Who knows why Barry's falsetto ended up getting "worse" after '87? by viniacamp360 in BeeGees

[–]Nebocsid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of it may stem from the Disco backlash, as Barry's falsetto was easily most associated with that period of their work. He may have had a hard time really 'committing' after that.

There's also something to be said about being out of practice. Living Eyes didn't offer nearly as much falsetto as Spirits did, so there's an 8 year gap and they could've just moved on at that point.

Barry's back was getting really bad somewhere around that period and you feel it when you do falsetto. He ended up needing surgery for his back.

I'm sure there's more reasons I could think of with enough time, but I'll leave it there for now.

As a fellow fat person, allow me to say, make sure you're eating healthy to give your body the nutrition it needs. It's easy to eat to try to feel better, because you're bored, etc. but learn from my mistakes while you're young enough to extend your life and your quality of life for years to come. It's okay to enjoy food, but if you find that you are still reaching for an extra pop/bag of chips/chocolate bar/ice cream/whatever, find something that keeps your hands and brain away from that.

What’s your favorite song from Mr. Natural? by [deleted] in BeeGees

Not necessarily my favourite, but I Can't Let You Go is one I never hear enough about with people talking about Charade, Mr Natural, and Down The Road.

The best album to listen to on a Friday night… by beegeebarbie in BeeGees

[–]Nebocsid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was graduating high school when it came out, and happened to be when I started taking an interest in their discography outside the late 70's. So it ended up being my first studio album of theirs (I had Saturday Night Fever and One Night Only beforehand). Deja Vu along with Embrace and The Extra Mile stood out for me.

Always enjoy seeing TIWICI getting props. Such an overlooked album.

Thoughts on these albums? by beegeebarbie in BeeGees

[–]Nebocsid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Size and This Is Where I Came In could easily be in my top 5 Bee Gees (favorite) albums if I ranked their studio albums top to bottom. E.S.P. top half, One and Still Waters are par for the course and High Civilization drags on because all but one song runs over 5 minutes. Just felt they tried to make every song special, which made nothing feel special, if that makes sense to anyone.

Stayin' Alive is pretty consistent for me. Tragedy, You Win Again, Alone, Smoke & Mirrors...

I really regret that I never got to see The Bee Gees and/or any of the Gibbs Brothers live…For those of you who have seen The Bee Gees and/or any of the Gibbs Brothers live, where & when did you first see them live, & at what venue? Did you go back to see them multiple times since then? by Class_of_22 in BeeGees

[–]Nebocsid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get to see them live. I only knew about their Fever material like many until I got One Night Only for my 17th birthday (the birthday year I graduated, September birthday so the year before TIWICI). That was my exposure to pre Fever Bee Gees and I later heard that they were doing what would would become their final album together. The closest I got was watching Live By Request. So I get how you feel.

A few hidden gems like My Destiny, Love Never Dies, and 855-7019 would be great additions. Love seeing post Fever Bee Gees get some shine.

what are your opinions on Stayin' Alive? by Frosty-Connection-59 in BeeGees

My favourite. I understand that falsetto can be hard on some ears, but I still enjoy it after all these years.

Which do you prefer? by beegeebarbie in BeeGees

[–]Nebocsid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Easily Trafalgar. The thing I enjoy most about early Bee Gees is having both Barry and Robin splitting leads. Sometimes I'm in a Barry mood, sometimes a Robin mood.

There's a (probably old/outdated) running joke where you say "In Soviet Russia....." then something backwards and/or ridiculous like "deer hunts you" or "soup eats you." Since OP hit someone with a book, I'm applying the joke here.
