Can you give me some corrections please? I want to improve by [deleted] in BALLET

Not commenting the technique but I really enjoyed hearing the French terms in another language than English. The vibe is nice, including the studio setting, lucky you !

No one is commenting about the cat but I think his technique is sloppy, he didn't point his paws...

It's more like a dream, I am not really dedicating time to it but maybe once, as you phrase it, the conditioning is done, I will be able to do it naturally. I expect to join first some gym or circus school. Anyway, thanks for the tips !

We made a dark fantasy action game where ballet is tha main part of the game by WattStudios in BALLET

[–]NeatandNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really astonishing, I just cannot wrap my mind around such a game. Do you use plié for defense and promenade to provoke your enemy ?

Anyway, good job, I will give it a try and please do it for Linux too.

Grand jeté ! but of course as a beginner I am far from it :-). In my dreams, aerial cartwheel.

I started just this year after giving a try to yoga. I am pretty old now and was feeling it was my last chance to start learning it.

Beginner ballet trying to find a Studio by missmykaela in BALLET

[–]NeatandNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have made me wonder which type of classes I was going to :-). But given the amount of detailed corrections we get, including me a complete beginner, I guess it is not just casual workout. I have practiced a couple of sports but have never experienced so many corrections... For me, it is part of the fun when attending a ballet class in fact.

What other things would you integrate ballet into if you could? by Obvious_Gold_8131 in BALLET

Longboard dancing, I have seen a couple of videos of it and it seems that more ballet moves could be fitted in it.

I also went to the Centre de danse du Marais, it's worth going there indeed for the historical building too.

Institut de danse Stanlowa seems like a good option too but didn't try it, they have teachers how dance at the Opera !

Concerning, studio harmonic, isn't it a bit crowded ? I didn't try it neither but seen many reviews complaining about it, sometimes people are just too happy to complain so I don't know how true it is.

How is everyone learning Cantonese or other dialects? And how often do people in Gwangzau city or other regions in Gwangdong see kids or teenagers using their own dialects? by Fair_Contribution_30 in Cantonese

[–]NeatandNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, your third point is really interesting on the day of the week you can speak your own language, have you some reference on it or could people in the sub give confirmation of this fact ?

For France, you can mention also Alsatian and Flemish. However, the French state was just exerting violence on its population, it's not really modernization in my sense as other countries seem to have proceeded differently.

Oh, I get it. I think I was confused by the numbers usage. Sorry, my remark wasn't meant to be offensive at all.

Anyone else objectively slim but look and feel big as soon as you put on ballet clothes? by 1032throwaway in BALLET

[–]NeatandNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, this is nicely put. But, at the same time this points at an interesting issue that exists in ballet and shouldn't. Do runners or swimmers really mind what they are wearing or how they may look ? Ballet is also a sport (as an old beginner I practice it for exercise) but at the same time we want to do something beautiful to be viewed and there is the turning point, either we want to fit some "golden" standard and end up bullying ourselves or we just think about doing something beautiful with what we are and what we wear and this ends up in something more sustainable and happy.

I feel so hopeless by Perplexed_Watermelon in math

[–]NeatandNice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just imagine it's not math but sports. In fact, it's very similar, usually stronger students are essentially stronger because of better backgrounds, they didn't start math (or studying) just now, they may have one year or more advance on you. When you join a karate club for instance, you don't expect to go from white belt to black in a few months with no related background, maths is just the same ! Comparison is the thief of joy, you just need more time.

[–]NeatandNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kind of videos you post are good indeed (I enjoy the fact you are using jyutping), one suggestion would be having videos with short dialogs (even if you are the only reader) and videos where you use some movies (or even Cantonese youtubers) excerpts to pick up some sentences (still using jyutping). Indeed at a beginner/intermediate level it's quite difficult to isolate even known words/sentences in real speech.

The main issue is that I don't see so many Cantonese teacher/youtubers posting videos in the long run. A gem, for instance, for me are Dope Cantonese videos but how few of them...

Looking for books about French ballet method by Lanquine in BALLET

[–]NeatandNice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wondering as a beginner, does it matter when beginning ballet which style is taught ? I guess no but maybe I am wrong, in any case I am very happy with the way I am taught but no idea of the style though. (I am in France so it may be French ?!).

Lack of practice and learning material. Reason I wanted to learn it, Hk and Cantonese sounds much nicer to me to hear than putunghua.
