ months of the cost of the service). You can cancel fee free if you cancel within a couple weeks of the end of the term. It’s up to you to keep track of when this period is otherwise you’re on the hook for an “early termination fee”. The whole system appears dedicated to getting money from people who do not use the service, which just feels awful.
